I'm getting really sick of dealing with bricked RR Gk.0 logis. Playing Dom vs. STB, their whole squad camped out on the hill above the objective with triages hives and the works, you know, standard cookie-cutter 1.7 infantry build. I try flanking with a shotgun scout, get one the first time, then just die repeatedly. I try pushing with a heavy- no dice, can't possibly begin to close the range before getting taken apart, and they can see the null cannon console from 60m away. 1 kill and 7 deaths later, I say screw it and pull out my proto ARR in a damage modded armor tanked triage nanohive packing ADV logi suit. Easy 15 kill streak, would have gone further if the match hadn't ended.
Picture of kills/deaths over time
I don't know how much more ****** balancing I can take. It's partially a map design problem that caters to 50-70m weapon optimals, but also just incredibly bad numerical balancing between tiers. There are two ways to win in Dust: Be massively, massively better than your opponent, or bring a crutch of equal or bigger size to their crutch, or some combination of the two. Dust has become simply a crutch comparison engine.
I don't really have a point here other than "I broke down and pulled out my crutch, and it made me so mad that it worked so well that I had to come post about it on the forums". |

ER-Bullitt wrote:If I know the map you are describing (old manus peak domination??) it is much more than just "partially" map design. Whoever holds that ridge owns the objective/game. Rail Rifle are at their prime in that environment... elevated position, optimal range to target (objective), cover (ducking behind the ridge out of LOS).. plus massive amounts of equipment = gg.
They probably could have done the same thing using mass drivers and lazers if they never lost the ridge top position.
Yeap, that ridge- and to make matters worse, one team (in this case, their team) starts on the ridge side. The funny thing is, they lost by getting cloned thanks to some nice OBs by Death Firm. |

The Robot Devil wrote:I wish they had never put 514 in the title. Every time someone comes on here to spread tears around they call it something514. If they are in the hills killing you then move away from the hills and make them come after you for the kill. I am sure there is some type of proverb somewhere about fighting an uphill battle.
It's a Dom match, they had no need to move out of the hills.
Leadfoot10 wrote:Are you really complaining based on how poor a shotgun is against a coordinated squad holding the high ground in an open map, and how much better you did when you pulled out a ranged weapon?
I think it's absolutely junk map design that a map can invalidate entire playstyles, especially when we're so heavily encouraged to specialize. What if I was a pure shotgun scout?
stlcarlos989 wrote:Lol please hit me up if you want to prove how bad we are lets set up a thunderdome I'll 1v1 anyone in this game. I run solo ambush all the time and put up 18-1 or 20-1 type scores and still lose, then you guys come on the forums and complain and get upset at the players who use protogear and squad up instead of complaing about CCPs lack of player separation. I would love to only play PC matches but thats unrealistic. If there was a mode that required a minimum suit meta level that likely ensured a proto suit and at least ADV weapon thats all I would play until then focus your anger on CCP who decided it was ok to match 20+ million SP veterans against academy graduates.
I'm not saying you're bad, this isn't limited to STB, literally everyone does it. I just used you guys as an example because that's how it happened. Don't take it so personally. My point is, even a random solo NPC corper like me can do significant damage to squadded and voice-commed corp squads when using the 1.7 cookie-cutter build, which just goes to show how poorly balanced this game is, and how reliant many corporations have become on using their FoTM build against scrubs who don't have that build available to them.
@POTHEAD: You're right, tanks would have been the right answer. They make me feel so gross though.
