Operation Mauler is a good idea but allow me some constructive criticism. It seems we've taken a step back in the "play time-to-reward" ratio with this event. A big concern for Triple SP Week was that the multiplier for play wasn't high enough and it significantly increased the amount of time spent playing if you wanted the benefits.
It seems as though we've backtracked to that in a way with this event with 500 additional SP for every kill with an HMG/Forge Gun and 250 additional SP for a heavy kill. Now, apart from having a notepad handy with a leaf chart showing Kills and Confirmed Heavy Kills, it seems the amount of time investment necessary is MUCH higher than one would see than previous events.
To give an idea of what that's like for everyone, that's 3000 heavy kills with anything besides light weaponry, 1,500 kills with heavy weapons or 1,000 heavy kills with heavy weapons
This is something that is going to take a -very- long time. Eight kills with heavy weaponry a game (spitball average) that's about 190 matches. That's 48 hours of Ambush matches spread out over two weeks, which is a lot to ask out of a gamer. There are pros as the player activity goes up and certain behavior is encouraged but we also have to consider the cons which include burn out and a lot of the game's overarching issues become more apparent.
Another thing is that it's focusing on a particular specialization that not everyone uses, so it's either drop some SP into Heavies to run them (there are no militia HMGs afterall) as a jumpstart to a larger investment or grind out the 3000 kills otherwise which is an exceptionally long time when you consider that not all of the players on the other team are going to be running heavies.
TL;DR - Bonus SP is great but this shouldn't turn Dust 514 into a second job. Or third, if you play Eve Online. Too much time for too little reward.

Use a MLT Amarr Heavy Frame with Republic HMG. No SP necessary.
True but that also goes into Faction Warfare, which is going to add a lot of wait time in between matches and you're more likely to lose more heavies than you can afford to buy (the HMG that is)

Like all things in Dust 514, it's amazing how hard it is to appeal to the entire player-base isn't it

Seriously, is your goal in this game to earn every single skill point possible? That's not what these events are about...it's just an incentive to use a certian playstyle, or a bonus for doing certain things. It's at such a high amount so that players that are hardcore players can earn bonus sp the entire time. You don't have to hit a certain amount.
You'd be silly not to! 750,000 SP what with 1.8 racial parity right around the corner? (Reference point: It's 2,000,000+ to Proto out a dropsuit. The 750,000 SP will go a long way to reducing that blow)

Hey, I get it right sometimes We really should squad up sometime and discuss, yanno?

I just play my game and let it be. This is one of those events where not having a stat tracker is going to cut me short of the full bonus because I have no way to know how far I've gone, and thusly won't put forth the time and effort to achieve all of the outlined goals. I could play all week and insure completion, but that's not going to happen. If you only play as Heavy you can watch your kill count on the Weekly Leader Board. You have to discount the ones you kill with your sidearm, grenades, or Warbarge Strikes, etc, but if you are a dedicated Heavy most of your kills will count. It will not tell you how many Heavy kills you get for the extra 250, but it will give you a ballpark figure to work from. Also, I am still a big fan of your Corp name.
I deleted all of my fits and made a few new ones that don't have grenades/sidearms. I also don't run squad lead. However, I did manage to accidentally kill someone with the LAV I was driving to close the distance. Was kinda sad about that actually.

Aero Yassavi wrote:I respectfully disagree. Here's why
1) Yes it will take 1500 kills with heavy weapons to hit the cap (do note you have an error, killing a heavy with a heavy weapon is not combined 500 SP + 250 SP, it is just 500 SP), but you have two weeks to do this keep in mind.
2) You do not have to hit this event cap to benefit from it.
3) Let's say you get 10 HMG kills per match, that is 5000 SP extra per match. That is almost like a pure double SP event.
4) The potential SP possible from this event is 750k. Divide that over two weeks, it is 375k SP per week. If you cap the event, that is like two straight weeks of triple SP.
5) You only need to average 107 kills per day to cap the event
There's a few things to complain about this event, like the only viable heavy weapon to hit the cap is the HMG and general lack of heavy weapons and dropsuits, but I don't see any way you can complain about how they are handling the SP. In the past we've had double SP events but it'd only double your WP, so if you averaged 1000 WP a match you'd only get 1000 bonus SP. With this event if you average 10 kills you get 5000 bonus SP. I don't see how this is a step backwards.

Then I don't think you fully understand the midset of eve players. (They are all about every single last SP.) And damn right too! I'm not sure if I would pick fault like Aeon has however I do sort of see his point. As for the guy near the beginning of the thread name calling with "Entitled brat". That is one of the biggest things that puts me off about this forum. Its great when we all discuss stuff but so many people are just down right rude on here. You don't even know these other people that you interact with on the forum. Show a modicum of respect! (Do they only teach respect in England or something these days?)
And people wonder why CCP/CPM isn't active on the forums

That's right, a 30M+ SP HMG virgin. So I cooked up a quick fit: Dren Sentinel High: 1 complex damage mod. Low: 1 enhanced plate, 1 proto ferroscae plate HW: basic AUR HMG (rather than spending the SP) LW: toxin AR Nade: M-1 Locus EZ mode in enclosed spaces. People melt. Light suits sometimes by simply passing the spray across them. Grenades? lol Other heavies are your primary concern. Being caught in the open by a ranged weapon is problematic (solution:BPO LAV), but that darn SMG is remarkably powerful out to about 40m or so it seems. Of the assault rifles, CR got me more than AR or RR. KDR was about 4 -- higher than my typical CalLogi ARR suit. My KDR was higher when I got logi love, lower when I was abandoned or too slow to keep up. Got pounded one round by a trio of quality corp squads -- I think I died 16 times that round (dwater probably got half of them, lol)....the highest in several months....and I still about broke even ISK-wise and.... I had a blast! Never knew you fatties had it so good. The Dren Sentinel has a light and heavy slot? Impressive.
If that's true it's certainly an example of pay-to-win.

Cinder Integ wrote:Not trying to brag, because nostop playing is nothing to brag about... I believe I was the first to finish the event.
I started Wednesday playing about 8 hours a day. I didn't count kills against heavies, and tallied up all heavy weapon kills on an excel spreadsheet. It was a grind, but I didn't mind it because I would have been playing anyways.
Givin that there was 2 weeks to finish this event, I wouldn't personally complain that it would be that hard to complete for most players. Also, extra sp for an event that you don't need to participate in is not worth complaining about, and I would rather take 24 hours of play time and get 750,000 sp than take 12 hours and get 400 suits and 200 Nova Knifes that I could buy with this inflated economy's isk.
Well sure, if anyone's complaining. Constructive criticism =/= Complaining. Seriously, think everyone's getting a little ridiculous with the "no-ones putting a gun to your head" routine. It's a competitive game and you'd be stupid not to try and get the bonus SP for that competitive edge, especially with 1.8 releasing racial parity for both Heavies and Scouts, changing up skill bonuses, etc. Having an additional 750,000 SP to spec into something else when so much is being changed and they haven't -officially- announced that there is going to be a respec is something you'd be insane to ignore.
Let's be fair, no-one is forcing a player to play the game and get the bonus SP... Then again, no-one is forcing them to go to work or school either. No-one is putting a gun to your head and saying, you -HAVE- to go to work. But it's nice to have money. Much like it's nice to have bonus SP.
See what I'm getting at here?
