We, the solo players of dust, the vast majority of the playerbase, the silent majority, suffer:
1) -20% WP (SP if you don't cap) just because...
2) Placing in half or more finished battles (mostly on the loosing side)
3) death by orbitals, but no orbitals for us
4) Much higher risk/reward
5) Incredibly harder to come by kills (most of the time outnumbered)
6) Way higher stomp ratios
Please CCP make a Solo portion of your game. Look at the numbers of players in your NPC corps (tal-romon for example has 85,000 mercs). We make up the vast majority of your game, we endure impossible odds, we deal having to fight outnumber at all times, we deal with q-synced Nyan San just shitting all over your game.
We also outnumber people in player corporations 100 to 1.
Throw us a bone.

85,000? wat?
Yeah, I did this with a few people. Here is how:
Add NPC corp merc to your contacts, then look at friends corporations ( I forget which tab it is). I tried out two different NPC corporations. Both corporations had over 80,000 members (different numbers though) and were both amarrian.
Basically, wheny ou see the numbers, the amount of peopel who must have tried out this game is mindblowing.
Whay do they all quit? Because if you are not in a squad, the entire games is 100% stacked against you. I am not sure if this "crap on your customers" approach is a new idea, but it sure doesn't seem to be working with dust.

Anyway, either a mode which is squad free, or some NPE.
The squad free mode would be awesome. Basically everyone who is complaining about "proto-stomping" is complaining about squads, not their gear. Squads would still destroy them with militia gear. 5 vs 1 is still bullshit anyway you slice it.

your not outnumbered. its 16 v 16
If your fighting in a game with uneven numbers / imbalanced teams then just hide in the redline until the match is over.
You can also leave a battle, and that's a fair option, but personally I prefer not to put another solo player in my place. I also think its better making the game as boring as possible to the stacked / q synced team on the other side.
Also bear in mind the numbers in the NPC corps are mostly alts gathering passive SP and abandoned characters

I am making a guess that at least a non-insignificant portion... hell lets say only 1/2 of the corp, don't squad/are alts. I am assuming that most of the corps are filled with players who tried dust, got stomped, left dust.

This - I use to solo most of the time because of time constraints and you can spend half the time you have waiting for people to return from AFK etc. Though solo, you can spend 2mins queuing, and maybe 5mins actually in game - which is including the time you spend spawning at a camped CRUs/uplinks. If I play 10 games solo, I can generally expect my system will crash at least once, because while the game is trying to deploy me our MCC is destroyed...
So pretty much guaranteeing that doesn't happen is one my top 5 reasons for squadding now.

As far as the Risk/Reward System goes, solo players do take a larger risk overall but get less in the way of rewards for doing so. Maybe compensate that with a higher ISK payout, or a better salvage rate or something. It doesn't have to be a large compensation, just something that at least acknowledges the higher risk. |

I play solo and in squads about equal amounts, and thought I'd pitch in here.
I agree (1) is a bit stupid. Shouldn't teamwork be it's own reward? Why does it need an artificial WP boost?
(2) Probably the worst thing about going solo. You're definitely more at risk of getting stuck in an unwinnable half-finished (or worse) game.
(3) Agree, WP should be pooled across 'no squad' players, and OBs given to the no-squad player with most WPs. That way an OB might actually turn a close game rather than just add insult to pubstomp injury.
(4) Higher risk, not sure about higher rewards though?
(5) I kind of disagree on this one. Most of my big (40+) scores have been when solo or in a two or three man squad. If you play with a full squad of decent players they steal half your kills
(6) Obviously...
I don't think a solo mode is the solution. That's contrary to what CCP is trying to achieve, which is a game with a social side that keeps people there - basically facebook but with shooting people in the face.
PS - 95%+ of those NPC corp players don't play anymore or are unused alts. I have about a dozen alts I don't use sat in NPC corps, and only one character in a real corp. The NPC players who do play at all generally play less, and are much less likely to stick with the game or buy boosters than player corp players. Even so, the NPC corp players are the future of the game, so CCP should give them a little more love, basically by giving fewer nonsensical bonuses to squads. |

I also run solo most of the time, and no offence, but this sounds ridiculous. If your running solo then 90% of the time your not a squad lead so you have no 'authority', your just a regular clone. Chances are you won't even have the communications to give coordinates to the pilot in space.

I think the obvious answer is to dump anyone that is not allocated to a squad during deployment/beginning of the game, into a squad. And , also have it kick you out of the squad at the end of a match if you came into the game w/o a squad. That way your always on a fresh squad. |

Choosing to run lone wolf means you are choosing to give up the benefits given to a squad. There are many successful solo mercenaries that "win" by whatever metric is important to them, whether that is KDR, WP or just plain winning matches. Personally, my metric is to hold an objective for an entire match so that my team can focus on the others and I'm very capable at it. Even without the 20% bonus I can place in the top few spots of a match.
Zyrus Amalomyn wrote:This is not a solo game. Stop trying to make it a COD clone, it's already near enough that I quit months ago.
This statement is wrong. PC is a group game mode. The rest give you a choice. Even the description for public matches mentions solo mercenaries. I solo half the time and when I do squad up it's usually with just one other person. We choose to keep to ourselves because of all the reasons mentioned by others in this thread. We don't do PC because it's not worth it to us.

It sort of worked this way at one point but they removed it because it was annoying. Either the player wanted to be solo and had to leave that squad at the beginning of every match or the people that stayed were not on comms and didn't operate as a squad anyway.
