I had a thread last week about Guerilla Warfare and the applying of some of the tactics used IRL to the game. Got into a few interesting discussions about strategies and tactics and whether or not they were viable.
Honestly, this was one of the biggest reasons I came into Dust. I believe you could search for one of my very first posts/threads and you can read how I talked about what we kind of strategies and tactics we could be running on the field. I knew that if EVE had grand scale battles and highly strategic and tactical planning and maneuvers, we could do the same. I might not be running PC(or be able to game right now, for that matter) but I at least like discussing FCing and SLing as well as overall strategic concepts. I mean, I even made a playbook for Foxhound Corporation back when I first took the cold metal seat.
So my question is, why don't we talk about Tactics and Strategies much?

I'll give you my thoughts then. In a word, a Consoles, plus the fact that this is still a lobby shooter. I've been a console player for a few years, but my first 'tour of duty' in online gaming was in RTS. C&C, Starcraft, then Homeworld. It seems like half of the internet was Clan Websites back then, and most of the game took place there in the form of tactics and strategy.
I was hoping to get some of that back with Dust, because it doesn't exist in the FPS I came from and I didn't want to invest in a rig to get back into Starcraft when 2 came out.
Most of the console players I've come across in Dust don't spend much time on the actual internet. Most are only able to process what is going on right in front of them and have little to no awareness of the bigger picture and no interest in seeing it. Trying to get them to read, understand, and contribute to any form of over arching tactic or strategy is mind numbingly impossible. I spent a year with the same corp until frustration got the better of me and decided to move on to see if there was a group elsewhere that liked to play this game the way I hope it's meant to be played.
Like you I spent time laying to text tactics, editing map images with way/rally point names, opening moves on maps, flow concepts for each map etc, etc, etc. I even got frustrated with the **** usability of my old corps enjin website and built my own "training" site that was more mobile friendly to try and lay down things I mentioned above along with com discipline, group training evolution, and what not. No traffic, no interest.
I have faith that this game will get there, and that I'll find more players who think like I do. If you're truly one of them, get in touch with me and we can share notes. Even though I'm no longer in the Corp I built that training site for, I still own it and designed it for this type of co ordination. If you and any others want to talk tactics, maybe we can do it there outside of our respective corporation websites or here.

Decent threads have regularly died pretty quick, that has been the case since I used to post on an Alt in Closed Beta. The old Feedback and Suggestions used to have a more academic nature but we lost it to people doing political-nerfing sometime last year.
Listen to everyone who says there are no tactics. We are playing a second rate twitch shooter. The biggest innovation of 2013 was uplink spam. I call that a gimmick.
Wait out the rest of March and be ready for a brand new game on the infantry level. The damage and support equipment changes were all necessary to push Dust 514 towards a Tactical Shooter. Now if only they could communicate what is they want with vehicles and how their vision for an integrated battlefield.

Infrared technology allows us to see through things and I wouldn't be surprised if there were some military tech that does much more than FLIR.
Tactics aren't discussed because they are corporate doctrine, OPsec stuff. Tactics aren't used because lots of players just do pubs and don't even squad up and when they do they aren't on coms and if they are they don't talk much (I know because I don't talk much in squads). Many FPS players are solo or don't plan on playing long enough because "this game sux, lol" or they get protostomped by seasoned professionals whom have put the time into the game or have superior gear and knowledge of the game.
Players want to win out of the box and many gamers, especially FPSers can't handle not being the best on day one. Traditional FPS games allow players to create game modes that only allow certain things in the game, private servers that allows them to cheat easier and matchmaking that places them in matches against similar KDR because there isn't much more to judge them by because all there really is to do is run, shoot, die and repeat.
DUST isn't traditional and it doesn't cater well to the gimme now crowd or the lone wolf. This isn't the game for solo players, I am not saying that they can't do well or don't have a place but when placed against a well organized team that know each other they don't sand much of a chance in most situations. Other FPS games have trained us to be "pick-up-and-play" gamers when DUST says "pick me up and stay with me for a while and get in a squad because it is going to be a very tough road if you go it alone" and that isn't easy for some gamers to understand.

Same here but, it is useless. This game is just to much of a silly ballet on a merry go round. Too many kids that have zero sense of tactics beyond the few exploits in mechanics that allows for an easy win. This will happen when we only have a few maps that can be learned an memorized through repetition.
Maybe this new TTK will tone the bunny hopping game down in some way. I'd prefer forcing more realistic movement for all except the scout suit so we can get more tactical, cautious, deliberate movement rather than everybody just run around in a big mess around and around the map and shoot.

I'd like that. I'll probably make more threads about strategies and tactics since I was actually thinking about organizing another document/play book. You could always message me on my Gmail for video games and stuff, [email protected]. Maybe in the future we could actually get a circle of like-minded folks like you hope for.
