The EVE-DUST Link was the entire reason pitched to us for this game's existence. How important is that Link to you? How important is that Link to CCP? From the CSM8 meeting minutes, Session 23: Chat with Hilmar (CCP's CEO), p. 73,
"CCP's primary focus for the time being will be to improve the DUST 514 gameplay outside of the EVE-DUST link"
What are your thoughts on the EVE-DUST Link? How do the meeting minutes summary of Hilmar's stance on the EVE-DUST Link fit into your own thoughts?
DUST was based on being linked with EVE. A proper link with EVE will lend itself to improved gameplay. "Linking" with EVE is more than just them shooting us and us shooting them. It's more than cross platform industry and other PvE activites. It's follow the patterns established by EVE.
1.8 is another big step in the right direction with the introduction of the full line up of basic racial suits. (Hopefully a more racially representative line up of heavy weapons is slated for 1.9.) I hope that this bit from the meeting minutes is to say that CCP hopes to address only the most serious gameplay issues, but realize that a proper link with EVE will lead to an improved gameplay in DUST.

Honestly, until there is actual full racial representation in not only player used gear and vehicles, but in planetary infrastructure, any link to EVE will be weak at best.
I would love for EVE and DUST to actually feel connected, but right now, I just want DUST to be worth being attached to EVE.

I played EVE for a couple of weeks to see how I liked it. It was really fun. Couldn't afford to keep playing, but I had a blast.
One thing I saw as I was looking at the market was the ability to purchase all of the various dropsuits and weapons that are used in Dust. Man. I know that EVE corps have untold billions of ISK, but I would LOVE to mine for a few hours and keep my little logi here fat and happy in the best gear, instead of trying to scrape by on lousy payouts in public contracts.
So yeah, I wish there was some more EVE/Dust connection. And while ISK transfered to Dust would ruin Dust's "economy", maybe if there was a conversion rate or something that would allow a capsuleer to sponsor a merc on the battlefield?

EVE-DUST link it why I started this game in the first place. however, I do believe they need to finished the basic on DUST before working further on the link. And by the basics I mean all racial suits, weapons, and tanks, along with a moderate level of balance that takes into account player limitations in matches. |

Agreed but they are running out of time with destiny almost here and The Division definitely not too long after.

Weapons and dropsuits are candy. Candy is nice, but I'm here for the meat. If the link to Eve was not developed any further than it is now I wouldn't be playing anymore. It's the only reason for this game to even exist.
Good thing I'm patient, soon I'll have been playing this almost 2 years. Kind of stunning to think about how long this thing has been rolling along. Closed beta feels like it was just yesterday. |

Being connected to EVE does nothing to help balance, core mechanics, or fun.
DUST needs to be worth playing in and of itself. Otherwise, connecting to EVE is pointless.

thats because ccp launched an unfinished game. but the entire point of the game is to be linked with eve. its not a standalone shooter that happens to be in the same universe and share similar designs. this is new eden and this is eve. its just a different part of eve. without eve this game is completely pointless.
the core mechanics should have been finished before may 2013. |

At this point, not important anymore. It missed its chance at being relevant. At this point the two games are on divergent vectors and ppl adapted and accepted this. Right now going back and talking about 'living, breathing, interconnected universe' is just frustrating and confusing.
Oh, sht! I just learned you can make a signature! Thanks, CCP! Forums are getting better!

DUST has to have a stable foundation before you build a bridge on it that links to EVE. That bridge hinges on the foundations of both EVE and DUST.
For the "point" of DUST to be reached, we need a foundation to build on.
Without the foundation, connectivity [the "bridge"] is pointless.

I like to see a link where CCP said that " this game shouldn't/doesn't/wouldn't stand on its own" . But I doubt you can. Since the CEO said that they should focus on the core it seems like thats what they want. |

It is very important to Dust. Not so much important to Eve at the moment due to Eve already having established itself on a solid foundation of the past 11 years, but it's still very important for Dust in regards to the secondary market, industry, faction warfare, planetary conquest, and cross-platform coordination in general.

I recall back in 2009 or 2010 during Fanfest where CCP said that Dust 514 and Eve Online will have a very close connection to each other but not be entirely dependent on each other. It was meant to be done in a way that if Dust were to fail, Eve Online would not be impacted. Or if Eve Online were to fail (not likely anytime soon), then Dust would not be impact as much.

Would like to see EVE and DUST be able to interact together even more. The OB support in FW is nice, but I wanna see my merc on an ever ship when i'm not in battle! I think PVE could bring that! I want to help protect mining ventures from pirates and droids! The more the two games link, the better in my book ::)

1. We are already connected to it. 2. Eve Online has a set of rules (or lack of) that sets it apart from the rest of the MMOs. 3. Has an 11-year track record.

I actually wouldn't be surprised if he was serious. Eve Online is still an MMO that's not all that popular compared to WoW and I still run into people in the real world who never heard of Eve. After all, Eve is a niche game and the only reason not that many people play it is because... well... it actually makes you think.
Yeah. I know. Not that many people like to have to think while playing.

Or so you think, making a stronger link to eve and giving mercs more to do could be a whole lot of fun - I'd love to do boarding actions to help steal ships, I'd love to fight against incursions on the ground, I'd love to have r&d and so many more things - I want to play with the other kids in the sandbox rather than be secluded in my own 'room' in one system with no ability to move anywhere other than into a gladiatorial contest. |

I'd like that all too.
But I want it with balanced weapons, suits, and finely tuned shooting mechanics. Which this game does not have (yet).

The link from dust to eve is pretty much water vapor, untangle but you know it's there a ever living presents around you,and it saddens me that it has yet to crystallize into something of true worth to dust players Personality id keep it simple through trade ,exclusive content(loot, raw materials, resources etc.) beween the two worlds ,stuff you can get in dust but not in eve that the eve players will want and vise versa.Reason being,it gives dust and eve players something to work towards together with BOTH worlds getting something good out of it and who doesn't like getting cool exclusive stuff.
Bottomline,make me care for EVE.
A strange game.
The only winning move is
not to play.

I think done well it will make an interesting dynamic for both systems/games. That said I don't place a great importance on it so much as making this game stand out on its own - after all, great as the lore is for this game many console players are simply not interested. They just want an interesting shooter.
Don't get me wrong. I love the idea of boarding a capital ship - full of defensive features and other defending Dust mercs. Striking hard and fast to get to the core/pod to cripple the ship in the tight confines and labyrinthine corridors before our limited clones or resources run out (perhaps with devious crawl spaces for us scouts to ambush lone mercs or sabotaging lights / systems to change the gameplay)
Awesome feature, but lets get our side sorted out first and bring in the player base.
