So much for that 80 million user install base on PS3 huh? Second Son isn't even a game I was planning on buying and it's doing that well, simply due to lack of choices available.
Can we have Dust on PS4 now? |

Can we have Dust on PS4 now? That game does look awesome though and the 1st 1 was pretty good too DUST is a long way off being at that calibre and honestly it is better off staying on the PS3 so it doesn't have to directly compete with the next gen games. Maybe in 2/3 years this game will have all its bugs fixed, we'll have more gamemodes, bigger teams, balance, better graphics, no lag etc etc until then it'll stay on the PS3
Dust looked good too, before it was ported to the worst piece of hardware with the worst engine on the last generation.
I guess hiring a bunch of cheap chinese labor to make the game didn't do them any favors either. |

Game development has nothing to do with consumer demand.
Ironically enough, neither does marketing. It's just a facade of a degree that teaches you ways to try and sound intelligent when pitching a product you know nothing about.
For example, calling Dust a AAA title. Ho boy! Nail on the head with that one, marketing! |

Actually the cell in the ps3 is more powerful than the xbox360 and I dont even need to mention the wii. Just harder to develop for because it was brand new tech. No one had experience with it, which is why dust is in the state it's in, Chinas 14 year console ban means no one in china knows anything about developing on a ps3. The problem isn't the ps3, it's shanghais lack of console optimization Dust514 is basically a game from 2007. the team has as much experience as the rest of the devs did 7-8 years ago. I agree though that unreal engine sucks.
You're not giving me new information. I've heard preaching about the cell for years now. It has yet to produce any results that were superior to the 360. Developer incompetence or not, its current status is bottom of the barrel.
If the architecture is so entirely inaccessible to developers that nobody can take advantage of it, then that simply detracts its value even further.
If nobody in China knew how the hell to program for the thing, that doesn't exactly make CCP decision of hiring cheap chinese labor any better does it? |

Lots of people liked bioshock, and every game in that franchise has sold well. The studio closing down caught the entire industry off guard.
I'm not personally a fan of the gameplay. Feels a bit dated to me, and pretty linear considering it has a money system. Some other things feel "off" about it to me. Maybe it has to do with the art style, now that I think about it.... but it is a quality game, even if its very much on-rails. |

The decision to be on PS4 at/close to launch would have had to be made a year or two ago at least. There's no use pointing out a well expected downside to a long past long-term business decision.
Actually, you do go and make that decision. Especially when the game runs like ass as much as it does.
It's not properly optimized for the PS3 because it was originally developed for PC and architecture that is similar to PC (360 which is now no longer possible, and PS4). Optimizing it further for the PS3 would make it more difficult to port to other systems, which has always been the goal.
They've just been held back by stupid marketing decisions combined with bad resource allocation, and thats whats keeping us in limbo. |

Jared Till wrote: That is false The Last Of Us looked better than any other game on consoles and better than almost all pc games.
No, it didn't. It had good character models, which is where the majority of the system resources went into. The actual environmental textures were average, and the areas were small to keep things manageable. The game also did an INCREDIBLE amount of pre-loading to make it all work.
It was a good game, and it probably did push the PS3 about as far as it could go, but it did not trump other games graphically when resource management, complete environment detail and total area used are taken into account.
Don't even try to say that it looks better than almost all PC games, because that is a bald faced lie. I can mod the hell out of 2002's Morrowind on PC until it looks better than Last of Us. Let's not even go into more recent games. |

Disagree again, for the reasons already listed.
Last of Us did not push its environments hard at all. You can claim a game looks better due to the character models because thats what the game attempts to make you focus on the majority of the time, but that doesn't make it true. |

I think it sounds like you just liked the art style of the game then. In terms of straight fidelity, TLoU was not that impressive. Its easy to say TLoU beats out unmodded 16-bit games from the 80s... okay sure. But anything released with a similar development budget and in the same year or later for the PC... I would say most of those games are able to achieve higher fidelity than TLoU was. Well, yes and no in my opinion you can have textures at 10k and the game can still look bad without environmental effects, ( like water reflections) ,physics, and proper 3D models and animations the game will not be as Graphically amazing as others. Joels backpack had low res textures on it Know but the Devs put and an overlaying pattern on it to make it less noticeable. I am not saying The Last Of Us had higher resolution textures than all PC games but they everything was better applied than most games. that is what I am saying. And that is what Dust needs to do on the PS3.
What Dust needs to do is not run at 10-15 FPS during competitive matches. |
