The simplest solution is already available: Voice.
I'm starting to think I should make that my sig.
Stop playing solo. Stop playing silent. Get a mic. Get on comms. Get on squads. Find that a lot of these complaints are not problems when you play an MMO socially.

Sole Fenychs wrote:Nope, forget it. If I have to pay 50Gé¼ to properly play the game, I'll just go back to playing on PC. I already got multiple mics there.
Also, I enjoy playing solo. I prefer to not trust random blueberries. My hardcore time ended six years ago - I don't intend to socialize in games anymore. I play one or two matches every one or two days to relax, not to spend half an hour setting up my microphone and then realizing that everyone else in my squad is thirteen years old.
Yeah, the game cost so much already! {/sarc} I don't know about the exchange, but my mic cost $15. Is it the only game you'd use it for? Yes, that's possible. Or you can look at it from another perspective--it makes the game (which again, cost you $0) what it can be. So to play the game properly it takes....about 1/3 to 1/4 the cost of the average new game. Total, since again the game cost you nothing.
So don't trust random blueberries. (Your trust issues aside, you're missing the opportunity to meet some good folks and effective teammates who simply don't have full squads.) Get in a corp--then they won't be random! They'll be greenberries, woot!
The rest of your argument is illogical to a fault. What kind of mic takes you any more time to set up than getting it off charger, turning it on, and putting it on your head? There have been some really good teammates I've read about people encountering that are under 15. Don't assume.
In the end, no one is going to force you to play this game nor any other game. And no one is going to force you to play it in any particular way. However, the developers are totally free to have an idea of how the game works and forcing you to play it that way if you want to be effective. And I, for my little singular player voice, will always cheer 'required' teamwork and socialization in an MMO; it is that quality which separates it from any other single-player game.

What I said above is what I realized about cost per game, and I haven't regretted it since I got into a good corp. It is worth 3x it's cost, it helps that much.

Sole Fenychs wrote:Anyway, do you want the game to get more players or are you happy with a steadily shrinking community? Here's my angle on it elsewhere:
Ankbar wrote: This is where I'm different from 99% of people out there, and I accept that. I don't give 1 rat's behind about $$. CCP has a vision. They should be doing quality work while striving to that goal. If that goal is unpopular, even to the point of becoming a non-viable business, I would not suggest nor support the compromising of the goal. If it can't get market support, then their dream is simply not viable and it "fails" (from a business perspective.) But they shouldn't compromise their dream. And I take the same approach when it means that I'll have to quit playing a game because the designer's goals and my fun don't line up.
Sole Fenychs wrote:Requiring a mic raises the barrier to entry in ridiculous ways. ri-dic-u-lous: extremely silly or unreasonable You must hit your ceiling on averagely silly or unreasonable really easily. It doesn't sound like the issue is with game design.
Sole Fenychs wrote:Again, I do not play the game to socialize. I socialize if I want to socialize, because that's far more productive. And I greatly respect prioritizing RL face-to-face relationships over in-game relationships. It's why I'm not involved with my MMO more, cause RL relationships take much of my time, and that's a great choice to make. However, this is still ultimately an MMO even if the mechanics are FPS. And a CCP MMO at that. It will not be easy. It will not be casual. And it will rely a great deal on what players provide for each other, and not handouts from NPCs or other game-run functions.
Sole Fenychs wrote:Anyway, this isn't even the topic. The topic is about spawn killing. Even with a mic you likely won't have the information required to avoid a spawn camped uplink. This is ultimately on-topic. The topic is help prevent spawn killing by giving us info. That isn't needed because all it takes is people freaking reporting it on comms. With mics. In squads or on teams. Even if folks are on squad channels instead of team channel (which I totally understand), the reds should only get as many spawn camp kills as there are squads before intel has disseminated. A computer-run intel is not needed, and given the number of other things CCP could be working on, isn't nearly important.
