A lot of the percentages go un noticed by me I mean , 1 and 2 percent every level doesn't change much. Only in proto does things seem to actually work anyway.

I have all core skills at level 5, and I need them to fit my Minnie ADV scout with some of the complex modules. It also allows me to vary the fits for different situations. What you said might be accurate for proto scout, but certainly not ADV. |

I finished dropsuit shield upgrades about 70% of my way through training the upgrades tree. When you have your weapons, suits and gear where you want them then that extra 10 HP doesn't hurt. Training skills and fitting equipment in New Eden has always been about small advancements. They all add up in the end to make you stronger than the other guy.
I no longer reply to rookie threads where people are asking for skill training plans. Each person's style and preferences are different enough the best I can say is core skills matter but level them up as you work on everything else. Many of the beta veterans are either done with or close to finishing the upgrades tree simply because we can and makes everything we use just that much better.

Well, let's see. Core upgrades give you:
30% more CPU 30% more PG 5% more Speed / Stamina 25% more Shields 25% more Armor 25% faster Hacking Speed
To be clear: These are bonuses that apply for EVERY suit without having to fit any modules. Not maxing that out is just stupid. It can really give you the little edge you need in 1 on 1 fights. Not to mention that more CPU and more PG means you can fit more and better modules / weapons.

Nice way to show the benefits.
When I finally finished off Engineering 5 I went through all my fittings and was able to upgrade at least one module from advanced to prototype. CPU on Minmatar suits is so tight that I've been working on the weapon operation skills that reduce CPU usage just to make everything fit. Hacking to 5 can make the difference in getting in that hack before being killed or dying before you finish.
It's all about the small percentages.

I got hacking to 5 just because of how many times I said "JUST 1 MORE FREAKING TICK!"
Also, Gallente have the same problem. Just with PG, so I had to get my optimaztion skills for most of my weapons.

Don't forget that Nanocircuitry actually reduces CPU needed for Nanohives. Don't know if the same applies to other equipment skills. And skilling explosives reduces CPU needed for grenades. Also a good way to stuff more into your suit.

I can see not maxing cores for a bit, but theres really no reason to not get at least 3 or 4. 5 is a bit pricey for some and the advantage is minimal. But getting at least 3 if not 4 for all cores should be a priority since those skills are easily the best bang for your SP buck. |

The only skills I would deem a necessity to level 5 are the electronics and engineering (pg & CPU) skills. They really make the difference when fitting your suit. Letting you run cheap fits with better gear, i.e., using advanced suits with proto shields/armor will cost much less than proto suits and yeild the same results.
The other two skills that you should level 5 are your light weapon operation/sidearm operation/heavy weapon operation and biotics skill. The first will max your CPU output for your weapon of choice which helps with suit fittings and the second will let you move around with more freedom on the field.
All other skills you need only train to unlock the modules you want to use but go no further. Shield upgrades to 5... Lol armor upgrades to 5... Lol you'll get something like 40hp for shields or for armor on a scout/logi/assault suit at level 5... That means you can sustain one more bullet from a rail rifle before you die. Totally not worth the sink. I would only train then enough to unlock the armor plate skill and shield extender skill and then leave it at that.
Maybe others will agree with me, perhaps there is another argument with respect to the sp/skill reward tradeoff.

The way it works is that the core skills are subject to the law of diminishing returns. They definitely give you the most bang for the buck at lower levels but ad they get more expensive other items, such as weapons and suits give you more value, but these too have diminishing returns. The art and science is balancing the value with your playstyle.
Because, that's why.
