Did you aim your reticle to see his stats? Probably was a militia-standard armor tanker. Even a protosuit will die to militia weapons eventually, so this is no biggie. I myself die to militia weapons on my heavy, rather quickly.

You'll find a lot of people having the same problem of adjusting to a new weapon, at which point they are easy prey. Finally to restore my broken pride on the 3rd match I got a logi grafted to my hip amd went 36/5 :) HMGs have now been assimilated into my arsenal. I never ran a heavy suit before! Turned out I had already specced into it a while ago ...I knew this day would soon... hehheheh and it might have been me who killed you with a pistol I WUV PWISTOLS <3 LOL but when I ran my suit some of the oddest things happened. I also died to a scrambler pistol. But the thing is that if you're running a Heavy Frame on the field, whether it be Militia or something else, you're always a prime target. People actually miss, eve with the HMG. - Heavies have a massive head, so it is easy to get the Head Shot bonus. (You only hear the sound if the killing blow was a head shot.) - With the event a lot of people who never played Heavy before are playing Heavies. Some arenGÇÖt that good. Aim at his upper-torso, head area and you may get a kill off. It will take a long time if you don't land critical hits often but it's more than doable. If you use cover, it's even easier because you're blocking their HMG wave of damage. A whole clip sounds about right for a heavy anyway... Considering how low TTK is and how quick much is...I mean you can down most assaults with 1/4th of that or less if you constantly hit. Just yesterday I took out 1 full proto heavy and there logi in about a 10-15 second push as they were preventing us from going anywhere. Rushed out to them, shot some heavy (no kill) and went into hiding. It happened so fast that the proto began to back away and the logi started looking for me(the heavy I shot died from an unknown force as I got an assist out of nowhere). When I realized the logi had started falling back to his heavy I came out of hiding and switched to my SMG to destroy him. The heavy seen his logi die and decided to back himself into a corner so as to not be flanked. But I'm a f***ing psycho so I pounce on him with my MLT SG and destroyed him before he was able to react. No lie...I thought the heavy would get me I continued to flux the path they were using to attack us until some BBs finally showed up to relieve me of duty. What started as a random suicide mission ended in total success I've got plenty of examples were tactics beat gear but don't get me wrong, I also have plenty of examples of gear demolishing tactics. But seriously I managed this with a free medic suit once, just kept running around HMGunner... I must have missed a few shots though because I had to empty my smg as well.
