I play on the pub servers with an Advanced Minmatar suit but want to drop some SP into a prototype logi suit in case I want to play PC with a corp. Since I've only played on the pubs and with the 1.8 respec in mind, I was hoping to get some feedback on which racial suit to go with:
- Is the Gallente's built-in armor self-repair bonus worth it with a proto suit? I will really miss having that bonus with the Minmatar suit (which offers the best balance and number of high, low and equipment slots at the advanced level). Since proto suits have higher armor levels and the Gallente's bonus is only going to be stuck at 2HP/sec, is that really relevant during PC play?
- Is the Caldari nanite/supply bonus really a game changer if CCP is nerfing the nanohives? I'm not sure how resupply works in coordinated team play. In the pubs, I'll just run around and follow groups of people, randomly resupplying and repairing people if I see a need. But usually only have a K-2 nanohive and can only drop two - when I'm out, I take off and find the nearest supply depot to restock. Not sure if that's an option if I have teammates that I need to stick with.
- There was a comment that in PC, uplinks are everything but is the Amarr bonus enough to offset the lack of additional high and equipment slots at the proto level?
- Is the AR still an effective weapon for a loggie? I'm kinda choked because I didn't know there were actual range tables available for weapons...I heard about them but the in-game weapon descriptions don't have the optimal/effective/max ranges and ended up dumping 1 million SP into them. Didn't realize that what I thought was harassing / supporting fire at range was actually pointless - bullets didn't reach what I was trying to hit. I though the AR would be a good bread-and-butter weapon but didn't realize that it's range was so short compared to a scrambler rifle or rail rifle.
- Do I need to be able to run full proto suits/gear/weapons to be competitive in PC? Even if I got a 1 million SP bonus from the clone contest, I'm still about 1.2 million SP away from just upgrading the suit alone. I'm still running advanced equpment, modules and weapons. Note that I'm only a casual player, I can't go crazy and commit full-time to this game. (I was kinda frustrated with it and stopped playing it for a few months because it was so buggy before).
Thanks, any feedback is appreciated. |

Amarr would probably be best in PC due to uplink bonuses and a sidearm... and proto is essential so you can drop the best links with max bonus...

being a beta vet and have played in countless pc's since PC dropped my best suggestion for any new player is to not even think about playing PC. if you wanted to be an assault player, you could be competitive with around 8mill sp. but a logi will be twice that depending on your skill you might make due with 12-14mill sp.
your equip will need to be proto level or they will be very ineffective, scanners-most people run complex damps and aree under adv scans. no point in running a repper unles its proto. and if your not running proto uplinks then your team will take too long to spawn.
with 1.8 we will have to see what works well. personally I end up following heavies with a core focused repair tool so I might go minmatar. also use uplinks so might get an amarr suit as well.
something you need to know about pc is that it is time consuming. and often times frustrating. by time consuming I mean you can spend sometimes up to 14 hours a day playing a pc match every 30 minutes. I did that 3 days in a row during the OH/AE war 3 months ago. and since then ive played 2-4 hours a day fighting mostly AE. today I spent around 5 hours playing Anceint Exiles. and NF.
new players need to remember that the squads of the top corps that red line you in pub matchs are the same guys you will be facing in pc. and the skill level they play at during pc raises ten fold.
I reject you reality and substitute my own.

In general, armor repair is not a particularly valuable module in PC. Deaths come quick against the best players, and pushing and taking points are generally more important than deaths and 2hp/s is a negligibly small amount.

Not sure if that's an option if I have teammates that I need to stick with. Nanohives tend to be a bit less useful in PCs. Outside rooftop camping, simply because it's less common to run out of ammo before dying. Healing hives can be useful.

RR is probably 2nd. AR is a distant third.

Unless you are wildly skilled, yes, you'll need a proto suit to be competitive.

I love my proto minnie and it was my PC char. After the 1.8 drop, I intend to get both Proto Amarr and Proto Min.
Nanohives are negligible. They are only great when you have a specialized position held down by a sniper/forger, but otherwise, on the map they are easily destroyed by grenade spam. Even today with the greater ammo, I find more of my hives get destroyed than they do used up due to the low ttk. That may or may not change but in my opinion, uplinks are where it will be. For PC, its essential to get more boots on the ground faster than they can.
Also, because spawn points will always be faster than uplinks (except for Amarr) it will be essential to keep your peeps alive and the spawn point in your hands. Out Cloning is actually fairly common in the PC's I play, so having that rep tool and injector is important as well.
Choose carefully, but you can't go wrong with either.
That being said, as a 100% support logi since beta, you shouldn't consider doing PC as a logi until you have at least 15 mil sp. I find that is where you really become competitive in the support logi world.

Thanks for the feedback. I have about 12 million SP but a good portion is not dedicated to logi skills or the right weapon for PC (oh well, so much for the 1 million in AR rifles...).
I just found out about the Learning Coalition...even though I've had a character for a year, it's mostly me earning passive SP or piddling around in public matches, without any real team play. I'll prolly respec into the Amarr logi suit and then learn the ropes through the Learning Coalition for PC play, if I can get in.
Thanks everyone! |

master, I highly recommend you read this: https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=108259&find=unread
Its a great post and in my support logi career, I wish I had seen it much earlier. it going to really streamline your process of what to put your skills into. The author is going to be updating it with the upcoming 1.8 patch so I would just hoard all your sp for the meantime, including the refund and focus on any missing skills you might need to be a good logi. Most of that includes core skills not dependent on suits. Give it a shot and if you have any other questions, I'm happy to help answer them!

CRAP! I linked you the wrong thing, master. This is the link I meant to point you to. While I promote the LCC, a lot, this forum is specific to all your logistics needs.

Hey, thanks again. I vaguely remember reading that a long time ago, it was a good read again. Wish I had the SP to spend on all four racial drop suits but I think I'll be going with Amarr this time (at least to start). |

In my opinion, that's your best bet. In the long run, more boots on the ground is going to be the winner here. So I also suggest you go Amarr. I'm lucky enough to be able to afford both proto amarr and min logi, which I feel are the top 2 important ones out of the gate. Still feel it is ******** to make it variable per suit tho. Wish I could get a skill tree proficiency for each EQ instead...
