The Byzantine Empire asks the Pope to call a crusade on the Saracens to relieve pressure on their borders.
Pope agrees and gets multiple Catholic nations to fight for the holy land!
Byzantium is overjoyed now that they dont have to do everything themselves.
Crusaders realize "Hey, Constantinople is full of gold and stuff".
*Crusader camp outside of Constantinople*
Now Byzantium have their capital under siege and numerous Saracens attacking their empire.
Help turns into a sudden loss of your Capital and Byzantium scrambles to rebuild before they're done in.
Does this help?

Was NF contracted to fight vs RA in these past few weeks or did NF fight RA just to increase their stock of Districts? More history! More detail!
Byzantium essentially gave the Crusaders a contract of a 150,000 silver marks to help them against the Seljuks!
After planning was made the Crusader commander who was from Venice asked for the payment in order for assisstance.
Alexios refused to pay unless they were making considerable progress in the Holy Lands.
Venice wasn't happy since they organized the whole crusade only to get paid when blood was shed.
Boniface (Venetian Commander) said "Fine but were taking your city since you haven't paid what you owed".
Byzantium has 15,000 troops in their city when the crusaders siege the city with more than 40,000 and a fleet.
Boniface has meetings with the Seljuks and they insist on him sacking Constantinople while they are occupied.

The Byzantine Empire = FA/Tso's
Seljuks = AE/Renegade
Crusaders = NF

I see It's all rather fitting isn't it? The Byzantine Empire = FA/Tso's Seljuks = AE/Renegade Crusaders = NF True, I;m not fond of any of those groups though I could make it much more relevant to the current situation and it would make so much sense that I would cry on how historically relevant current In-game events are to actual history. But I'm pretty sure people don't favor history lessons so I guess I shouldnt...

Quick rundown of these 3 factions!
Crusaders - People who fight for the glory of God (and wealth....mostly wealth). Consist of people varying from peasants to nobles. Fields extremely disciplined knights such as the Knights Templar and Knights Hospitaller. Relation to NF? These guys were the general guys you don't want to deal with since they are so dang dedicated on finishing what they start (sometimes). Example? Fall and massacre of Jerusalem. Establishment of Kingdoms in the Middle East in order to KEEP a foothold in the Holy Lands! 4 major crusades with 3 minor ones!
The Seljuk Sultanate - THE most powerful Islamic state in the Middle East only rivaled economically by the Fatimid Caliphate (Egypt). Were pretty much the "Boss" of the Middle East (Until the Mongols come) Relation to AE/Renegade? Just the big guys of the area, strong economically and even stronger militarily. Started off scattered and without much purpose till a great leader changes all of that. Wanna expand Islamic influence into Europe but there is only 1 thing in their way...
The Byzantine Empire - A prosperous empire but has been withered down by numerous attacks by the Saracens of the East (Seljuks). Is the only thing from preventing the Seljuks expanding their influence into Europe. Has been fighting a rather costly war but is actually gaining ground back from the Seljuks since the Principality of Antioch (Crusaders) have been rather hard to remove by the Seljuks. 4th crusade happens and Byzantium is now sandwitched between 2 "superpowers". Relation to FA? Rather the only thing preventing AE/Renegade completely dominating PC and is providing a fight even with numerous battles. But with the fairly recent 4th crusade "diversion", the Capital of Byzantium has been lost and the Seljuks rejoice as it makes it so much easier to fight the now spread out forces of Byzantium.
But if history and game events are too follow, Constantinople is reclaimed and the Seljuks fall to another more powerful force!
While the Crusaders are just lol'ing around Europe and the Middle East.

The Byzantine Empire = FA/Tso's
Seljuks = AE/Renegade
Crusaders = NF
with 1 slight difference.... NF were never 'offered' anything. no contract, no nothing, aside from mutual feelings toward a target.
on top of that these 'mutual' feelings got even more strained when our so-called 'friends' try to implement a business model of their own directly undercutting that of our own. look at it from the othdr side of the fence before commenting.
after a very long time, i convinced myself to work with zatara and fa to accomplish a common goal. and at every turn we encountered resistance. arguing over fees, not coordinating (i tip my hat to both ken and himiko. we did some great work together, but the other variables are what made it all a taxing challenge daily), then directly lowballing our own district selling (did you guys ever sell a single district?)
bottom line NF are mercs. our loyalty is paid for by whomever, typically 20 minutes at a time, but in some cases longer terms apply.
and tso never paid for anything. not saying they should have, just making sure everyone is clear on that tidbit of info ;)
Well the Crusaders and Byzantium did have a common interest with eachother. Both wanted to stop the ever growing expansion of the Islamic States but the Crusaders sought an opportunity and took it since Byzantium was a rather bothersome trade partner since they controlled what go's in and comes out of the Black Sea. Byzantium always took advantage of that and charged everyone who passed. Venice didn't like that since they were the other Economical superpower of that time so they decided to relinquish it from an already struggling Empire.
There was some dealings though with the seljuks on the capture of Constantinople and they would "leave" the Crusaders in the Holy Lands alone. Mutual benefits I presume. You help us we leave you a wealthy city and no further conflicts with your territory.

Ill think of some other relevant history lessons in future game events.
