IGÇÖm not sure how well my opinion will go over, or if anybody will bother to listen to it; however, IGÇÖve been mulling over the idea for some time and would like to share it.
What if there was vehicle logistics roles, and if tanks were balanced around the potential for these to be here? Before we dive deeper, let us first describe what a logistical vehicle would consist of. Currently I see two types of Logi Vehicles, based on past DUST vehicle structures:
-The Logistics LAV (Formerly known as the Murder Taxis) -The Logistics Dropship
As the name implies, the logistical vehicle will be able to provide bonuses such as repair, ammo, and hardening remotely to nearby vehicles. The repair would come in two main variants: Shield and Armor, with sub-variants of those providing differing amounts of repair / hardening . In addition to this a vehicle could provide ammo, serving as a mobile nanohive with a large radius. It could be made to serve both vehicles and infantry, although would benefit infantry less than a nanohive of the same tier would.
These items would go into a special high slot a Logistical Turret. (Which could also fit a regular turret instead) This would allow the logistic vehicles unique turrets without having to worry about other variants or vehicles taking them. (Such as having spider tanking tanksGǪ although talking about that is another discussion) The LLAV would require another person to man the turret (Or have the driver swap seats), while the LDS could function like the ADS with a nose mounted logistical turret, as well as two logistical turrets on the side. Although I claim no expertise on Dropships, so if the nose-mounted repairer is a bad idea, that aspect can be dropped.
This logistical upgrade would come with ADS and HAVs receiving nerfs to repair and hardening modules in both duration and amount. HOWEVER with a Logi-Vehicle on them they could maintain higher repair / hardening than currently possible. Also, as the Logi-Vehicles could have ammo stores on them (that work by being in proximity to the vehicle) the ammo count on vehicles would be reduced.
In effect, a solo operating vehicle would be lowered in effectiveness. (in terms of repair / hardening) With lower ammo counts a solo vehicle would be more dependent on supply depots as well, and able to do less between restocking. However a tank (or more) supported by a Logi-vehicle could in effect tank far better than current tanks, and their ammo stores needing less replacement.
The next point adding these vehicles would serve is that it allows for AV to better combat tanks as you are effectively splitting a tankGÇÖsGǪ errGǪ tank into two. The part that the vehicle provides via modules, and the part provided by the presence of the Logi-Vehicle. These vehicles would be less durable than the tanks they are rolling with (the LLAV even more so) and could easily be taken out by AV, or flanking vehicles. This would require the tanks to be more aware of protecting their logistics, as well as providing additional reasons tanks need to rely upon infantry to prevent enemy infantry and AV from robbing a tank unit of itGÇÖs logistics. (Such as shooting the LLAVGÇÖs gunner)
Used effectively, a vehicle squad with good communications can far exceed the current capabilities of tank gangs. However, it also provides other players to more effectively combat the tanks, and their logis as well. Solo tanks would be effectively nerfed, while still allowing team work to win battles.
TLDR: Logistical vehicle types added (LAV / Dropship). Weak to AV / Infantry. Without Logis tanks are weaker than currently. With them they are stronger than currently. |
