Suggestion: Add button/option to suit selection so that a merc can opt to bring up a current list of items equipped and select one to be switched out. Bring up menu of owned items to switch to.
Why: There are suits that exist that require a lot of variation at times. For example I am primarily a heavy, for which I keep several "tiers" of expense depending on mood/games. Each tier has an HMG version, AV grenade + HMG version, and full AV version. I cannot imagine the fitting menus Logis use. I only run logi 25% of the time and have versions for uplinks, for dedicated healing, for general support, and recently one added for scanning (giving it a go). However for the Heavy suits the HMG + AV nade is the same suit as my normal fit with AV nades. Yet it requires an extra slot for instances where people are goofing around in LAVs. My new Scanner logi is only 1 equipment slot different from general support, and my uplink logi is also only 1 equipment slot different from my focused healer.
Being able to not create (and update as needed) duplicates of these suits would save a lot of time and menu space.
Additionally by making it apply to only 1 deployment (as in next time you choose a new suit it turns back) you remove the need to "change the suits back" later.
I also think it would add some extra significance to defense choices. With the upcoming update I may find that an enemy Caldari Heavy is causing a lot of problems and quick switch to a scrambler rifle or laser. Amarr/Gallante scouts may cause problems behind our lines and I choose to switch to an SMG sidearm as opposed to my pistol. My squad may be getting beat up badly by a team with excessive amounts of deployed equipment, I might call for a temporary flux equip.
Daydreaming:
I'd actually rather see a 2 level inheritance system for dropsuit selection, but I'm trying to make suggestions that don't require as much messing around with things (though this does imply gameplay changes). The 2 tier system would have the base suit which it's children derive from and they would have marked slots for "alternate options". Based on my normal options listed above example I would have my A/1 basic Sentinel suit with HMG and personally prefered combat loadout. Two suits could then inherit from it. One in which the grenade is switched with an AV grenade, and another in which the HMG is switched with a forge gun and the grenade switched with an AV grenade. When changes are made to the base suit the change is inherited to any suits that don't mark that slot as a modified slot.
However I understand this is more of a daydream as there are a lot of necessary changes. Selecting the suit in the fitting editor changes (can't just press right as it can happen easily by accident). When modifying base suit an indicator would need to be provided which shows what child suits are suddenly invalid. Selecting both at a supply depot as well as during respawn would be changed. Indicating how many fittings of a child you have available becomes different, etc.
But even if the above doesn't provide more fitting options (say if the children counted as a saved fitting for purposes of max fitting count) it would make it much much cleaner. |
