Oh def... I see it... so worth it... Died five time and finally killed that garbage fit sica with proto SL - ah yess! the moment of glory! Oh wait, here is another RDV fielding a new sica.... Lol, definitely all that effort and pain is worth the OMG awesome reward of killing a militia tank driven by a noob.
PLC, NK, Scout - before 1.8.

I'm no dust stud, but switching to AV to help the team is pretty much suicide. Sooooooooo.... roll in a squad.
You wont be saying that when its YOUR tank getting blown up.

Funny story, back in Modu's Private Trials I was originally Minmitar but then I saw CCP's blatant favoritism for the Caldari with their constant stream of easy mode weapons. I knew Gallente were Enemies with the State so thus I became Sgt Kirk. Challenger of all things OP/Caldari/CCP. (All those words are interchangeable) Surpsingly my EVE Character Bio has no mention of my hatred for Caldari but more so my incontent with the Corrupt Federation. Each one still hates the Caldari just as equally though. The more you know.
I know you too much boyo

I mean what positive could have come from this or how would I have gotten behind this idea ? No way. They lock for tracking guidance.
Leave all negative comments about tanks in the bin marked " TRASH " and we'll get to it as soon as possible . Thank You

u mean "why do swarm launchers still REQUIRE lock?" coz it is quite obvious why they lock on.

Personally, I'm a fan of the lock on feature as it allows me to bank shots around corners and over hills where tanks don't have a direct line of fire. It's literally the *only* advantage I have as a Swarm user (proficiency II iirc) as I do agree they're pretty much useless now. You need multiple Swarmers attacking a lesser quality tank with a bad pilot to actually take em out. Hell, I have trouble taking out LAVs and Turrets now, and Dropships can just fly away and aren't even threatened by Swarms anymore.
That said, I can't think of any specific boosts to give to Swarms across the board to make them more useful but keep them balanced. I do however have suggestions to make the variant types actually viable choices to equip instead of being the absolute wastes of code they are now. As of right now the Specialist Type has lower equip requirements, but increased lock on times and the Assault variant allows for locking on of two different targets with increased equip costs (iirc). But to me, both of these are non-choices, lock on is too long as is, and I need every missile to hit a single target to even hope to damage it.
I think some better choices would be to make the Assault version have faster lock times and missile speeds at increased costs (maybe even added range) and make a Breach version with less missiles per shot, but more damage per missile (good for closer range ambushes as each missile has more bang for the buck...literally).
I love using my Swarms, I just wish they were actually worth using.

Thing about dumbfire is you have to remember that swarms spread out on launch making anything directly in front of you for... 10-20 yd. complete safe. Assuming they even curve back in. No, locking on makes the swarms generally viable. What it REALLY needs is a speed boost in the projectiles. Not a huge boost, maybe faster than an unmodded dropship. Each swarm is a small aircraft, after all, with little drag and very little weight. The fact they travel so slow compared to bigger, bulkier targets like dropships and LAVs is pretty sad. Modern conventional handheld rocket munitions are faster than swarms. It's the time between lock and hit that's killing their effectiveness more than their damage. |
