Let me start by saying that I and most of the community (I believe) agree that kill cams are a terrible idea. It gives away valuable tactical information to the victim they didn't earn.
My proposal is to have the kill cam footage saved to the server for each battle. In the end-of-match screen, the killer (not the victim--a key point) will have access to the footage of all of his kills. They can review them and save up to a total of x amount on the server (to limit server space). They can mail the clips to their victims, or friends, post links in chat, or post them in their bio. This would be a way for DUST to implement killmails in a fun and interesting way. They can be used to teach, taunt, or just show off what a badass you think you are.
Snipe that guy in mid-air as he's jumping from the MCC? You have proof, and a funny clip to share with friends.
This could also be used in conjunction with a bounty system. Put a bounty on someone and you get to see every kill your bounty payment paid for.
This would probably require significant server-side resources to store all of that data, and there is so much more important stuff to work on, but if CCP ever gets around to doing DUST killmails, then they should consider adding the kill cam footage for the killer.
Best PvE idea ever!

Post a +1 if you agree.
If you disagree, I'd be interested to hear why.

Very good suggestion. Maybe it will take the video-capturing hardware of the PS4 to make this happen, but they should definitely look into "video-killmail". This would be a very unique feature for Dust to have. |

It would be cool but I'm concerned with technical issues, mostly server space. Then again I know very little about this. |

The biggest problem would be in getting the game to GÇ£recordGÇ¥ every time you are about to get a kill. The only way to resolve this is to record a video of every single player's entire match which will then automatically edit a set time before and after you got a kill.
Perhaps another solution could lie in having the game begin recording when it looks like you might get a kill, so within a certain range of an enemy perhaps or dealing damage? I don't know but it's a fantastic idea. |

I'm thinking the server records the position of the players/vehicles/objects etc. and the various stats. It could then re-render the scene from that data on the fly without having to store it as video. I could be very wrong about this though. Anyone know how kill cams are usually implemented in code?

It could then re-render the scene from that data on demand without having to store it as video by plugging the data points into the game engine. I could be very wrong about this though. Anyone know how kill cams are usually implemented in code?
I would guess that the game stores the last ~5-10 seconds of gameplay footage for each player, and sticks it somewhere more permanent whenever you get a kill. The other thing is that kill-cams in many games, i.e. COD, don't stick around after the respawn screen, so they don't really have to deal with storing it for very long. I've never actually implemented something like this, but that's how I would to it to minimize memory usage. |

Are they saving the data as video, or capturing the battlefield data, and re-rendering the scene? I'm pretty sure the server already logs a ton of data to catch cheaters, find bugs, and run statistical analysis that can be used to tweak balance and other gameplay issues.

Look at Halo for an example of how it could be done. It seems obvious that the theatre mode captures data and re-renders it as you are capable of free flight as the camera and the files themselves are not too large. CCP might be able to pull this off given their track record of making complex stuff (merging Dust and EVE). |

I, for one, do not enjoy the prospect of Thales snipers sending me recordings of their cowardice.
However, I'd love to have a circle on the map screen around my corpse. The circle would indicate the range at which I was shot, which means that my killer was somewhere on its outline. Because we already have the distance indicator on the killscreen, but it's kind of hard to gauge distances on the map. |

I Would LOVE the ability when sitting in the map menu to click a mercenary and open a camera view on them...
This would allow Last Clone Standing Game modes to be epic... also awesome learning tools for some trying to learn little tricks from seasoned veterans while waiting for the game end. And ability to root for your team and create memorable moments in DUST.
Kill cams with this feature would just stop your forum whining and start to help players accept deaths and learn from them... getting them off your case and improving your DUST's player learning curve without any pre-thought out structure just a new great feature. |

that would require on the ingame leaderboard (up on dpad) and before the match starts in the warbarge they have a bounty symbol next to their name showing the other team (or friendly team in factional) this is a bounty target.
aim at them in match and under suit info it tells how much the bounty is per kill |

CCP has already stated they record all inputs such that they can replay a battle and watch it from any vantage point.
They aren't recording video, but rather the player input streams and rebuild the video from those streams. So all you would need is the resources to recreate that section of the match. |
