It's pretty well established that speed tanking is not as viable as just HP/Damage tanking and we've ended up with a field of Min/Max builds along those two parameters.
Setting aside cloaks for the moment.
Is anybody thinking that the scout buff may give rise to scout spam?
I hate to say it but a big chunk of the playerbase is pretty uncreative and unwilling to think outside of the box.
While some things are objectively OP, other trends I see seem to come from nowhere. RE spam for one, Core Locus is still a damn good way to kill mercs, and I remember not long ago it was "Nade spam = Scrub" posts and sigs on the forums, but it seems to have been forgotten. Remotes are still the same aren't they? So what changed? I think many players got killed by them so they started using them in a vain attempt at FotM chasing. I don't think I've been killed by a single core locus since 1.7 dropped.
A buff to scouts could see some of our great and half decent scouts who learnt to play with nerfed suits, really tearing things up, and I'm thinking that may bring over all the FotM chasers. Though maybe it'll still be the sentinel+light we're currently seeing.
This is just a thought that occurred to me though, I'm interested in hearing from some experienced scouts on their thoughts. |

Yes, Scouts will become FOTM in 1.8. So I'd just like to say it now, I was a Scout before it was cool.

Scout may be FOTM in1.8, but heavies will also be FOTM, and Some Logis will stay FOTM.
So... Mostly balanced? We'll have to see what CCP does with assaults.

Personally I think it's going to be the fact that all scouts will be able to avoid ADV scanners without any skills needed (unless it's a Gallente logi scanning). The result will be that the only people capable of "seeing" scouts will be Gal logis with ADV scanners and proto scanners, but since I doubt most people will want to run proto scanners in pubs it will severely limit the number of people who can see them.
If the Caldari scout had matching scan dB (45 in 1.8) vs scout profile dB (35 in 1.8) then they might be able to use their bonus to become some sort of scout hunter suit. However with them having 10 higher scan dB the any scout has base profile dB it makes that idea really difficult to accomplish, even with their bonus. Max skills; Caldari passive scan: 32.7, Non-Gallente scout profile: 31.8 So even with max skills a Caldari scout cannot pick up on another scout without having to equip at least one module. It's bonus to scan precision is a waste.
Personally I would love to see the Caldari scout become a very effective hunter-seeker suit. It would make for an excellent parity to the Gallente scout who is all about not being see. |

Yeah well since running HMG heavy since I began at the start of uprising, I finally decided it was time for a change.
Looked at the other suits and thought... Bollocks to medium suits, might as well play CoD.
So now I've been running Gal scout, it's great. Been getting a lot of use out of my Dren shotgun and scout suit.
Switching between the two on the fly can be disorientating to say the least, but it's really forced me to work on my gungame. |

Good. I look forward to seeing the game outside of being a case of who's tanking the most HP and the most damage mods. If low HP suits can be effective then we actually see variety in this game. |

Caldari passive skills only is 30.375 (45*0.9*0.75). Non-Gal passive skills only is 31.5 (35*0.9.) Gal scouts passive only is 23.625 (35*0.9*0.75.)
The Caldari will be a nice scout hunting suit if you're dedicated, as long as people don't run heavily stealth suits. |

if scout fotm happens (I'm still skeptical) it will be the fastest fotm in history. it'll be over within a week and then all the fotm chasers will cry out on the forums about how they need a respec cause scouts suck and are broken, blah, blah, blah.
on paper scouts are the greatest thing since sliced bread. as a scout, my ADV suit is 160/162hp, my proto is 160/320ish hp. your gal logi is 160/800. what do you honestly think is gonna happen when you halve your ehp? nothing cause you're uber 1337? or will you suck for a very long time trying to get used to having no ehp?
for all of you who answered uber 1337 let me tell you a story. we got 2 respecs around this time last year my first respec was skilling out of my tank and into a gal logi(honest logi not murder logi) and It wasn't my cup of tea, it was painfully slow but had really good armor. I used it for a couple months and got used to having 400-500 armor. the second (optional) respec I used to spec into my current scout suit. the transition wasn't easy, at all, I left the game for a couple months because of the suit. if you look around you can still find a couple threads stating my hatred of the scout suit. over the course of hundreds of games I found my rhythm. (this is the happy ending) practicing and playing for the better part of a year now I think I back to where I was before. I'm still not 15+ in 2 consistently but I've come to the conclusion that scouts aren't slayers and my body count will probably never compete with assaults and murder logis.
if you are skilling into a scout cause it's fotm, save yourself the pain and don't. if honestly want to be a scout, nothing I've said will stop you, welcome to hardmode.

It'll be powerful for people who can utilize the Scout properly and play to its strength and weaknesses. People that are used to EHP tanking with 4 equipment slots wont be able to adapt nearly aswell as they may not be able to work with 300 HP

It's hard for Scouts to be spammed because of their low HP. Heavies, Assaults and Logi's will be able to easily kill any scouts.

Whilst we don't know the full facts of the matter pertaining to how scanners are going to be changed (which is frustrating), I'm pretty sure that they're going to get a functionality nerf that will attempt to reign in the 360-degree spam scanning that we currently have to deal with. So in that respect dampening is getting a potential indirect buff.
However. Look at that gal logi bonus; scanners are going to be exceptionally strong in their hands. My issue with this is that I can foresee scouts being the only viable suit type that can reliably run a damped fit that doesn't sacrifice vast amounts of ehp in order to get under a gal logi scan sweep (simply by virtue of not having ehp to speak of in the first place, along with racial suit bonuses and the effects of an active cloak). So in his respect dampening as viable build across all roles is going to get severely restricted, but at the other end of the spectrum scouts will be virtually undetectable to all but the most powerful scan builds. It'll be a zero-sum game that will leave very little room for creative thinking or unique, viable builds.
Again, though, this is pure conjecture. I really want to see some dev blogs before March.

I think the new heavies will be more likely FoTM. We've had "two" scouts for awhile, and one the two new scouts is speed-gimped to be slower than Minnie Assault with fewer hp and slots. We're getting more heavy suits, relatively speaking, and all the Sentinels will have damage-resist now.
I predict fatties with light weapons will be ever more of a thing, because the heavies will benefit doubly from lengthened TTK and inherent DR. Add to that the lack of heavy weapon variety... and you have a recipe for light weapon toting heavies. Let's not forget that every new Heavy (Min/Cal/Gal) will also be faster than the Amarr heavy.
I'm curious if the charge pistol or rail smg will find a following. It's hard to get a feel for spread, etc. from just looking at a stat sheet.
Dren and Templar equipment stats, wrong since release.

I've been scouting for about 2 months. Gal Shotty/ScP or SMG running uplinks, hacking etc. It's a Dren build so total cost is 2.5k ISK, it makes dying a lot easier to accept when ISK is no longer part of the equation.
I'm certainly not a good scout, but it's a high risk high reward play-style and have managed to pull of/fluke some epic manoeuvres that if montaged together out of context would make me look like the greatest player ever, manoeuvres that I could never do on any other suit.
But yes, it certainly is hard mode, and has really forced me to up my gun-game. Now when I hear squad-mates complain about scouts it's all I can do not to scream at them over comms.
I just wish I'd gotten into it sooner, it's making me a better player. |

Same
I have a feeling that people will be able to tell who the FOTM scouts are.
They won't be very scoutly for the first month or two.
And then they will leave to follow the next FOTM.
And the real scouts will still be there with the suit they have deserved for a long time.
