I liked 1.6 everything about tanks. It was a skill back then. Not just a crutch to a build.
But of course, I was called stupid when I said the 1.7 tank buff / AV nerf was a terrible idea.
We're going into 1.8 and we are still complaining about tank issues (although not nearly as much) and I have a feeling 1.8 will make it even worse with the damage mod nerf which finally crush AV out of the picture once and for all.

+1 for thinking out of the box and trying not to be biased, i'm tired of these sterile thread where peep defend toes and nail their playstyle, even when they know it's totally unbalanced, this game needs to evolve and it's community also, in the end all we want is the same thing, that dust become a better game

If tanks, under your model, can be taken out in the same time as another suit, you have a few things that you have not addressed.
1. Engagement values. With suits, you can have an exclusive 1v1 fight anywhere on the map at any time. Tanks are too large for this, and will always have 5+ players looking and tracking it's movement at any time. Tanks cannot engage in 1v1 unless the target is winging off alone someplace for an unknown reason, or is a sniper etc.. Tanks announce their positions, suits do not. 3.This would create a constant-fear scenario where the only tankers who can survive are those who stay back, out of the combat area. AKA blaster tanks would be a thing of the past, and railguns would be the prominent weapon system. In fact, if you were trying to keep this death timer for kills balanced, they would have to increase the splash radius and damage from splash by railguns, so that they could effectively do the same thing to infantry that infantry can do to tanks. AKA Tanks have a large hitbox, and infantry have a small one, so weapons for tanks would need large splash, and infantry splash very small.

ITS A TANK ITS SUPPOST TO BE HARD AS **** TO KILL, and 2nd my tanks get killed by av all the time. and I don't even go into main area! you just need to work together with other players to take it down.(unlees you maxed out proto forgeguner)
and as to trying to take away what pg cpu or slots we have, I guess you were not around in beta, tanks use to be WAY MORE POWERFUL! then ccp toke away our CPU and PG making them the jokes we see today the only thing new these days is the fact that AV got nerfed

If i wanted a tank to be a dropsuit i wouldnt have skilled into tanks and just skilled into more dropsuits
lolno hardeners? seriously? so my proto FG will completely dominate all vehicles and its even worse than pre 1.7 because you cannot defend yourself and less modules again
10seconds? we had that pre 1.7 and i remember you complaining that they were useless and they are for 10seconds
For the cost you might aswell run a dropsuit
How would the AI tank last longer than the AV tank? It wouldnt
Everything dies in 3 seconds? so why bother using a tank?
Tank and DS have same EHP, so they now both useless
Shields - We already have fast regen and boosters which can nearly boost back to full shields, hardener is useless tho since it your world it lasts for 10seconds so it it hard once and wait 10seconds then kill it
Turret mods - 8k dmg, you know infantry would cry about redline rails more and also others
Stealth - Im suprised you allow us o move while cloaked, radar is funny swarms wont like that
Mobility - infantry will hate that mod but your prob dead before you get to use it
Armor - We used to have better plates
Scanners - we have that now mostly
So proto vehicles are now the std vehicles we have now, less slots less everything less mods so less variations
What the **** are you smoking?
I just wasted my time reading this and its full of **** ideas and ways to kill off vehicles altogether to turn it into COD 514 space edition

Buffing tanks/nerfing AV wasn't a terrible idea, CCP just completely screwed it up. Swarms were horribly broken and need about 10% damage off, as did AV nades, and shield tanks needed to be able to compete with armor tanks(longer hardener duration?).

I think boosters needed a buff, and of course swarms and nades.
This overhaul did much more harm then good in my opinion.
HAVs just needed a price slash to make them good enough to be left for a patch or two, but they decided to go overkill and ended up breaking it. Severely.
