Hey people, with 1.8 on the horizon and the much needed buffs to heavy suits and scouts, as well as the changes in logis, I'm wondering where that's going to leave the assault suits going forward. I'm curious as to how competitive the assault suits will be in what I imagine will be a much different meta. I've yet to skill into this character's assault suit due to uncertainty about being competitive post patch.
You'll have the walls of death heavies at the front, invisible assassins at your back, logis keeping them both standing, and commandos doing...... what they do. What will be the assaults role in keeping up and making a difference in the battlefield? (btw, this isn't so "buff this, nerf that" call to arms in the slightest, just wondering about the future. That's all). |

Honestly I still think they'll be UP because of no new slot loadouts.

I know many disagree (especially the SCR users for good reason) but the +% to ROF for the assault suits was promising to me because it meant that the suits would be the best way to keep damage up with the more powerful heavies coming, but with that gone (and the commandos getting the equivalent bonus to damage) it's left me uneasy. |

the RoF bonus was scrapped and replaced by a cpu/pg reduction to light weapons. |

I would have preferred some sort of passive bonus to damage or how shields/ armor reps work etc.
But I'm pretty sure they'll also change Assault more than they have let us know so far.

probialy give them better regen than logis by allot, to make them preferable to getting back in fights quicker.

Assault suits will still be really good. I'm just going to switch my smart heavy for a caldari heavy (for forge gunning), and my minmatar scout for a caldari scout (I hate getting insta killed).

I'm really looking forward to the new generic assault bonus. It'll will be much easier to fit weapons and as an indirect consequence, fit better mods. XD

This.
They need to do a balance pass on the Medium-suit slots to go along with their other changes.
Dren and Templar equipment stats, wrong since release.

Assault suits are getting buffed too. Every suit gets a bonus to weapon fitting which means you can stack more HP or whatever else you want. I also think they are changing the stats around a bit, specifically a buff to minmatar shield delay and recharge. Just speculation based on how they look comparing the stats for the new scouts and heavies.
I'll still be in my min assault regardless. I've suffered through UPness this long anyway. What's another 8 updates. |

Alright, let me throw this question out there to see if I can get a view of the bigger picture.
You're in a caldari or gallente assault suit playing a domination match solo or with a squad, on let's say, line harvest. What's your main course of action for success here? What's the goal?
If I were a sentinel or commando, it would be to hold the fort close to the objective and not allow anyone to pass a certain line.
If I were a scout, it would be to sneak around, destroy important equipment, and take down enemy heavies and ruin their fortification.
If I were logistics, it would be to find a good spot to setup an equipment stronghold and keep our allies and defenses standing.
If I were assault, I would....uhhhh... use the shoot bangs to kill the bad guys. Maybe hack the objective if the logis haven't gotten to it first? Hold the objectives waiting for the heavies to show up? destroy the equipments before I'm discovered and blown to shreds under enemy lines?
Don't get me wrong, I actually like the suits, but I'm not too sure what my role in all of this is would be with a better balanced meta. Would really like to hear some suggestions however. |

I like to think of assualts as being the most versatile. Comfortable HP, good speed, sidearm, equipment... Pretty much good, not great, in a wide range of activities. So to answer you question, you could hang out with the heavies and defend, you could keep up with the scouts and do scouty stuff, you could attack objectives. However, I find assaults are most useful in the middle ground between objectives and adapting to a dynamic battlefield. This is their role IMO. |

Heavies and commandos are too slow to be slayers. They are more defense/fortification. Scouts don't have enough hp. They flank and try to take out important targets. Logis rep, resupply, and revive. Support Assaults are the main dps and main pushers of objectives.
Basically the assault role is to assault objectives and kill

I run amarr assault almost exclusively. The bonus to the SCR makes it WTFBBQPWN at anything <50m.
Of the two other guys I run with regularly; One does armour reps, and codebreakers. I cover while he hacks, and in a firefight, he reps while I pop in and out of cover charge-shotting people
The other is supplemental damage, and scans. Keeps us one setup ahead of our opponents.
Assault, if it has support is awesome. |

Alright, after some more testing and trying different assault styles, Marauder was right and this things is build to zerg if you use it correctly, and I really can't imagine using any other suit. I'm dual tanking my suit to great effect and leading the charge with these tactics. I'm almost positive I'm going to skill into the Assault C-1 but I'm holding off until i see what the bonuses for it will be because I seriously hope it's not still reload speed for rail weapons (the rail rifle's reload is no issue).
A boost to shield extenders was fine, +% rail weapon ROF or a minus to the charge time to the rail weapons would make it so that the Caldari would be it's true masters, etc. Something like what the other races get for their weapons that make the suits worthwhile. In hindsight the bonus cpu/pg for weapons opens up a lot of possibilities for destruction on this build, but I still think there might be better options. |

The assaults do need a base cpu and pg buff thouh....need to fit my two complex regulators with a adv energiser and a std or adv weapon.

The Assault Suit is not (as many say it is) a "Jack of all trades", it-¦s more a "Jack of no trades", which means we don-¦t excel at anything, but do many things badly in comparison to other suits.
Let me elaborate:
Heavy: Rules the CQC fight and his of lack speed means nothing considering he only needs droplinks/CRU/letter/ to attack a location, even use LAV (cheap or free BPO one) to move around, so yeah, Heavy works as an assault too.
Scouts: Fast hacking mean machines, lords of the RE and covert attacks.
Logis: Equipment slots gallore, the center of a succesfull squad.
With the new Heavys and Scouts coming, the Assault role NEEDS benefits that will reflect his role on the field, since slayer/logis and Heavys have taken its spot, thats why depending on the new fixes of 1.8, im not sure either which is the spot of the assault, considering logis assault better, heavys assault better and good scouts sometimes assault even better.
Wish the assault role was clear in this game, but maybe by design we are supposed to be "Jack of no trades", meaning we can do all sort of stuff, but not excel at anything.
