Hello, it is time for yet another giveaway \o/
This time it serves a certain agenda though, as I am looking for quality writers / video producers to work with in the future. So here is the deal:
I want you to write an article or make a video about a DUST 514 related topic. The article should be ~1000 words long, which is roughly how much you can fit in one post. Videos should be 15 minutes long at max. You can talk and write about whatever you want, be it game design, game mechanics, the best drop uplink locations, the community and the developers, weapons, suits, fits, visuals, numbers, future, past and what not!
I am not looking for angry rants, finger pointing or daydreaming. This doesn't mean you need to be super serious, you are more than welcome to share funny stuff you find noteworthy, but in general your submissions should be backed up by reason, facts and logic. If you don't know what I mean by that you should definitely check out Judge Rhadamanthus videos for the current benchmark. Even if you don't agree with all his points you know where he is coming from. All of the above are just non binding guidelines, but if in doubt you can always ask The following is binding though
Original content produced for this giveaway only!
Post your submission here AND send them to ndwemor [at] gmail [dot] com (you can also attach pictures there).
The winner article / video will receive 100 million ISK and as usual you can also expect other goodies, but the primary purpose of this event is to find people who would like to do this "for a living" by being compensated with ISK
Please feel free to discuss, ask questions and give feedback or let me know if I forgot something.
Thank you!

Event FAQs, you should make them.
On topic, I may take a stab at the writing dealio. Been awhile since I wrote much, though 1,000 words isn't much.

I just wrote an article about one of the new Sentinel suits, but I'm not sure if I should post it yet. I'd like to play around with it in 1.8 and see if I need to revise anything based on actual play experience. However, I really don't really see play experience changing much about my article if anything at all, but you never know.
If I post it now, would the possibility to revise it be allowed if I feel that my experience actually using the Sentinel in question would change anything?

Dust 514 - The Unconventional Sentinel
By Supernus Gigas
Maybe you've seen one pop up in the kill-feed. Maybe you've gotten one before yourself, perhaps even more than one! That once-in-a-while rare kill; like seeing a unicorn or a Commando. I'm talking of course about Melee kills. What is Melee? Why it's the simple act of beating down your opponent with brute strength. It's often used as a last resort; an act of desperation when you run out of ammo. However, in the right hands and the right fitting, it can be a force to be reckoned with.
Now, what is this magical Melee fitting you may ask? Well if you've read the title you've probably got an idea. Melee is dangerous business. You have to be exceptionally close to hit your opponent. You need maneuverability. Why not a Scout or an Assault? Why a Sentinel? They are, after all, the slowest of all the Dropsuits. Well I'll tell you why; while getting close fast is important, you're not going to get very close if you can't soak up a few bullets. The naturally high HP buffer that Sentinels have will let you get close and not die. You won't be very fast, however. That is why there is one, and only one Sentinel that will excel at Melee. That is the Minmatar Sentinel mk.0.
The Minmatar Sentinel mk.0 has a versatile Slot layout and is the fastest of all the Sentinels. With three available High-Slots you can equip three Complex Myrofibril Stimulants for a punch that will shatter diamonds. Two Low-Slots are also available, one Complex Kinetic Catalyzer and one Complex Cardiac Regulator are the best choices. Why only one Kinetic Catalyzer? Because that Complex Cardiac Regulator is extremely important; it more than doubles your available Stamina and Stamina Regeneration. While an extra Kinetic Catalyzer will allow you to sprint faster, you won't sprint for long and that extra Sprint Speed is useless if you don't have any Stamina left to Melee your opponent.
For weapons, it's up to personal preference. I prefer the Freedom Assault Heavy Machine Gun. Since your primary weapon for this fitting is Melee, it would be wise to have a weapon to compliment it with some extra range. Grenades and side-arms are also up to personal taste. I prefer Flux Grenades and no side-arm on this fit. I like to think of Melee as the primary and the Assault HMG as the side-arm. You could also be GÇ£that guyGÇ¥ and equip a Rail Rifle, but I won't get into that.
You may be wondering just how much Melee Damage we're talking about here, so let's get into the numbers. At 150 HP Damage, Heavy Suits(Basic Heavy Frames, Commandos, and Sentinels) have the highest Melee Damage of any other tier of suit. This also means that Myrofibril Stimulants augment the Melee Damage of Heavies more than any other suit. The Minmatar Sentinel also has the fastest Sprint Speed of the other Sentinels meaning Kinetic Catalyzers augment it more effectively. The mk.0 also has the second largest Stamina Pool and fastest Stamina Regeneration of the Sentinels, so Cardiac Regulators augment it greatly as well.
With three Complex Myrofibril Stimulants and Level 5 Hand-to-Hand Skill the Minmatar mk.0 can achieve a Melee Damage of 619 Damage.[1] That is enough to take down any suit in one or two punches, with the exception of most other Sentinels and Basic Heavy Frames.
With one Complex Kinetic Catalyzer, Level 5 Biotics Skill and Level 5 Kinetic Catalyzation Skill the Minmatar mk.0 can achieve a Sprint Speed of 6.7m/s.[2] To put that in perspective, the Amarr Medium suits have a base sprint speed of 6.72m/s.
With one Complex Cardiac Regulator, Level 5 Biotics Skill and Level 5 Cardiac Regulation Skill the Minmatar mk.0 can achieve a Stamina Pool of 275[3] and a Stamina Regeneration rate of 88.2 stamina per second.[4] That's enough Stamina to feed a poor Ethiopian village for six months.[5]
Now that you've seen the numbers for yourself, hopefully you can gain an appreciation for this underused combat technique. Melee kills are great fun, and this fit is meant to be a fun fit for people to bewilder and confuse their opponents with extreme close range combat. By no means is this meant to be any kind of serious or competitive fitting.
_________________________________________________________________________________________________
[1] 150(Base Melee Damage) * 1.75(MyroStim One) * 1.6518(MyroStim Two) * 1.4279(MyroStim Three) = 619.13 HP Damage
Hand-to-Hand Skill grants 10% Module Efficacy per level. At Level 5 the Bonus is 50% making a Complex MyroStim a 75% increase to Melee Damage compared to it's base 50% increase.
[2] 5.67m/s(Base Sprint Speed) * 1.05(Level 5 Biotics Bonus) * 1.126(KinCat One) = 6.7m/s
Biotics Skill grants a 1% increase to Base Sprint Speed per level. At Level 5 the Bonus is 5%.
Kinetic Catalyzation Skill grants 1% Module Efficacy per level. At Level 5 the Bonus is 5% making a Complex KinCat a 12.6% increase to Sprint Speed compared to it's base 12%.
[3] 125(Base Stamina Pool) * 1.05( Level 5 Biotics Bonus) * 2.10(CardReg One) = 275.63 Stamina
Biotics Skill grants a 1% increase to Base Stamina Pool per level. At Level 5 the Bonus is 5%.
Cardiac Regulation Skill grants 2% Module Efficacy per level. At Level 5 the Bonus is 10% making a Complex CardReg a 110% increase to the Stamina Pool compared to it's base 100% increase.
[4] 40 Stamina per second(Base Stamina Regen) * 1.05(Level 5 Biotics Bonus) * 2.10(CardReg One) = 88.2 Stamina per second.
Biotics Skill grants a 1% increase to Base Stamina Regen per level. At Level 5 the Bonus is 5%.
Cardiac Regulation Skill grants 2% Module Efficacy per level. At Level 5 the Bonus is 10% making a Complex CardReg a 110% increase to the Stamina Regen compared to it's base 100% increase.

GÇ£ I like to BrainstormGÇ¥
So a question was raised a while back on how CCP could monetize or gain more support or finances for this game that has so much potential. I started brainstorming and this is what I think CCP could put on the market or even charge isk and thus create a NEW buzz or a motivation for DUST and EVE Players as a whole.
LetGÇÖs get to the basics and holy grail of all games, what do RPG and FP shooters really like? Items, resources, sockets, gear, vehicles that are TRULY RARE and can change the tide of war. In other words, Loot. I'm not talking OP or a guarantee win, I'm talking about such things as different defensive sockets for pc maps that corps can set up before the match. Maybe offensive vehicles with heavier armor/ shield protection to overcome such defenses for attacking corps. Let us buy the ability to call down 2 blaster turrets, a supply depot in areas of our choice. Give us a gear crate with RARE suites that have RARE slots/ abilities and weapons that are limited. Perhaps donGÇÖt even tell us whatGÇÖs in the crates until we buy? Do you guys understand the nostalgia of buying baseball card packs where we hoped to score big but had no promises?(Ex: Heavy suite with light suit speed, Assault suite with heavy weapon, Logi suit with commando capabilities etc)These abilities or items would be available maybe once a month then they change the following month. BUT LIMIT THEM, while providing a healthy variety of such items or abilities. This will make corps think and strategize about which ones to invest in depending on the situation they believe they will be facing. Or invest in abilities that corps can reward their soldiers with. Such as 5 hour SP boosters, Officer suitesGÇÖ vehicles, drop ships etc that show off the players rank in their corporation or experience as an individual player. The point is make the players invest in the game and itGÇÖs potential.
As far as getting Dust and Eve together, allow corps to invest in RARE orbital ammunition with larger area of impact, munitions that can affect areas under cover, munitions specific for vehicles, munitions that replenish shields or armor. And give Pilots rewards for supplying the orbitals. Offer EVE pilots RARE items, resources, and gear that is only available when a contracted corp or squad wins a specific battle or mission if we are looking at PvE.
Really itGÇÖs all supply and demand. You got way to much supply not enough Demand. Everyone wants to stand out, be different, have a slight edge, have something no one else has. AAAAND everyone also wants to TAKE that something away. Just look at what people will do to kill rare protos, thales, officer weapons, aurm tanks etc. We love to make those people pay for thinking they can have an edge and not lose it. We also LOVE to pay for the slight chance of HAVING the edge ourselves. Our countries make millions of selling off advanced weaponry to each other while concealing their own defenses against those very weapons. Do you have any idea how much could be done if you sold both defensive and offense to all sides? Heck maybe this would create a new niche on Eve and Dust side..Arms dealer? Weapons Smuggler? True Mercs to complete elite missions/battles? The point is, there are ideas and answers out here, and well ..I just like to brainstorm.

Laser rifle techniques for fun and profit
The Laser Rifle (hereafter referred to by its proper name, the laz0r) is one of the most unique, not to mention fun, weapons in Dust 514. A full guide to the use of this great weapon will be forthcoming from yours truly, but for now let's discuss the varied ways in which this weapon can be used to its maximum potential.
The first rule of being effective with the laz0r is to stay in optimal range; what exactly this will be in 1.8 is a matter of some debate, but for now if you are not within 60-80m of your target donGÇÖt waste your time, the damage dropoff is ludicrous (on both ends). One of the best ways to keep people in this range is to fire from a height, just like with a sniper rifle or forge gun. This makes it more difficult for opponents to get inside the optimal and engage you up close, a fight you will always lose (without switching to a sidearm).
More importantly, however, the key thing to know about the laz0r, and what makes it unique, is that it does more damage the longer you hold the trigger. (as the in-game hint says, GÇ£Continuous fire increases damage output.GÇ¥)
Things that do not increase damage include: 1) The amount of heat on the heat gauge. 2) The amount of time you keep the beam on your target. These are both common misconceptions. It bears repeating: Nothing besides holding the trigger down as long as possible will increase your damage output. Always fire with the heat gauge at zero, and donGÇÖt let go until you are thisclose to overheating!
What this means in practice is that you actually do not want to hit your target right away (unless your primary goal is suppressive fire). If you do, you will not be putting out enough damage and they will be able to get into cover before you can finish them off.
So, what you need to do is intentionally miss until you are maybe 1/3-1/2 way up the heat gauge before you actually hit your target (depending on how many targets you have). This is commonly known as "pre-heating."
The classic method of pre-heating is to pick an inanimate object like a nearby box or rock, and fire at it until you reach the desired level of "heat" and then sweep off the object and onto your target. Once you reach the upper portions of the heat gauge, you will be putting out enough damage that you can quickly kill multiple targets if your aim is good (especially if they are shield-tanked suits). This is a somewhat vanilla way of using the weapon, but it definitely works. The classic "boring but effective" method.
But who wants that?! Believe it or not, how you miss is where a lot of the fun can come from! Here are a few of my favorite techniques:
1) "The derp": AKA "oh noes I sure do suck at dust!". In this case you fire sorta near your targets but wave the beam haphazardly all over the place like you have terrible aim or have no idea what you are doing. Once you are preheated, suddenly whip the laz0r beam right on target and melt the enemies face before they know what hit them.
2) "The clothesline": Arguably my favorite, but is very situational. Locate an enemy running perpendicular to your line of sight (or close to it) and basically on level ground with you. Fire the laz0r ahead of them, ideally just at or above head level. Time it right, and they will run straight into your beam at maximum heat, "clotheslining" themselves WWE-style on it. Headshot!
3)"The decoy": If a friendly player is engaging the enemy, fire at them instead. (Warning: NOT intended for use in factional warfare or PC!). You can preheat your beam and hopefully lull your target into a false sense of security thinking their teammate is the one firing the laz0r. Once you are heated up, they will realize the truth after they see your name on the "killed by" screen. - Alternately, if there is a group of targets, fire at the one you would like to scare away (for example, the one who sees you or is shooting at you!) and then finish off the rest once you are heated up.
4)"Death from above": AKA "a bolt from the blue". Shoot into the air well above your target. Once preheated, swing the beam straight down onto their heads and smite them with your purifying light! Can be tough to pull off, but just like the clothesline, very satisfying when you do. Bonus points for the Amarr RP'er who busts out an appropriately haughty one liner about God's wrath at the same time!
Got more? Please share, I'll put them in the final version of the guide!

My Submission: "DUST 514: The Real Game"
So you have no doubt seen the reviews or heard people talk about DUST 514 (Oh, how CCP loves those acronyms). Many people that talked about the game, positively or negatively, likely mentioned a certain other game franchise: "This game is basically trying to be Call of Duty.GÇ¥ It really does seem that way when you first look at the game, at least at base levels. You have a 'nameless' soldier (and since all gamers want to be twelve years old, the name given to the formless clay is generally "Loveztospooge on-Yew") that fights against different "factions" or "corporations" each match, you shoot at other dudes, Warbarge Strikes are your kill streaks, ironsights aiming is awfully familiar, and you even get 50 'points' for killing someone.
The statements such as "DUST is just COD in space" focus on fairly minor details that make up the game. Those statements are a very strange way of looking at it. It is basically saying "This game is like something popular therefore it is bad." It discounts what is in the game simply by implying that it is the same car just spray-painted a different color. This is missing the real game in DUST, at least the real game in my opinion. Sure, you can have fun running around shooting Gallente in the face with Rail Rifles, tea-bagging Gallente corpses, blowing up Gallente and watching them ragdoll, or waste the reader's time by going on and on about those god damn Gallente; that game is certainly there. But if you want to feel like the game has got you by the ear, there is something far more insidious and ingenious: The Skill Point Tree.
At first, it mostly just seems like it is there to unlock stuff and provide progression. For the most part, it is but there is far more to it than that. The Skill Tree requires planning if you want to make the most of it; it requires careful, excruciating thought lest you make a terrible decision and sit there forever regretting it. Allow me to use another game as an example.
Amnesia is one of the best horror games ever made. I don't think I really need to talk about it too much: there are hundreds of videos on "the internet" that show people nearly defecating from the wonderful horror that comes through the experience of playing the game. All the game needs to do is turn off the light, have the presence of wrongness following you throughout game, and keeps you moving forward because DEAR GOD THERE IS A MONSTER RUN RUN RUN RUN! Imagine the game though if you were a machine and completely incapable of emotion: "Game is not good. Textures are poor, little game play beyond simple puuu-zzles, little challenge in running from monsters." That would be about most true horror games though. It is the experience[/b that is noteworthy rather than the game play itself.
So what does this have to do with DUST? Simple...
The deeper aspects of the game want to target you; yes, you in the chair reading this. It wants you to agonize over parts that you never thought you would agonize over. "Cool! I get 400,400 SP a week if I log on every day.GÇ¥ Now where are you going to spend those points? Getting those quick 1-3 levels in Sniper Rifle will get you to advanced weapons but how are you going to use the advanced Sniper Rifle with your other gear if you donGÇÖt have the CPU/PG. GÇ£Okay, I guess I will just throw 3 points in Engineering and Electronics this week.GÇ¥ Glad that you decided on that. But, isnGÇÖt it kind of aggravating that you are not getting any bonus this week? Maybe you should have put those points elsewhere?
That is the game. It is an intense thought experiment on how you are going to save and spend a very limited resource. The player will have oh-so many thoughts and ideas on what to do but every little bump in the road just sends those hopes and dreams down, down the toilet. But donGÇÖt worry at all; there isnGÇÖt anything else to really worry about. Just go play the game and have fun!
GÇ£Oh, it seems like you made a mistake when [b]you decided to attack that Amarr Heavy toe to toe with your Minmatar Assault. DonGÇÖt worry though, it is just a game. DonGÇÖt forget to restock the suit. Owww, 84k a suit? Wow, and you lost 3 that match. You are never going to be able to afford those new Sniper Rifles when, well, IF you ever get them.GÇ¥
By having expendable resources, one that can never be recovered, that are the playerGÇÖs job to manage, DUST creates a level of depth and complexity that is rarely seen in other games. It may just seem that the Skill Point system is there to offer advancement and bar entry for certain things until you play a bit GÇ£LIKE CALL OF DUTYGÇ¥s different weapons. That is part of the case. But there is a psychological element there that I am not sure most people are aware of.
If you divide the SP needed for a skill by the first increment needed to get the skill to level 1 you end up with the numbers: 1, 3, 7, 14, 25. This means that getting a skill from 4 to 5 is the same exact price to get the skill to 1-4. At EVERY single rank, you are putting equal to or more than the SP you had previously put into the skill. We have our GÇ£Person in ChairGÇ¥ targeting dilemma. Is it better to get multiple skills to rank 3 or get a single to rank 5? Just like in EVE: GÇ£Would you rather grow tall or wide?GÇ¥
The beautiful thing is that the more casual player never has to see this aspect of the game. They never have to spend their time making spreadsheets, calculating cost to effectiveness of their equipment, never have to worry about all those SP that could get GÇÿwastedGÇÖ by making a poor choice. The GÇ£run GÇÖnGÇÖ gunGÇ¥ game in DUST is there.
Just donGÇÖt let it fool you that the game isnGÇÖt looking at you with hungry eyesGǪ
