*Alternate name: crucifier*
[General idea] Amarr
Heavy weapon
Semi-automatic
High pinpoint hipfire accuracy
No aim-down-sight
High damage
Medium range
Low rate of fire
Heat buildup and overheat
Laser damage profile (+20% damage against shields, -20% damage against armor)
Decent against vehicles
[Preliminary stats (standard tier)] Damage: 190
Rate of fire: 60 rounds per minute (1 per second).
*Alternatively, it could be charge to fire (like forge gun) with 1 second charge time Damage per second: 190 (it fires 1 round per second)
Accuracy rating:
Range (optimal/effective): 50/70 meters
Magazine: 20
Reload speed: 6 seconds
Overheat: after 7 consecutive shots (1,330 damage before overheating, enough to kill most heavies)
Feedback damage: 100
Efficacy all against vehicles: 50% (must also factor damage profile).
[Purpose] A high alpha damage precision marksmen weapon suitable for anti-infantry combat from close to mid-long ranges, and capable dealing similar damage per second as a sniper rifle at close range with hipfire, wile also being semi-effective against vehicles for versatility. The HMG is a great weapon for dealing with infantry at close range, but it is terrible for precision shots, and also terrible at mid-long ranges. The forge gun has amazing range, but the long charge time makes it not ideal for fighting infantry; the large aiming crosshair makes it not quite a precision weapon either. The impaler (or crucifier) would provide heavies with a precision anti-infantry, and mid-long range option they are currently lacking, while also providing them modest anti-vehicle capabilities. The impaler (or crucifer) would allow a heavy to take the role of a good marksmen. he high alpha damage would make it very effective, but the low DPS would keep it from being overpowered.
"Why not just use a scrambler rifle and keep charge shotting?" That would be a recipe for very quick overheat, and the impaler (or crucifier) would do more damage per second. The charge function of the scrambler rifle multiplies damage by 3.5, so a standard fully charged scrambler rifle does 252 damage, but the charge time is 2 seconds, so the damage per second is only 126. The impaler (or crucifier) does 190 damage per second at standard tier, and largely exceeds the damage per second of charge shots. Furthermore, the impaler (or crucifier) could fire 7 shots before overheating and dealing 1,330 damage, while the scrambler rifle would overheat after just 3 consecutive charge shots dealing only 756 damage.
[Appearance] A big long Golden Amarr weapon held similarly like the forge gun or HMG with handle is on the side of the weapon. The weapon envelops the hand of the holder. Visual inspiration: here, here, here, & here

I aprove of this weapon, as the alpha is scary while the low DPS stops it from being OP.
It's just scary

I think I know a few amarrians who would enjoy this. I know I would, but as a caldari I fear it more. This and the arc cannon, this being the anti infantry heavy weapon for the amarr. |

That one is also pretty cool, though I don't think the coilgun is needed since Caldari already have the forge gun, and the Gallente one didn't sound that interesting. The laser cannon idea sounds very fun.

Yeah I realized how sucky the Gallente one sounded after hearing about a Plasma Flamethrower . I'm still attached to the Coil Gun though because the Forge Gun isn't that great as an Anti-Personnel weapon. Sure, one hit kills people but it takes too much of an effort to aim for most and the charge up time can put you in a bad predicament.
Edit: And also thanks lol, the Laser Cannon doesn't sound as bad as I thought but still prefer your weapon in comparison.

I certainly approve of this, if only because impale reminds me of my one true Master, Lord Vader. If they give us the ability to paint job our suits using Aurum, an Amarr Exalt paint job that makes a heavy completely gold, wielding this weapon would make them seem like god on the battlefield.

i like the concept but i think it should have semi lock-on and by that i mean it have a little red circle (or something) and will lock on to a target after .5-.9 seconds (depending on variant / tier) once locked on they stay locked on until you stop locking on or they break line of sight can fire without lock on to lock on you zoom in(doesn't actually zoom in)
when you fire while locked on it will do minor corrections to hit target( no more than 10 degrees)

And now that I read more of it, great concept! But a heavy weapon who's dps is only 190...look I understand that rifles are getting a nerf and infantry combat is just getting a complete makeover but that's a bit low, honestly I would take any rifle over that, at long range when an enemy hasn't seen you yet and they're out of cover it seems like a great weapon but what happens when conditions aren't perfect? pew...pew...pew...in those 3 seconds any other gun will have wiped out all of a heavy's health, meanwhile you did 570, not much on the field that can be killed with that.
I don't know what infantry combat in 1.8 is going to be like so I can't really speculate how well this would fit but yes while the damage over time, per round, per clip, before the overheat, is great and worthy of a heavy weapon... it takes 11 seconds to do that 2000 damage if you land every hit...by a basic HMG this damage could be done in about 2.5-3 seconds and then keep on going, by a forge gun this damage could be done in like 8 seconds tops and still keep going, literally every gun's dps is higher, and several of them have the same range
Double the firing speed and then I'll be interested.
I understand that the numbers don't matter and really results do but if the numbers are that disproportionate you can predict something will go wrong.

I understand that the numbers don't matter and really results do but if the numbers are that disproportionate you can predict something will go wrong. I get your issue with it, but high alpha and high DPS combined together would lead to balance issue. The HMG has really high DPS, but sacrifices a lot of range for it. The impaler concept has very good range compared to the HMG, and very high alpha damage, so I think a DPS tradeoff is fair. I think doubled fire rate would be too much, but I think I would be fine with like 1.5 rounds per second (90 rounds per minute) for 285 DPS if a buff is needed.

I'd still run with my trusty HMG, but this looks pretty good, no real complaints from me. Do you have any concept art of it? I'd love to see some sort of drawing for it. I also created my own weapon concept, the Aether Hive, if you'd like I could draw you some basic concept art, just tell me what you'd want it to look like. :D

Honestly it lacks.....flavor.....a charge.....an overheat....something.....maybe a rather large projectile or beam.....a charge would be nice but that's kind of the scrambler rifles thing.....
1 Maybe it just has one gigantic magazine so it never reloads but if fired too many times it will overheat
2 Or it could charge but instead of increasing the damage of the shot it makes the beam larger...great for swatting pesky lavs as they speed by
Great idea but it needs some spice I'd like an automatic version or idea 2 above

Great idea but it needs some spice I'd like an automatic version or idea 2 above It does have overheat. I don't think it needs a charge, but that would also be cool I suppose. An automatic "assault" variant would be nice.
EDIT: OOH! What if the charge makes burst it fire many rapid consecutive beams! Charge for 3 seconds and it fires 2 beams, charge for 4 seconds and it fires 3 beams.

I think this would be great as an assault variant of a heavy laser cannon. There needs to be one more heavy weapon designed for use against vehicles and which is stronger against shields, complementing the forge gun. It can't be Gallente as their heavy weapon must be mainly for close range. Basically a heavy version of the laser rifle would do the trick. A very long range beam (less range than forge fun) that does more damage as it stays on its target would be very effective against tanks and dropships. It would also be moderately effective against infantry in that it could sweep across whole areas.
It would be hard to keep the reticule on infantry, so it wouldn't be OP against them. Heat build up could be adjusted to make sure it's not OP against vehicles. It would melt vehicle shields but wouldn't be able to take down vehicles too fast due to reduced damage to armor and the need to let it cool down. Finally, firing the beam would reduce mobility, similar to when the forge gun is charged. Plus having a constant heavy beam buzzing from a sleek Amarr heavy weapon would be amazing!
Having an assault variant that functions more as a pulse laser than a beam would make perfect sense. Reduced potential damage and shorter range would be balanced by increased mobility while engaging and slower heat build up. What do you think? |
