So I'm continuing my travels in 2 days. I only had a PS3 because an acquaintance just kept it at my apartment. I simply happened to find DUST on it and played it on and off for the past year and a half. However, I'm returning it when I leave.
-The game is dying. Sure it's been happening slowly but it's become eerily noticeable as of late. It takes a good amount of time simply to find squads, and corps channels have been small in population. I see and play with about the same 20 or so people when ever I log in.
-CCP isn't really making a case for hope in sticking around. I understand and acknowledge their lengthy road-plan style. But for me to keep playing would mean dropping $200 on another system. Tens upon tens of posts saying, "We're aware of *blank* and working on it" is all well and good. It at least kinda makes us feel like the game isn't just a fun project that will just be left to die as it has been. But as for a vivid game plan, or direct place DUST is gearing to go for, there's not anything for us to really dig in for the long haul about. Just small things added to an incomplete game that still doesn't have anything in it to do beside grind, complain, and drink tears. (Which by the way I'm trying to cut down on sodium intake so the I can't even enjoy tears like I used too. And don't even suggest diet. How dare you -.-)
So I've got less than 48 hours and limited funds not already set aside for necessities. Do I drop the $200 on the PS3 and stick around, or save it up for a PS4?

you should never buy a system just for one game, and especially not a broken game like this, save your money, save for a ps4 or something more worthwhile than this dying game |

If you're strapped for cash, you should never buy a luxury item(e.g. a video game console). And for just one game? I think your money would better be spent elsewhere. That being said, if you don't need your ISK anymore, I'd be more than willing to take some of it off your hands. I blew almost all of mine trying to learn how to fly Assault Dropships. I think I'm starting to get the hang of it.

Yea that's the reasoning that's sticking for me sadly. I still like DUST and if I had a PS3 already I would definitely stick around. But it's just not a smart financial move to buy one simply for this game. I don't want to say goodbye but I simply don't have the cash for 2 systems :(
Best of luck to CCP and you all though. Not biomassing my character just in case I see DUST 514 of PS4. I grinded out about 30mil SP and a half a bil of ISK over the past year. I'd be sitting at a decent start if it does go there. Wish I could stay.

I bought a Wii just for Monster Hunter Tri. Worth every penny because the MH series is just amazing, but after playng through it, building a suit that I cold use basically anywhere, and learning all the timings of the new minsters, it started to become stale, lackluster, and repetitive. I have not touched my Wii since. I don't regret buying it just for the one game, but thats because it was a quality game that gave me 900+ hours of entertainment.
Don't buy a PS3 just for this game. Its simply not worth it (yet)

PS3 is dropping in price... find one with a broken blueray-thingy. Get it cheapo like I did. Have fun, maybe put in a small SSD (128gb/ 64gb) all an all that is not a big investment for a game you have spent a lot of time on and that is definitly going places!
I have to agree though that playing the same maps, same gamemodes, same glitches over and over gets tedious.. a break is a good solution to that especially with the fixes that do happen often!
I'm sticking around for: Racial variants, new weapon types, the large maps that show intention for a different type of gameplay, the huge scala available to try out, the hotfixes and content updates, the 20+ (a lot more...) people I love playing with, the new players that come in to the game and are very eager to make it, the players that are in it for the long haul and get excited about every skill point, the player-skill potential, building my own legend, etc.
Hope you do stick around! 07

If two or more of the following apply to you:
- DUST 514 may be dying, but I still really enjoy it.
- DUST 514 is not the only PS3 (or PS2 depending on the model) title that I own.
- The PS4 doesn't interest you.
- You will be able to purchase a PS4 as well down the road.
- You have tons of investment (15-20mil+ SP) into this game.
- You have tons of friends in DUST 514.
Then yes, you should purchase a PS3.
Uprising 1.8 seems promising, and nobody can tell that there will one distinct FoTM this time, and one of this game's biggest aches and pains (TTK) is being addressed. And everyone's role will actually be centered around their role, as opposed to roles with fail bonuses (Shield Recharge bonus on Gallente Assault suits) or the "Jack-Of-All-Trades, master at all" frames (Logistics). Scouts will be scouting, Logis will be medics, Heavies will be point defense, Assaults will be assaulting, and the Commando will be the true omni-soldier suit.
Sadly however., we all know CCP. They have what is quite possibly the most incompetent game design staff I have ever seen. Completely ignoring warnings of the entire playerbase, and managing to do things that completely defy logic in everyway possible. Every update manages to bring us 1 step forward, but 3 steps back. They seem to miss serious and important threads, while also trolling in others. And don't get me started about their Software Q&A (or lack thereof).
My bittervet syndrome and fanboyish tunnelvision aside, I have a gut feeling that this game is going to become fun again. If I were you, I'd follow that gut feeling. Besides, if it turns out that DUST doesn't work out well, you can always re-sell your PS3.

Which is just such a useful piece of information to have. Stuff and things. Could be an epic Beer Pong tourney. Could be work on Dust. Could be flip books of CCP trolling everyone. Could be that they got kittens in Shanghai and the whole team is paying attention to them. Could be that the Shanghai office doesn't even operate anymore and 1.8 will just be more vaporware.
With CCPs strict, "the community only needs to know things 25 minutes before they occur" mentality, people have no choice but to either: 1) Stop playing the game and troll on the forums 2) Stop playing and saying farewell to the community 3) Continue to play for what the game could be should be or will be 4) Live in complete denial that things are as bad as they truly are
I know, it's a F2P game, we can't complain. If we had paid $60 for it at a store, we could, but we aren't entitled because its F2P. Well, most of us have pissed away a considerable amount on what could be, and, its getting really annoying that things are taking a year+ to make it in to the game.
CCP, just tell us what the hell you're doing already. Stop with this shadowy presence, go "This is what we are doing, this is how long we think it'll take, but, we'll keep you updated as we progress for a more definitive timeframe"(And actually keep us updated on the forums, not everywhere BUT the forums) instead of, "Yea, we're doing things, SoonGäó, EventuallyGäó, Maybe if we're luckyGäó".
Pessimistic rant, due to 3 games in a row of 5+ tanks trolling around together removing all Infantry gameplay from the field, over.

What do you need a PS4 for anyway? The console itself is expensive, games are expensive, playing online requires a PS+ subscription, and there are not many games on the console yet. Also 1st generation consoles tend to have technical issues. Why not get a cheap PS3 now and enjoy the hundreds of exclusives it has to offer? Then wait for a 2nd generation PS4 and a price drop. At that time there will be more games available and the first generation games will be cheaper.
There really is no reason to get a new console now other than for those few launch titles...

*Bawls deep man-tears directly into an incinerator so no one can try to drink them.*
Got me in the feels. Alright you win. I'll still be gone for another since it doesn't change the fact that I no longer have a ps3. But when I get settled in my new home I'll pick one up.
And are you sure their doing a second Gen thing like with the ps3? Not sure why they would.

Get another PS3.
Play Dust and Dark Souls 2. Get PS+.
You will be busy for a year easily and can afford a PS4 well before that I hope.
Because beer, that's why.

Shiruba Ryou wrote:So I'm continuing my travels in 2 days.
Get a PS4 but consider U need to add $50 for the PS+ if U intend to play retail Games online. TBH i'd suggest U get PS+ cause of the titles U can also download for free and play which will last U as long as your PS+ Subscription and there are some really good titles included which i have tried: Resogun Outlast Don't Starve Contrast
However U can get around this by playing the Free To Play Games which are: War Frame War Thunder Black Light Retribrution DC Universe PLANETSIDE 2 (SooN WITHOUT THE TM) Drive Club (VERY SooN WITHOUT THE TM) And a Couple of PIN BALL GAMEZ
The PS4 is ATM the BEST New Gen Console on the Market, Fast and Powerful and costs less than a PC with similar scecs. The PS4 Hardware wise is Better than the Xbone, Games appear to run better on the PS4 compared to the Xbone, one example is BF4 720p on Xbone and 900p on PS4.
Titles like BF4 are 64 Players, Killzone Shadow Fall is 24 Players (No Aim Assist and i'd consider it a better investment over CoD Ghost). All Games from the PS3 which came out on the PS4 Not only Look better but Run Better, ALOT BETTER.
U Also have Party Chat on the PS4 now like the Xbox Live Service so therefore U can talk to friends which are not in the same game or doing other things totally
I'd say that the PS4 will be totally worth it when Planetside 2 comes out: It's a Futuristic FPS Game with 2000 Players in the same Map (666v666v666 or 1000v1000), Maps are 64 KM Squarded, U have Aircraft, Ground vehicles, Max units and Infantry, Base Controlled Territories in a Persistant Battle and a fairly well balanced game.
In conclusion , NOW is the time to seriously consider the PS4
DON'T SPEND CA$H ON DUST 514
CCP WILL ONLY GIVE YOU AUR AFTER THEY REMOVE YOUR BPOs WHICH U SPENT REAL MONGé¼Y ON!

old news everyone said this not too long after uprisings release, here's one example of how bad it got https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=87594&find=unread , unless CCP has something amazing set up for Dust 514 at fan fest this year this game is done for.

I stopped reading at "The game is dying"
According to their forums, every game has been dying for as long as they've existed. I've played since closed beta. The game isn't dying.

Save your money. Build a gaming pc. Next year Star Citizen will be out, and all signs point to not even EVE surviving when the entire playerbase jumps ship. Apparently half of EVE's players have already given CIG money. |

Take a break for a month or two if you would like. Wait for people to sell there ps3 and buy it used.
I found a ps3 for $60 the other day and snagged it befor somone else did. Look and wait for deals, buy it cheap and then just sell it cheap again when your ready to convert completely to ps4.

It's not gonna be on the ps4 for a while, should get a ps3 anyway because there are still going to be games that will come out for it, some exclusively, ps3 ain't dead yet.
And despite what you say about the game dying, there are alot of people who will continue to play the game as long as the servers are up and running even if it's only because they've put alot of time into the game already, as long as CCP has no plans to quit early and run away with our money I'll stick around.
I'm reminded repeatedly that EVE was this bad at first and while I question CCP's judgement in releasing games that are crappy I do trust in their ability to vastly improve it over time.
Finding squads isn't that hard, or necessary, i'll often play with like 1 or 2 other people just because I have the luxury of deciding who I like to play with, bigger squads are better obviously but really all you need to do is have a couple of chat channels that are always full of people and you should be fine, there's no need to join a huge corp just to be able to play. Even then there's nothing wrong with playing solo, in fact sometimes I prefer it because I put no pressure on myself to support my team, can do whatever the hell I want.
This game can be frustrating and there's still alot missing before it's "completed", but I'm definitely sticking around. Whether or not you want to play is up to you but work under the assumption that this game will be around for a while

It might take a while though. You might have to wait 2-3 years. So be careful with your decision. I didnt get a PS3 until the first gen Slim came out (2009, about 2 years after PS3 was released), and I remember even then there were still games being released on both platforms when I switched. The thing to remember is that gaming developers are always trying to max their profits, so during the transitiion period from last gen consoles to the next, they intentionally release games on both platforms to cover their bases. Look at Watchdogs, one of the most anticipated next gen games -- coming for both PS4 and PS3. Was like that during the PS2 to PS3 transition as well. Basically, I only switched when the console price came down, and games were not being released for PS2 anymore. Win/Win for those of us without deep pockets.
On top of that, it takes a couple years for the gaming devs to get used to a platform, to truly maximize it's potential -- look at Red Dead Redemption and God of War 3 on PS3, and GTA San Andreas and God of War 2 on PS2 -- truly stellar games that came out towards the middle/late period of the console's lifecycle, that were possible because the devs knew how to maximize the hardware. There's no rush to be first in line for the PS4, not for my money anyways.
See you after your hiatus, dude!
