Why don't more bluedots deploy uplinks? How many of you have been in games where your uplinks get taken out, you die, go to spawn, oh look no uplinks!

I picked up on how important equipment like this was almost immediately. Where these players are coming from and why they don't get how important uplinks can be is beyond me. As a new player, you should be able to play for a half hour and realize this is an important thing to do. I think people just want to fit one thing and nothing else ever.
This game is more akin to TF2, where you have different niches each suit and weapons fit in. You change your suit to fit the situation you will be facing. I feel people expect it to be like COD where you usually pick your favorite load out and then you run that forever. |

Because Uplinks are insanely hard to fit... I use Stable Proto Uplinks. Thats 900k SP + 4m SP invested into Uplinks and Engineering & Electronics to fit. Its worth it in the end, but you can't expect bluedots to have that.
Uplinks are the most important thing in this game, they win/lose matches. Its very befitting that they don't get used easily.

^^ This, and FW takes too long. Pub matches are the least serious of all contract types and have a good mix of players (different corps, experience levels, gear, etc.), so they're more fun, too. Less cereal = more fun.
But the uplinks, man! I agree that it's absoflippinglutely annoying when I am the only one dropping them, especially when I go out of my way to deploy an uplink in a centralized, out-of-reach spot (eg, that little roof area above the second story bridge that connects the A and B objectives in that city complex with the two tower/bridge thingies on its outside perimeter--sorry, don't know the name of the structure/map) only to have it gone when I actually need to use it. It's like, "What, no one decided it would be a good idea to keep hold if this spot via the simple action of dropping another uplink?"
It's also a bummer when you spawn at what looks like a well-placed uplink, only to find it camped. If I get killed when dropping an uplink, I redeploy ASAP (usually from the MCC) and drop another uplink immediately, so my team isn't spawning into a trap.

Thats a good question. Another is, why does some moron ALWAYS throw a link down at the initial spawn point in an ambush. If thats not beging to be spawn pinned, I don't know what is.

Really blues, come on man!!! Some peeps figure this out for themselves right away, some peeps are too busy getting stomped into a pulp and trying to figure out how the hell the skill system works and where to buy skill books, let alone change suit fittings, if they even know that they can change suit fittings.
CCP has made the intro to this game an obtuse and difficult intelligence test. I'm personally fine with that because i like puzzles, beating my head against the wall, getting stomped and hard uphill climbs.
All i can say to your question, OP, is that a little touchy-feely walkthrough with some quality content goes a long, long way.
I support SP rollover.

People are assholes or they're just playing "casually."
I hate "casuals" more than assholes. Assholes are stingy for a reason or another. "Casuals," and not actual players who only play for a certain time and/or treat Dust as a casual experience, are the people who don't give a damn about the game but are just dicking around.
They ignore points or don't assist on the battlefield other than killing because they're lazy and believe others will do it. You can't argue with them...They'll just call you a try-hard or whatever and keep doing what they're doing.

I'm frustrated by this at the end of the week (when I've already capped SP) and delighted at the beginning of the week (where I'll bring in my Dren logi with a bunch of uplinks). Seriously though, uplink placement (both volume and proper location) is something that everyone can help with.

Understand what your saying , OP. Once you reach a certain level of sp, a merc should have atleast one fitting with uplinks, especially the lonewolves. Don't count on the other guy, take some initiative. Squads might have logi just for that. Can't blame the newer guys though, they have to fit whatever they can to be competitive. Having uplinks may be a luxury they can't afford.

Basic militia link placed somewhere 40-50 meters away from an objective gets people back in the burn zone quicker with the real uplinks.

Big problem is this isn't a lone wolf game, its a team objective game. Even when you aren't in a squad, you can still do a whole lot. Place uplinks, defend points, capture points, capture turrets, place hives. Lone wolf implies you are doing nothing but hunting and killing players. This is probably the least effective way to win a game. If you want to just kill people then Dust isn't the game for you. I wonder why the Ambush game type even exists honestly. |

Every one can fit a basic uplink on a basic suit, hell use a starter fit to keep it cheap!!! Those one or two links will help your team and probably give you an extra 300 wp= more iskies at the end of the match!!! Starter fit, basic link, dirt cheap, pure profit.

1. They're likely focused on either their core upgrades (shields/armor/etc.) or they're trying to move up tiers for weapons/suits. Basically, they're just trying to survive out there.
2. They don't realize how uplinks are an incredibly easy way of racking up points with little/no effort.
3. I'm willing to bet that most would run with nanohives if given the choice.
I was in the first category for the first several months of playing. Now I have a scout suit equipped with two cardiac regulators and stable uplinks, which I use as my default suit to try and get to the nearest/most important objective as quick as I can while placing the uplinks close enough for teammates to spawn and reclaim a node if hacked.
I understand that many of the vets on here are openly hostile towards new/solo players, but please remember that CCP has done absolutely nothing to help prepare them for the roving deathsquads that litter all game modes.
Life is killing me.

Think you misunderstood me. Was stating a lonewolf or solo player, should still be a teamplayer by carrying uplinks if they can afford it. The last thing anyone, who has seen me play, would call me, is a slayer. My kdr is crap, but I'm usually top 5 in matches because of uplinks, hacking, and defending objectives. Also use a mic to call out enemy movements. Maybe a solo player at the moment, but the team always comes first.

I'm not hostile, just venting.

I'm quite frankly fine with these types of newbies. Sure, getting on a team that doesn't know how to throw down uplinks usually means defeat, but it also means something else when I use them myself...
Team Spawn +25
Team Spawn +25
Team Spawn +25
Team Spawn +25
Team Spawn +25
Team Spawn +25
Team Spawn +25
Etc, etc, etc...
I get massive warpoints when no one else are using uplinks, and all I've got is basic and militia on an advanced amarr logi that costs 24k isk. So, continue on, newbies, keep getting me warpoints by spawning and dying endlessly. It's all good.
Sometimes I miss never seeing tanks in a battle... then I remember the mystical flying soma, and I can't help but smile.
