New players.
With the changes coming in, I feel bad for new players. Their weapons will do even less damage than they do now, however suits will still have the same amount of HP. Therefore making it even harder for new players to get kills.
Is this intended? Is there anything that can be done?

Regardless, proto weapons are also getting nerfed while standard and militia sites stay the same - so even newest of new players will be harder to kill. In fact, complex damage mods are getting a huge nerf, something that definitely helps out the newer players.
Not saying that everything will suddenly be awesome for the new guys, just that it won't be as bad - or at least not any worse. |

Their rifles will do less damage but since the Proto rifles are doing the same damage as the current STD weapons then we'll definitely see them living longer and being able to survive more engagements. This is a good thing for newbies.
Militia Shotgun has gone unchanged.

The forums seem to believe that health stacking is going to be the new cool guy thing rather than damage stacking. This means that the New Players are probably less likely to instantly die and may be able to fight back. If they get the drop on someone, they will probably be able to kill them. If the enemy has 1,200 EHP (from Shields and Armor's Blaster resistance), a Standard Assault Rifle will kill them in 40 rounds. For a Militia weapon, that is 40 of 48 rounds so it is close. At 12.5 rounds a second, it will take 3.2 seconds to kill a Prototype Suit. Before, it would have taken 36 rounds and 2.88 seconds. The change is small for them.
However, the Prototype guy is losing far more damage. Well, he is getting less bonuses than he was before. If he isn't using 2 or 3 Complex damage mods he is no longer getting a 19.56/26.38% less damage. If he is shooting a Frontline Suit that has 150/150 HP, he is basically doing 7.5% from Proficiency because it is only helping against Shields/Armor (not really 7.5% but it is close enough). Basically, with the changes, the damage you gain from SP investment is reduced quite heavily.
With the changes, the New Player might not instantly die if he comes across a Prototype suit because of the Prototype's "reduced damage" but will still kill the Prototype suit in about the same amount of time. |

If you are assuming that you are only fighting Frontline suits, yes. But a Prototype Suit, Weapon, and Proficiency skill will still give you an edge over other players that don't have it. When you are fighting another person that has say 650 EHP (my basic Assault), you would still do more damage then they to you. You might be able to survive if they get the drop on you. You can escape and re-engage.
People said the same thing about tanks when they were changed to have a smaller gap between standard tanks with complex mods and militia tanks. "Why would you ever put points into actually tanking when you can do a militia tank just fine?" Because a tanker that has put points into tanks will utterly crush you like a bug. The militia soma cannot beat my madrugar with the 17 million SP and 'perfect for me' fit 1v1 I have on it barring some truly impressive acumen on their part and poor play on my part.
So is progression worthless? I don't believe so. Just because something only makes you 15% better in the damage department doesn't mean it is worthless. Look at the amount of HP gained with that progression. No one area is overly significant with the progression but everything combined makes you better overall. |

Possibly, possibly not. Gallente Starter fit has a 5pt increase in pg over its Militia counterpart. You would think that would be the other way around if anything.....

My point is that Battlefield 1943, in 2009, was already a vastly better experience as a shooter over everything I have seen in DUST 514, and I still play quite a bit of '43. It just doesn't have DUST's imaginary/real progression that either makes all the difference in the world or none at all, depending on what people need for their argument at the moment, and you can't choose to play dress up in '43, either. Two months in, I said that if '43 had better clanning and some sort of persistent scoring system that affected a larger conflict, DUST would have seemed old as soon as it ahem, released. 10 months later, I know that I was right.

Older players always have had a edge. Having a low TTK allows new players to apply damage rather consistently but that still makes it top heavy for experienced players who have innately better understanding of the game and better suits/modules. I do not see people with new players with STD suits doing any better than they are now only that they are guaranteed to die faster than the proto suit that responds to it.
