So im playing a game, lots of tanks and RR wielding heavy's. About 5 tanks in game and I manage to find the one thats by its lonesome at the back of the map.
And I think, "this is my chance!"
I get out my remotes, run up to the side of the tank. But oh no's he must have seen me coming! Starts shooting at me and takes out my shields (keep in mind I'm a Minmatar piece of paper). But I'm faster that him, he's going backwards up a hill and i have my core sprint up 5%!
This is where the interesting thing happens.
Knowing he cant escape me and my remotes, a heavy jumps out and starts shooting me with his PROTO RAIL. I have 200ish armour and i still manage to take him out down to 20% of his. Fearing id kill him, he quickly jumps back into his tank and finishes me off.
And I'm looking at the kill feed thinking WTH!? How many crutches does one person need? I get past his blaster maddy, I take out a superior tanked suit with a superior weapon and he just jumps, no "ports" back into his tank to finish the job!
Most annoying thing is he probably thinks he amazing..

Ah, HAV pilots.
Not only do they have to be in a giant crutch, they have to abuse terrible mechanics and use infantry crutches as well.

Haha that tanker did not want to die. Similar thing happened to me while i was forge gunning close range, guy jumped out and started shredding me with a combat rifle while i was charging, i was aiming for his tank and he got in the way of the forge blast.
I got lucky that one time. |

Nope, but he's smart. You could have done the same thing but didn't. Blame CCP. Some ppl are going to use the best combo they can to win. This is why this game is silly at best.
Why is it always a crutch when the other guy beats you with something? Isn't that called a stick?

From what I can see, you were probably running a Scout suit, and you got spotted to early while trying to go solo against a tank with REs that require practically melee range, took some damage, then saw the guy ditch his tank, and DIDN'T get an opportunity to get close, but didn't think to back off instead of fighting him, and you were SURPRISED when he turned back to his tank after almost getting killed?
Sounds like intelligent play to me. Yes, intelligent play with abuse of hard-to-counter game mechanics, but he used them sensibly.
Remember: People who rely on a crutch to win are the people who fall when it's knocked out from under them. Watch what that player does in 1.8, and whatever comes next, when that RE Scout isn't so easy to see coming, because he's cloaked. If he still finds a way to beat you, he wasn't using a crutch.

oh and dont forget OP once you do all that and you take his armor down to a sliver he then "rockets" off some where and recalls his tank brings in the same tank fit ...... all brand new.

That's the biggest thing I hate in this game at the moment, even more than tanks are fatsuits with RRs. Biggest crutch for players with a poor gun game there is.

That is what I refer to as a Weekend tanker...
A real tanker doesnt get backed into a wall, or really even have a backup weapon in there generally. All skill points invested in the war machine under them. The tank itself isnt much of a crutch considering you can sneak around them alot of the time and just completely ignore them...Though I think the militia tanks need to go. I personally dont see the problem with tanks...

So, what isn't considered a crutch? You could even call squadding up a crutch since a lot of guys cant win one on ones. Play the GAME as you want and don't worry what the next guy uses to have FUN.

I used to be an HAV driver.
a long time ago. Even then, I knew most tankers were cancer but that can be said about 80% of the forum community. Tankers are just the most ridiculous worse than the Constant Orbital Striker defenders = arguably worse than Hitlor. |

OP made it sound like a Scout, but he's posted since that it was an Assault suit.
Even so, a competent player wouldn't have come so close to death with heavy/RR/HAV backing him up. |

That's not necessarily smart. The smart thing to do would be play the game in a fair way that is challenging for all players. Not just utilize sure-fire, stonewall tactics that ruin game for everyone and ultimately drive away the player base you need in order to continue playing.
Imagine you always won at poker. If everyone knew about you, no on would play with you. The only difference is that would be impressive, where as this is just people exploiting BS tactics made by a game company that has no clue wtf they are doing with this FPS. I blame CCP and the players that continue to use these tactics.

When was this game ever balanced? lol... been here for a long long time, and there was never a moment where this game didn't have a crutch in some form or another.
I don't know who sits down and decides what's balanced but that person needs to take a good long look at what a terrible job he's doing.

the problem here is not the heavy suit the proto rail or even the blaster maddy. It is the lack of an exit/enter animation that you can shoot that fat suit as he gets in and out of the tank. Teleportation is for jump bridges, wormholes(how uplinks work), stargates, and jump drives.
scout suit with a micro jump drive that'll be the day.
Assault dropship gets blown up....

Pilot Dropsuit.
Want to pilot a vehicle and not suck? That requires a Pilot suit. Otherwise make turrets SUPER slow, torque SUPER low and lower top speed significantly. A Light weapon and a single Eq slot. No highs. No lows. Paper thin shields and armor. Good in a HAV or DS, horrible on the ground (but possible in desperation mode).
See how many DS and HAV pilots want to run Heavy suits with RRs when their steering and turret speed are 20% of a dude in a Pilot suit. |

The one thing that bugs me is my heavy suit can run up a hill that my LAV cannot . Sorry you brought up heavies and I wanted to vent as well. For that FOTM hiding in a FOTM that is Pandora's Box and you better be glad it did not create a vortex or a tear in time.

As much as I hate tanks, I'm on the tanker side here. Most tankers just sit in there pilot seat and point and click. This one actually out skilled you. He was prepared for multiple types of attacks and you probably could have beaten him if he only used one, but he didn't. Props to this mystery tanker.
There are many ways to play this game and just because your playstyle doesn't work for everyone, it doesn't mean that his playstyle is broken or "unfair."
Please give tanks some balance
