When 1.8 drops, how will these guys fare against the other races? What will they excel at and where will their general strengths lie? As of now, the Minmatar Basic Medium and Assault really have no place in competitive play. They can be easily outdone by everything else. The only redeeming quality they have lies within the Minmatar Logistic's hacking bonus, but even that is not much.
TTK is going to be increased and I'm crossing all fingers in hopes of speed tanking making a comeback, and if it does, I'm hoping that the Minmatar benefit the most from it. It's a bit disheartening to know that the majority of the other races' suits can be just as fast with a KinCat whilst having more eHP.
Anyway, what are your thoughts? |

They need to tone down the AA a little for speed tanking to work. Also, knicats do not affect strafe speed. The nerf to dmg mods will actually make the minmitar assault suck much more because now it is pretty much 5 highs of shields which really eats up the PG and CPU...back in the day speed tanking meant something, you know when heavies turned slower...which if they brought back would even things out me thinks, all the tanked logis and such would think twice if their turn speed was hurt with all the armor. |

Well, the Assault will have a 1.05 hacking multiplier (not much, but, its something), the Logi will have a 1.2 (so, .05 less than fully specced now, but also only .05 faster than all the other Logis) while the Scout will sit at a 1.1, but with skills, will surpass a no codebreaker current Logi.
Speed tanking, I hope it comes back, the whole speed thing doesn't mean much on the Assault when it has less Low slots than every other race, meaning they can do whatever they want and still match the Minmatar Speed wise.
The Scout getting and extra equipment and an extra low shall be fun though.
Only time will tell, or theorycrafters, those b*stards know the future.

The sloth mechanic is having an even bigger effect than the AA, imo.
I agrre with you on the AA but in terms of how clinky/kinetic the game feels, the sloth effect is having a much bigger impact. First get rid of that and then adjust AA is wha seems to make the most sense.

They laughed at Minmatar suits being UP, I laughed as their clone body burned away.
These bonuses are a start in the much needed love that Minmatar suits need. I still think that all Minmatar suits should have their base speeds increased by 1 m/s instead of the pathetic .3 m/s or whatever it is we have now. The stamina regen bous is gonna help out a bit because even though we have less total stamina than the Amarr scout (Kind of a silly bonus, stam and stam regen), we will regen it faster (As we should) to allow us to actually do some more hit and run tactics.
I can't wait for my hacker scout. Gonna use the assault when I get pissed off and just want to dump huge amounts of ammo at the enemy from my CR and SMG. For being "The most adaptable race" the assault has the least versatility of all the assault suits due to its slot layout and passive shield regen bonuses. (Should be 4 high, 3 low, higher shield regen than Caldari, less total shields. Caldari being the master shield tankers should have 5 high, 2 low, more shield tank, lower regen) Commando is going to be a great damage dealer with its bonuses. Logi is going to be unrivaled at its ability to keep players repped. Heavy will be....meh (The slight speed increase isn't enough to offset the fact that they have the worst resistances, lowest EHP and least amount of passive bonuses)

Hacking bonus was moved to the minja. Ccp needs to get it together and swap min and calshield recharge delays.
WTF DOES THE "HIT AND RUN" RACE HAVE A SLOWER RECHARGE THAN THE BUFFER RACE.

The assault suit and commando bonuses are kind of the wrong way around; with all that extra ammo the assault will be a solid suppressor, whilst the commando damage bonus stacking with the mass driver buff is going to make that thing a total beast when assaulting point. Both entirely viable though, which is nice.

Actually my post was in reference to the stamina recharge buff that all Minmatar suits seem to be getting (full stamina in four seconds or less). |

The point of Minmatar is like you are saying. You don't stick around to defend objectives. You assault fast. You eliminate the ability to counterattack by killing equipment. You decimate the resistance, then you leave and move on to the next point, ideally intercepting the next wave of attack in open ground rather than in a fortified area. You leave behind your remote mines, proximity mines, and maybe a scout to defend against a solo incoming counter-hack.
As you manuever to the next objective across open terrain, you can use your quad's speed, and the stand-off capability of your mass driver to harrass anyone you see as you approach the next point until you find a weak spot. Your weakness on open ground will be RRs, TAC ARs, and Scramblers Rifles, but you should have the speed to selectively pick your battles against these weapons. |

Speed tanning in a fps with auto aim is dumb. Only works on pc where the dev doesn't hold your hand. Min needs shield recharge delays that are lower than Cal.

Heavies? I'm pretty sure that the other heavies will eat a min heavy or commando alive in 1v1 engagements.
Also, I'm still dissatisfied with the rep tool bonus of minlogis. C'mon CCP, why the heck do you want the squishiest logi to be the primary medic!? |

I agree to a degree.....the heavy should be able to effectively target enemies in cqc but I wouldn't mind a decrease in turn speed.....as long as speed tanking suits were the only ones who could run circles around heavies I'm OK with it

Caldari isn't just a shield buffer race, they are the only REAL shield race. Minmatar, at least in EvE, are proficient in shield and armor tanking. Minmatar are suppose to be the flexible, speed oriented race. They can fill just about any role, and can do so with flexibility. What their suits should reflect is basically some of the best overall stats, the highest base speeds, and the lowest EHP. What they should be the best at, is filling two roles at once, which would make them unique and give them superior flexibility over different situations.

I don't think we should look at tank so much when comparing the MN to other races. We should look at the assault bonuses that benefit MN weapons the most. All weapons they have empty their mags really fast and the bonus negates that weakness.
I don't think of speed as a form of a tank, but more of a tactical advantage. It means that a MN suit will flank faster than any other. When your squad is being suppressed, every second it takes you to flank counts. This is what its strength is. MN are supposed to be high speed low drag glass cannons...too bad dmods got nerfed. They're the tankiest scouts, not weakest assaults. Like how the amarr scout is the lightest assault, not the slowest scout.

Avoid Minmatar because they'll never be "great" at shield tanking, armor tanking, assaulting, etc. If you want to be competitive, your only hope is to specialize by speccing into Amarr, Gallente, or Caldari frames. |

Speed matters a bit too in most ranges. One thing I'm thinking is that accuracy and RoF will matter more than straight DPS when you are shooting at a moving/quick target. The more bullets you are spraying, the better chance you will have to hit your moving target. I think this is the point of the assault variant weapons. They trade DPS for the added advantage of putting more shots on target. |
