What if Equipment Level actually affected your equipment? If there isn't a drop in price there should be a leveling system that increases the effectiveness of the equipment such as increasing the amount of nanites per nano by 3% or increasing range of the repair tool by 3%
If nothing else there could be a skill that once you reach level 5 in the equipment unlocking, you could go into "Proficiency" and increase the effectiveness for a high amount of SP. Or a Fitting Optimization like weapons have, since the best true logistic actually has his tools out more than his gun.
This would be an interesting feature and would encourage further development of the role rather than the character wishing to go into another role.
Do not complain if you have never done anything about it.

+1. In general I think (at some point) that every skill needs a passive bonus of some sort. Dead levels acquired purely for the sake of unlocking something are incredibly boring.
Not just a laymen, but the laymen.

I just figure, it would make sense since all equipment is getting a nerf of some sort, and it'd add further development of the role. Logi is a super important role. You can do many things on the field but without a logi your team is boned lol

I think CCP is still working on this - vehicle command at basic levels has the same problem. You're basically sinking sp just to use something.
I imagine they plan for equipment to get skill boosts - personally, with equipment about to get nerfed I wouldn't be surprised if they have this in mind already. Skill bonuses (like speed a nano repairs or the amount of hp an injector gives) would help out a lot, especially soldiers NOT in logi suits.
I should have a reason to increase my injector skill as an assault soldier - not just get it to lvl 1 for the basic injector and stop there. Even a CPU bonus would be nice. It all takes balancing though, of course.

This. SP sinking to just unlock feels wasted and like a gimmick. Considering vehicle sp costs, we're doubly gimped because of how much our choices cost and come with no bonuses. I'd rather vehicles and the gear be a little weaker and have skills that provide meaningful bonuses. Makes for better variety of choosing your skills for one thing. Choices should matter - not be mandatory.
