7: SEPCIAL MENTION, do NOT trust ANYONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! seriously aproch every situation like the guy your dealing with has a knife behind his back and plan accordingly.
was gonna mention this. but here's the thing i learned the hard way. you can't be so paranoid and closed off never taking a risk to network with people. it is true they will bait you and blow you up for fun stab you in the back- but it's not worth it to never take a risk. you have to decide how much you want to risk in order to possibly network with other players.
they say: "come to us in your best ship" that's fine because you will have 2 of them in case they blow 1 up.
if they do stab you in the back, say by blowing up your ship, you already decided before hand that that lost ship was what you were putting up for risk, in order to network, and you were already prepared to be stabbed in the back. you have to take risks in order to network.
It is worth to risk something and take a loss, that you can afford, than it is to close yourself off and never trust anyone, because without a corp history, after so long of character age, it makes you suspect to everyone by not having any history with other players at all.
u can ban the troll out of the forums but u can't ban the forums out of the troll.

Just a note on player skill in EVE:
EVE is not a joystick game. You have the control of a Star Ship Captain, not a fighter pilot. Think of Captain Picard directing the Enterprise through a battle. He says where to go and when to fire, but it is the pilot that does the actual flying and the security officer that actually aims.
You can manually fly by clinking in space to get your ship headed in that direction, or you can use commands to maintain a distance between you and another ship, or to orbit a ship or structure at a set distance. Good PVP pilots can gain a great advantage over their opponents by controlling their range and transverse velocity. Making it so their guns hit more and their opponentGÇÖs guns hit less.
So the skill of the player does have a large impact on the outcome of battles in EVE, particularly in small engagements. It is just that it is more tactical than direct.
Think Jean Luc Picard rather than Hans Solo.

Also! I don't think this has been mentioned. DO NOT touch yellow cans! It is a trap! They will jump on you and destroy your ship. |

Pack a toilet. There are a lot of assholes in there that think it's funny to **** wherever their ass is pointed, and YOU will have to clean up after them. They never clean up after themselves.
Prepare to have your head bashed in, and boredom on all sides, because stress is the name of the game, and if you cannot handle it, well there is nothing to do besides being stressed. Many people enjoy that however, which is why they play EVE.

skill only into what the starter missions ask you to do so you get an idea of how things work. they will also supply the skill books for free rather than you buying them.

While some jump into low/null and join a PC right away that play style is not for everyone. My main is still in CAS (Center of Advanced Studies) a Gallente starter corp and she is 2 years old. |

To be fair there is more to do than spread sheets. WHs, exploration, incursions add much needed excitement. My "main alt" on a second account was in an Exhumer/Orca now mining that is boooooooring. She is still around floating in some sort of limbo until I need more ISK for my main. |

Dude you have no idea! Player skill means everything in EVE (Untill you get to huge blob warfare then I agree its just an F1 button mash)
@ the OP
EVE is a huge game, and when you first start it no doubt will be confusing.
Do the tutorial missions, read everything and honestly dont be put off by the fact that things are confusing at first.
If you are looking for PVP and combat, start with the missions and then once you feel comfortable look into a corp called Red Vs Blue.
RvB are a pair of corps that are always at war. This means that you can base in highsec and fight the other side continually. The downside to this is that it means you might get killed even if you are doing PVE in the area.
But yea man give EVE a chance. I played for 3-4 years. It was only because I started playing DUST that I stopped playing EVE. If you have any questions about thing feel free to send me a message in game or come back here on the forums and I will try to help you in any way I can.

Yet another business major projecting the outcome of Eve, can you please tell me what metric data you're using for this? Or are you using your crystal ball? Whole franchise is dead? Can I have your business skills please? Tell me more how you managed a million dollar company that kept it around for the last 10 years? Where did you get your degree from "Internet browsing school"?
Quick CCP! Take note of this when this new game launches you should just stop. Shut down the servers. Turn off all the lights and go home. I mean a new game is coming out! |
