I was playing a couple matches today, and noticed a few things about it. 1. It affects armor about 50% more than it affects shield 2. The combat rifle is notorious for creating this effect-almost every time it happened it was a combat rifle shooting me, though other rifles cause it too, the combat rifle causes it the most 3. After being hit, you are reduced to 50% speed, and cannot jump beyond the jump height of a plate stacked heavy 4. I use kin cats, so it may have something to do with those 5. Anyone can answer, not just CCP. If you know something i don't, please enlighten me about this gameplay mechanic/bug

My personal hypothesis is that it's intended, either to cover up shoddy hit detection or to appease scrubs who would think that shoddy hit detection was to blame for their inaccuracy. One of the two, more likely the first one. I have no concrete data to back this up. |

That's what you're experiencing. Well I don't like it. It is also way to high on the HMG; my Scout runs slower than a walking heavy after getting hit with just one shot.

This, but I'm betting it's a bug and they couldn't fix it so they worked it into the game with a stupid explanation.

The more bullets you are hit with, the stronger the effect. Which is why combat rifle and HMG are kings in that regard.

Just to correct others (I too thought this wrongly before) weapon impulse is just the rag doll effects.
This 'slow down' thing has been around for quite some time. I think it was an intended mechanic for back when hit detection was bad. I agree its horrible for all, especially scouts and I also certainly thing it should be removed from the game.

Yea I thought that too. I don't know when it got so noticeable but it wasn't always that way. Maybe it was because before the AA / hit detection changes - getting bullets on target was more difficult and thus it was only marginally slowing people down.
It has been very noticeable these past few months and I would be very happy if CCP could comment on this, even more happy if they removed this feature.

It's actually something the beta testers had a fairly big conversation about. The entire contents of that conversation were ignored by CCP and they arbitrarily imposed the slowdown mechanic we have now. I remember when i first down loaded the build and eagerly tried it out to see what the new mechanics would be like....i was overwhelmed, tbh, by the cheesiness of it all. And by regret.
In the old forums, CCP definitely heard about it, but we never heard back from CCP. A lot of peeps were eilling to live with it for exactly the reasons Beck mentions - as a stinky, cheesy counterbalance to the stinky, cheesy hit detection.
Hit detection is better(or just covered up with AA?) but we still are saddled with the slowdown mechanics, which bears a lot of responsibility for how clunky and slow the gameplay feels.
If Rouge has and sense at all this will be gone in 1.8.
P.S. The 'Weapon Impulse' mechanic only applies to merc's ragdolls after they'e incapacitated - that's why we get that cool physics when we finish off downed mercs - best effects from a flaylok, imo ;)
I support SP rollover.

I noticed it as a significant effect after 1.7 and it really bugs me. I'm not a fast suit to begin with, and rail rifles hitting me from 80m or more away and slowing me to a crawl is a really ****** effect. I don't see what it adds to the game, but I can see what it takes away. Hope it gets addressed at some point.

It's really frustrating when the rounds are pounding your back and acting like a tractor beam rather than a push.
It completely hoses speed tanking and induces rage. I feel the hand of CCP holding me in place to be killed and it makes me want to slap them in the face. |
