Looking at the SDE the mFireMode0.effectiveRange = 11,000.0 and the mFireMode0.absoluteRange = 25,000.0 for the wpn_laserrifle_am_std.
Does anyone know what units they're in?

I just uploaded a CSV of the laser rifle data on Google Drive. You should be able to open it in Excel or any other spreadsheet app.

So, the million-dollar question is, will this be enough range to get the job done. I would have liked the effective to be more like 120-130ish personally. I'm willing to wait-and-see though.

As for the optimal range, I didn't find anything. My SQL-fu isn't that great , so maybe it's hidden in another table somewhere that I didn't find/notice. In all likelihood that stuff is hard-coded into the game because that weapon has such unique behavior that creating attributes (rows in the database) that would be blank for every-other weapon would be pretty wasteful.
I don't want a close-range buff to be honest. I like it having a long range niche that keeps it from being OP or the FOTM.
@John Demonsbane: As for the drop off to absolute range, I'm sure it's rather abrupt (like it is now when something gets out of your effective range), unless they made an exception for this weapon we haven't heard about. As a reference, the RR has the same absolute range.
