You don't have to be the best player ever to score the best as a Commando
Get a good team around you and work it. Heck, Commando Squadron is even providing good squads to join.

Ideally Commandos would simply be added to the the Heavy rewards. Get a kill as a Commando, get 500 more SP and a prototype aurum version of the weapon you used. And double if you kill a vehicle as a Commando.

Give the Mando an incentive here CCP Come on Do it I don't think diminished rewards is needed at all. Commandos use light weapons, that is just how it is. Sure heavies can use them too, but they're defining trait is the ability to use heavy weapons. The fact that heavy weapons have a limited selection has nothing to do with it IMO.
And it's only up to a combined total of 300, so at most I would say get maybe 200 Carthum Assault Scrambler Rifles and 100 Viziam Laser Rifles.

The killing potential of the commando is higher than a Sentinel that is limited in weapons choice IMO.
That being said if the idea is to promote the use of the Commando/Heavies this event falls short.

If you have a twitter account, direct a message at CCP Eterne who is in charge of Dust events. Something like this. Maybe there is still time to update the event to include Commandos, it doesn't start until 9 days after all.
