Remember how happy the community was when the stats for the new suits came out?
"Woohoo! Scouts get an extra equipment slot."
"Commando's gonna be beast!"
"Dat Caldari Sentinel!"
Granted, there was some furor just before we saw the actual stats, when there was talks of removing the sidearm for scouts, but the community spoke out against it. CCP listened and people were grateful.
That's all gone now.
First, it was the absurd levels of secrecy regarding the release date of 1.8. The year started with some awkward holidays so I'm not totally unsympathetic towards CCP for pushing 1.8 back a bit. I am however most unsympathetic towards the way CCP has handled any mentions of an actual release date. If I hadn't known better, I would have thought that 1.8 contained sensitive details about Putins invasion of Crimea. "March" was all we got, not late March or mid-late March just "March". They narrowed it down to which 8,33% of the year would contain 1.8. If pregnancies can be narrowed down to the specific date, why can't a patch?
Next came the news that TTK was going up, but practically nothing was done to de-shitify the AR. The rail rifle is still going to reign supreme, followed by the combat rifle or (if in skilled hands) the scrambler. Although this is based solely on numbers and not on actual gameplay so who knows; maybe we'll be pleasantly surprised. I doubt it though.
Now, it's the DS command respec/refund (depending on who you talk to). The people who wanted a respec (including me) are disappointed because it was the absolute least amount of respec we could have gotten, and the people who didn't want a respec are disappointed (I assume) because there is going to be a respec. Probably less so than the pro-respec group but disappointed nonetheless.
What can CCP do to make the community happy again, or at least happier? For me, the answer is simple:
OPEN UP THE DECISION-MAKING PROCESS!
Why is there such secrecy about the release dates of patches? Why aren't patch notes, or at least preliminary patch notes released more than one week in advance? Is it because of Q&A, or Sony or something else?
To quote the latest dev blog:
"After lengthy discussions with the CPM and large amounts of community feedback, the decision has been made to refund all skill points currently spent in the Dropsuit Command tree to playersGÇÖ unallocated SP pools. So, if your preferred racial frame didnGÇÖt previously exist, youGÇÖll be able to switch to one of the newly available suit frames without penalty."
Fair enough, but what arguments were taken into consideration to decide against respeccing DS upgrades and weaponry? Was it to prevent FOTM-bandwagon jumping, or to promote the use of boosters, or was it to keep some semblance of choices mattering or was it something else?
If the reasoning behind why certain decisions are made public, the atmosphere on the forums would not be as hostile as it is now.

I was surprised at how they changed the slot layout and cpu/pg on the logi suits when I think it was, logibro? That stated they had to push back that for another update. Shame on him for lying to us...anyway...I am very happy with these changes.

The atmosphere would be even more toxic as it would only give those who wish to QQ more ammunition, IMO.

Yes, but the rest of us would know and wouldn't have to resort to QQ'ing to let our frustrations be known. |

CCP = crowd control productions... For real... google it.
Donning that moniker for a Corporation name, You would kinda understand there is no pleasing everyone ever.
This was living upto the way they have done business with gamers Since they launched EVE online...
Nothing is surprising here... And they where completely fair in their decision. |

In my experience, when giving news that can been interpreted positively or negatively by those reading it, you're better served giving less information than more.
Of course, your experience may be different, and that's cool, but I suspect that CCP -- who are certainly not noobs when it comes to interacting with an emotionally and financially invested client base -- knows exactly what it's doing here. |

Yah they are subject to change and we got a warning from them about it by logibro... And that they won't be able to test and implement changes for 1.8.

Don't kid yourself.
People will QQ for anything these days. I would know. I have been around these forums to know how people react to anything. You start learning a lot of things once you train up to Forum Warrior Level 5.

You honestly haven't heard the quote GÇ£You can please some of the people some of the time all of the people some of the time some of the people all of the time but you can never please all of the people all of the time.GÇ¥
aka no matter what you do not everyone is going to be happy with the decision CCP is listening to the majority of the players and the majority says TTK needs to be longer/higher and that we needed a DS command respec at the least
as for why no specific date on the next patch placing a specific date on a release day for the patch is a horrible idea if they did that and couldn't make it in time they would either have to: a) push the release later making people mad at a failed promise b) rush it and deliver a unfinished product so by placing a vague date they can work on the patch while not having to stress over an impending deadline
