We are a third of the way through March and CCP still can't commit to a date for 1.8. Our community managers can only provide a month, which is like asking when dinner will be ready and being told, "Today sometime probably." We can pretty much count on 1.8 being pushed back to April at this point.
The smart money is on April 1st because it's a Tuesday. Anyone for April 8th?

Nah, I'm still thinking early April. They are probably going to tell us around March 20th so the sting will be lessened a bit.

Something probably has gone wrong. I mean, what self-respecting company would go this long without informing their playerbase of a release date for a long overdue patch unless the office is literally on fire?

If we are getting 1.9: 4 months after 1.8 so August 2014.
If we are getting an expansion: 6 months after 1.8 so October 2014.

Visually, Destiny looks great, but everything else we have seen has been E3 footage and that makes me apprehensive about buying into the hype. After several EA launches I'm not judging any game until a month after it has launched.
Planetside 2 is shite. Played it, and in comparison to Dust's flaws and bugs, I still enjoyed playing Dust far more than PS2. I don't know what it is about PS2 that I don't like. It just doesn't grab me. Maybe it's the New Eden universe that draws me to Dust and away from PS2.
I'm not sure The Witcher 3 is going to really cut into Dust's demographic that much, to be honest. Plus Dust is F2P. People can return to it between games (spans of months between games, mind you) and find it with a new update or two.

Don't presume that every PS3 owner immediately went out and bought a PS4... in fact, PS3's are still selling quite well due to the price drops.
Anyway, let's try to stay on topic shall we? You think we'll see 1.8 on April 1 or 8? Later in April?

CCP has promised three devblogs "to be released in the weeks leading up to 1.8". We've receive a whooping one of them. If we get patch notes tomorrow that would mean we are going to receive two devblogs before 3/18?... Not happening.

True, but that is the most half-assed answer I've heard in recent history. To make matters worse I think they believe that kind of a vague answer is actually acceptable in this context.
When a patch is a month away CCP can say, "It will be in X month."
When a patch is supposedly two weeks away CCP should say, "The patch will be on X date."
Why? Because it is professional. Because it indicates you respect your customers. Because it indicates you know what the hell you are doing.

I read that post actually. We shouldn't have to decipher cryptic community manager posts that hint at a possible patch day, maybe, hopefully. There should be a dev post sticked at the top of GD by now saying, "1.8 on 4/1, expect patch notes by 3/25. Devblogs to be released weekly starting 3/3." Or something very similar. That's how big boy and girl companies do business... well, ones that like money anyway.
Anything less than that is wasting everyone's time.

They aren't at our beck and call, but they will want to make us happy if they hope to make money... and businesses are in business to make money. If they aren't then they are a charity, which CCP isn't.

Well you aren't wrong... but see the above reply. CCP wants money, our money, to be specific. Seeing how they want our money they should at least try to provide information on things like long overdue patches and such.

They want a forum to hear from us and allow us to mingle with one another. Games that allow their players to be social typically have higher retention rates than games that don't. That's good business sense. You know what else is good business sense? Telling your customers specific dates and times for important updates you plan on making to your product.
