Something else interesting to point out here is that this was way before hit detection was fixed. During this video half of his bullets that connected were doing no damage, which was a big reason for all the dancing in the big fights. Before they figured out how to fix the problem they started compensating by increasing the damage of things until people were mostly satisfied with how long it took to kill someone. That's why the damage of almost everything is being brought down in 1.8. |

To be fair that game mode was pretty unbalanced, depending on the general SP level of the players in the game one side would always win. At low levels of SP the defenders would nearly always win hands down, due to terrain and railgun installations shooting the MCC.
At higher levels of SP it was literally impossible for the defenders to win. It isn't shown in this video, but the attacker win conditon is the MCC reaching the facility at the other end of the map, and it doesn't start moving until those first two objectives were destroyed. Incidentally, something I really like about this is that there isn't a progress bar that shows the attackers how close they are to winning. If you wanted to know how close you were you had to look up in the sky. Anyway the problem at high levels of SP is that an attacking tank would two-shot each defense relay, making it utterly impossible to kill the MCC before it docked. One player could make it so that the attacking team could kick their feet up at the rear line, have a drink and collect their win.
All the same it was still a shitload of fun. I'd really enjoy it if they brought it back. |

I think it's hilarious how many closed beta people think that Mordu's Private Trials wasn't crammed full of Eve players. Anyone with an Eve account who was interested could apply to get in. A lot of Eve players have more than one account. I actually had two keys for MPT.
"Half the threads from back in Closed Beta making all these so-called bad suggestions you people love to talk about where from players coming in from other shooters and trying to demand junk like killcams, and Prestige, and Killstreaks."
Not only were those bad suggestions all coming from players of other shooters, it was a small but very vocal minority of players shouting for those suggestions. The Eve players were the ones shooting down ideas that proposed to turn Dust into a new version of Quake f*cking Arena, because there was no way it could be integrated with the lore and character of New Eden. The average forum poster today has a better grasp of the vision for Dust and isn't obsessed with someone recreating their favorite fps from the past, which means they tend to have better ideas and suggestions than that bunch did. And you know how bad the average suggestion is today....let that sink in a bit and just imagine how terrible the forums were in closed beta. |
