I really don-¦t know why CCP has not done this from the beginning as it-¦s pretty obvious:
Railguns have the best range and lowest DPS of all turrets, "Tactical" weapons have the best range and (should) have the lowest DPS
Gallente Assault Rifles should have the "Breach" weapon variant as standard
Blasters have the best DPS and the worst range "Breach" weapons(should) have the best DPS and the worst range
The now remaining "Assault" weapon variant should be the Amarr standard variant
Pulse Lasers are the perfect middle ground between range and DPS and are the best for sustained combat "Assault" weapons are the middle ground and have the highest fire time per mag
To complete the set and for all curious why I-¦m fine with Minmatar and "Burst"
Autocannons have the highest RoF and best Falloff range "Burst" weapons have the highest RoF and are very good beyond their optimal range
Those shoulds are actually how they were in closed BETA but got completely buffed and nerfed because of some CoD crybabies who wanted them to be like their weapons. The tactical ar originally had a lower damage(like it is now still with the sniper rifle) and the breach had a higher DPS and it should be like this again.

A detailed look at dust in general will tell you that, while not entirely true, CCP took the warfare ideas for each race and threw them out the window.
Ex: Nova knives - Facilitates Gallente style play (CQC with modest ROF and high damage) that is made by the Caldari, uses Gallente tech (plasma), and the Minmatar get a bonus to it (Minmatar scout).
OR
Repair too - Used for on the go repairs. Supports skirmish style armor combat (Gallente), developed by the Minmatar, and the Minmatar gets a bonus to it (Minmatar, when then do repairs, focus on shield boosting not armor reps)
OR
Triage Nanohives - Deployable equipment that restores armor. Lends to a "stand-and-deliver", armor focus play style (Amarr) but it a Caldari equipment (who shield tank).
OR
The Caldari Scout - has the most shields of any scout and the best shield regeneration. The Caldari focus on buffer tanking (lots of shields) where as the Minmatar do shield regeneration, yet the Caldari scout has both attributes. Poor Minmatar. |

All your examples are just outlining the problem of mising racial parity which will get fixed over this year. Knives are actually better for Hit-¦n-¦Run tactics. If you stay, you die. And the reason the Caldari Scout has the best shield regen is simple: Good regen by race + good regen by role. The good regen by race comes from the lack of any active ways to regen shield unlike armor with repairers. Once we get shield transporters and active mods they will loose this.

Allround weapons are like assault rifles in real life. I just didn-¦t use this term as it would lead to misunderstandings. They are just weapons that have no real role. They are not as good as machine guns at suppressing, they don-¦t have a stopping power as shotguns and are not as good as taking out distanced targets as sniper rifles but they can work quite okay in most roles.

I made a similar post awhile back, but had the Burst attached to the Amarr, and the Assault attached to the Minmatar.
But yes, I agree that the current dynamic seems off. |

Games aren't real life. All around weapons kill diversity and depth. There should be no generalist weapons in Dust. The current one's need to be reworked so that they, too, are niche weapons.
Just to add a little more detail : Generalist weapons can not be properly balanced with niche weapons. A generalist weapon ends up either being OP, or worthless. If it's worthless, then it might as well not exist. If it's OP then all other weapons might as well not exist. Either way, it's a fail. This has been a primary balancing issue in Dust since the start. Generalist weapons are bad for gameplay and depth. |

Let's say it like this: Weapons with optimal ranges between 30-50 meters and effective ranges of 60-90 that have a good accuracy at the first shot but worse than sniper rifles, bad accuracy at full auto but worse than maschine guns, lower rof than pdws and less stopping power than a shotgun. Simply weapons for most situations.
