I finally bumped into a squad mate that I haven't seen in months.
Besides Dust being boring he said he isn't coming back to a game that removes the worth of the skills he pushed to get. Ran as a Heavy, loved it and quit when he had less range than a shotgun. Ah yes, I remember those days. They sucked. Much like the way I am dreading 1.8 and its major fix* for everything that isn't a vehicle. All without refunding SP, at least nothing that has been announced, hinted at nor blogged about.
Here is his last paragraph to me:
Do I regret my time with Dust? I truly donGÇÖt. It was a really cool concept with a few well thought out mechanics. I met several good friends through it and learned many things. What else did I learn? If you ever make a new, interesting game that relies on a long-term investment and loyal customers, try not to screw them over.
* Note that to increase the air flow and thus the vacuum at a point you can restrict it. Odd thing that.
And so it goes.

This is like an art project we get to play in while it grows. Props to CCP for the idea and the iterations and the progress. Its a shame they don't have a way to filter what needs done to make a game better from agenda which pushes the game in a direction that benefits only a few. This is not a problem exclusive to DUST514.
CCP Logibro is awesome.

Wow it actually hurts me to see a heavy go. Maybe when the game gets good he'll pop up again.

I won't dispute that Dust is sometimes boring, but it's F2P, just switch to another game for a while and come back if you start getting bored. I'm playing Farcry 3 and Banished until 1.8 comes out myself.
We don't know one way or another if we are getting an SP refund. Don't count it out just yet.
What heavy weapon has an effective range shorter than a shotgun? Shotguns have an optimal of 5m... 9m at PRO levels, IICR.

How was your friend screwed over exactly? Did he feel that heavies were underpowered in some way? Because as of 1.7 heavies are one of the most effective ways to destroy a HAV and an HMG is a powerhouse of an anti-infantry weapon... 1.8 is bringing the rest of the heavy dropsuits too so there is that to look forward to as a heavy. I think your friend is over exaggerating his frustration a little...

Over a year ago now, I sent people recruit links to Dust and told them they could get passive "experience" even if they weren't playing. I told them I'm let them know when the game cleaned up a bit.
People can play other things. It costs us nothing to keep our accounts active. I don't mean that mediocrity is awesome because of that, but I feel bad for anyone that feels they need to constantly show dedication to Dust even if a build is having large issues. Or rather, I'm mystified that some people appear to do so.
March will see the South Park RPG, Dark Souls 2, and Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes released. That's just me too, I'm sure other people have things coming out they'd like. I'll be playing all of those. I find that issues in Dust are less frustrating if you're not as invested in the day to day.
As far as I'm concerned, it's still in beta, it just got a new producer, and they're going to try to turn it around. That's great. I look forward to the day I can mention to my friends with untouched accounts and 9 million (around there, to-date) sp that the game seems pretty "done" and they should give it a shot.
Dren and Templar equipment stats, wrong since release.

Yup, op, same goes for.my buddy that got me playing this game, he spent a valuable amount.of time only to be "screwed" in his opinion that his heavy broke.
Although I would like the staff recruiter stuff, it's hard to convince people to play the game
And I also agree that that it's still Beta considering content, changes and lack there of. Although there are many games out there that have got the basics right, as in being able to spawn in at base and being "safe" until your u started game play. Yesterday it was spawn in at base 20 ft away from an enemy tank. I really hope 1.8 comes sooner than later so I can at least have less to complain about. |

He has found another game. So ... gone. I have ~25% of the players I used to squad with. And most of them only play a little bit now and then. Versus capping out each week and playing matches to get their 1500SP per battle.
And so it goes.

The only reason I play is because I still have some friends that play. That is the only reason to play Dust, cause everything it is supposed to be is still fundamentally broken. An FPS where guns don't always shoot, has horrible hit detection, significant lag, slow network architecture designed around a point and click space pirate game with the final caveat that they expect you to play for 7 years to fill out the Skill Tree.
So they can yank it out from under you. Fun guys.
Remember that corporate motto is HTFU. Which means Hose The F*ing Users.

SP reset/refund rumors are just hot air until there is an official posted on the web site, not just an IRC comment, nor a Tweet from some random twit. Until then ... it is a waste of bandwidth.
On his frustration being exaggerated: Really? He isn't playing. He has FPSs to play that work.
I love the fact that the most consistent stick with Dust suggestion is to play a different game.
And so it goes.

Not really a selling point when it's in that position only because everything else AV got dropkicked in the jaw.
