With 1.7 upon us and 1.8 looming in the horizon, I thought it time to begin an *updated* thread about some ideas for new vehicle types. As the current vehicles are being tweaked and rebalanced, one should assume that CCP is getting close to their "solid foundation" for vehicles, and both the patch notes and dev blogs state that (and i paraphrase) "once they establish a solid foundation, they will have a balanced, stable platform to introduce new vehicle types and variations". And since 2 out of the last 3 patches were heavily focused on vehicles and their stats and fitting options, it may be sooner than we think. (or not!). Plus I always get anxious when I see that loading screen that shows the legend of all the different battlefield icons...light and heavy aircraft, and medium attack vehicles are amongst the icons that we should focus our suggestions.
So, given the latest tweaks and checks and balances and rebalances and changes, what are some suggestions or ideas for new vehicle types that you would like to see (or not like to see!!) on the battlefield. And before someone tries to spam this thread with ridiculous ideas, let me be the first to say that bicycles, unicorns, Honda Civics, your mom's back...are all not battle-ready...let's keep it somewhat serious...who knows who may be watching ;)
My suggestion? Oh, well since you asked...
Light, Low-Medium Speed Aircraft (think A-10 "Warthog" Thunderbolt II)
One or two seats, depending on the variation. The two seater could also occupy a bombardier for strategic Air-to-Ground strikes, thus promoting more squad play.
Some roles it could fit in (as with the A-10) would be Aerial Infantry Support, Armored Vehicle Bombardment, and Air-to-Air Combat (Dogfighting)
I've seen suggestions for fighters, but most peoples image of a jet fighter is that of dogfighting at mach 1, and the maps just aren't that big (yet). The lower speed and service ceiling of a multi-purpose aircraft like this would make it a welcome choice on the battlefield, and one that myself and many other pilots would operate.
Counters for this aircraft could be aircraft of the same type (different race maybe...), an infantry locking missile system (think Stinger) as if the swarm launcher and the plasma cannon had a baby (did i just come up with a reasonable role for the plasma cannon??!), locking missile installations, and locking missile turrets.
AV could be countered in all the typical fashions, with the addition of a flare or chaff module that deters a lock-on.
Just some suggestions...I'm not saying I wanna bring World of Warplanes to New Eden...I do believe, however, that this type of aircraft is a staple of battlefields everywhere, and would be a welcome addition to a vehicle operator's arsenal, not to mention the mix up of the same ol AR 514 |

Either a dirt bike or street bike type vehicle. Very fast, very agile but low hp.
P.S. Anybody remember the old school robotech where their dropsuits could transform into a bike. That would be kool to have in dust

Mav's need to be like the mav concept art. Multiwheeled apcs, should be able to fit an aa turret, an av turret that's fast like a railgun turret firerate designed to kill tanks and out maneuver them, or give that to lavs, give the turret a bit of armor to protect the gunner and give a lav variant designed to hunt tanks then give mav's a large howitzer type weapon that sacrifices personal transport abilities for high damage on tanks.
For the howitzer think large railgun, but you can't turn it. As someone else once suggested like a tank destroyer from world war 2. Forward facing artillery that's high damage for ambushing tanks. Caldari get a larger railgun, minmatar the typical howitzer with maybe slightly guided shells to help because of travel time, amarr get a large laser that charges up for several seconds then fires a large continuous beam for a few seconds.
For aa on Caldari I'd like an automatic swarm launcher that's same damage as swarms now, but fully automatic with a larger clip. Can't lock on ground vehicles though. give it active air radar modules. or sonar on the ground one to hunt tanks, when active it pings and a wave travels outward highlighting the outline of enemy ground vehicles like the new radar in splintercell blacklist.
Or just make the radar/ ground sonar take the weapon slot as a infantry support. you can fit a limited supply depot to it so you can reload if you walk up to it, pick an option to reload or heal (not both) your suit and then you go to a cooldown and cant use thafeature again for a while. no changing suits though. Using it excludes cru module and vice versa.
Gives you a troop transport, mobile supply/triage unit, aa vehicle, or anti ground vehicle. |
