Ain't gonna happen.

We used to have that back when TacNet did what it was supposed to do as documented in the beginning videos. If a squad member saw a red then the entire squad knew it was there. Anybody you saw was visible as well as their name. Just looking in direction of a blue gave you their name. That was all removed just prior to the release of the fabulously useless scanners.

Of course, scanners will get nuked here in 1.8 so they will be even more useless than before. Instead of being able to give a merc a reliable view of their surroundings they will only give a snapshot in one direction and none of them will show the cloaked scouts waiting to stab you in the back. Such fun.

My reasoning on them being useless is that they only provide a small percentage of what TacNet did, waste SP/ISK and suck up an equipment slot so fewer mercs run injectors. More clones lost, faster battles and useless gear based on somebody's pet project. All a clear win for CCP/Shanghai and a clear loss for every player in Dust514.

Knowing the location of your team is OP! Make mercs blind! Nerf vision!

I do think this would be a good idea.

I would also accept the minimap green dots to have numbers signifying your order if the squad if always having names is too difficult or causes too much clutter.

Or, we could steal a page from Halo 3's playbook, and allow players to have a 3 digit "Tag" IE: 'Z07' 'V66' 'G2D' ... etc

Names must back!

And (only to see in squad) haevy tag /'\, logi /;\, scout /o\, asault /a\, this is of course exp. ;)
