The biggest problem would be in getting the game to GÇ£recordGÇ¥ every time you are about to get a kill. The only way to resolve this is to record a video of every single player's entire match which will then automatically edit a set time before and after you got a kill.
Perhaps another solution could lie in having the game begin recording when it looks like you might get a kill, so within a certain range of an enemy perhaps or dealing damage? I don't know but it's a fantastic idea. |

I don't know but it's a fantastic idea. I'm guessing this is a solved problem. Other games have kill cams right? I'm thinking the server records the position of the players/vehicles/objects etc. and the various stats. It would delete all data that is outside the field of view. It could then re-render the scene from that data on demand without having to store it as video by plugging the data points into the game engine. I could be very wrong about this though. Anyone know how kill cams are usually implemented in code? I would guess that the game stores the last ~5-10 seconds of gameplay footage for each player, and sticks it somewhere more permanent whenever you get a kill. The other thing is that kill-cams in many games, i.e. COD, don't stick around after the respawn screen, so they don't really have to deal with storing it for very long. I've never actually implemented something like this, but that's how I would to it to minimize memory usage. Is this on the client, or the server? Are they saving the data as video, or capturing the battlefield data, and re-rendering the scene? I'm pretty sure the server already logs a ton of data to catch cheaters, find bugs, and run statistical analysis that can be used to tweak balance and other gameplay issues. Look at Halo for an example of how it could be done. It seems obvious that the theatre mode captures data and re-renders it as you are capable of free flight as the camera and the files themselves are not too large. CCP might be able to pull this off given their track record of making complex stuff (merging Dust and EVE). |

Under my proposal, you could put a bounty on their heads and enjoy watching them die over and over until the ISK on your bounty was exhausted. Fun for everyone. This x 1,000,000 |
