Not just for dropping OBs but also for rallying at an agreed upon location while defending the Logi with the defend order on him. Seems like an easy idea to implement too, and would mean we know where we are.
Grid coordinates would be the easiest to implement immediately - although in its current form pulling up the full map is very risky and too slow given the ebb and flow of combat in DUST.
I think small overlay text naming buildings could have lots of potential but, as always with anything HUD related, we have to be mindful of clutter. But naming of landmarks and buildings would help both new and experienced players better relay directions.
+1

Martyr Saboteur wrote:A good first step to make relaying information quicker and simpler would be to add the other 3 cardinal directions to the compass. Maybe if CCP is feeling fancy enough they would add the intercardinal directions as well.
Very true - I personally think the "N" for North is also a wee bit tiny to see. But I do have terrible vision too...
But yes, adding the other cardinal points would be a quality of life improvement that should be very simple.

Kristoff Atruin wrote:Even just making the north marker larger and always easy to see would be enough. If you add other markers then you have to actually read the marker, rather than knowing at a glance which way is north. If you know north is to your left then you also know that turning 180 degrees will mean you're looking west.
Most games with compass bearings have the North marker unique and much larger - like a very large chevron or triangle, with the other cardinal points being simple small letters.
In our setup, I'd recommend the other cardinal letters at the same font size as the N for North is, then replace the N with a large triangle on the edge of the radar to indicate plainly north. Since we currently see our own bearing on the radar in the middle, that should work.
(To my knowledge, the option to change the bearing on your compass does not exist - i.e., always point north and your image on the radar shows where you are pointing, or radar follows north not you.)
