So scouts are getting buffs, and I'm glad for it, but there's still more to be done fellow shadows: the passive scan range of the scout suit (barring the gallente) is still an issue that needs to be fixed as without prototype scanning mods it's range is in a word: poor.
An increase is needed and we need to push for this change as we have others in the past!
Also: please DEVs for the love of everything in Matar space something needs to be done about vehicles an the mini map, I've been blindsided by tanks so many times now......

Caldari have a scan range bonus as well, so that is 2 of the 4 scouts. They have decreased the bonus per level from 10% to 5% but increased the base scan range from 16 to 20 meters, so it evens out at dropsuit level 5 + range amplification level 5. Also, one complex is a massive boost, run with one if itGÇÖs that important.
Passive scanning and range was/is super important to a scout but I am still getting killed from 60 meters out by a Rail Rifle I didn't even see. With cloak you shouldn't have to worry about crossing open areas anymore. And as far as the minimatar scout goes. Faster hacks and a OHK with knives is an acceptable tradeoff of range. Amarr is going to suck as a scout, but be the stealthiest assault frame out there! |

Unless some special module is fitted, every vehicle should light up the mini-map like the fourth of July. For every suit except the heavy, because the heavies' sensor suite is a busted Atari 2600 with the words "SENZORS" written on it in paint marker.

Yeah, it needs a little buff. I did throw on a complex range mod the other day to deal with some scouts and it was amazing how far away I could see enemies, probably better than my adv scanner. |

The scanning numbers are fine. Even Amarr/Minmatar scouts will be able to reach 43m using one complex range amp and Lvl 5 in the skill, and that's enough for city maps. For more open maps, rely on your own eyes and the cloak. |

Running solo, would it be worth it to scan 37m or 54m on a cal assault scout? Or cloakie, as 37m is enough for indoors

I was upset when I heard of the range nerf for the scouts. They die so easily, and now it will be even easier to see one from further away before they see you on the radar - which kind of makes cloaking absolutely critical, a forced method of gameplay as a scout now as opposed to optional. Even with the cloak, you aren't 100% invisible and you can't stay cloaked forever. T
here aren't enough cqc objectives to warrant a range nerf for the scouts if you ask me. Even now, with my range at 3, and an enhanced range mod, and gallente scout at 4, I still get killed from however far away while hacking because I can't see the enemy on radar right behind me. Scouts have such low HP that even if you give them these 1.8 buffs, the range nerf is not warranted or necesary.

What nerf? There's no nerf. It's going from 16 base -> 20 base in 1.8.
Respec in 1.8 due to huge battlefield role shift for MinLogi!

Interestingly though, the Gallente is the only suit that will have a scan dampening skill, and Caldari has scan precision. At first look, it seems the Caldari would be a "scout killer" class. But since scan precision base on the new suits is 45, and profile dampening is 35. At max level on both suits, a Caldari will not be able to see a Gallente (even if the Gallente is running without a dampener), he would need to run at least one precision enhancer. And as far as spy v spy battles goes I'd rather be under the radar and have to use my eyes, and then have everything show up and be visible as well. Caldari will be the only suit that can get a lower scan rating than the focused scanner though, so that's pretty sweet.
I am having all sorts of ideas what I could do with 4 high slots as a scout, especially since they took away 1/3 of peoples flux grenades.

I didn't hear that they had nerfed the Scan Range Skill. I know that they dropped the Gal Racial bonus to +5% Scan Range per level, and increased base range to 20m. If they didn't touch the skill then Gal Scouts should be getting 37.5m at level 5 Skill/Suit. Which would be a 54m radius with one complex mod.
Basically it's going to be a couple of meters better come 1.8. |
