didn't read the whole thread, but several threads already related to this general line of questioning already exist. I'm sure this turned into a recruitment thread, but I wanted to stress a few points to a new player. (realize none or all of this will be changed after 1.8)
1) A mic is not only useful, but relatively essential when playing in a squad
2) You should ALWAYS be in as full a squad as possible.
3) Join a corp that plays together regularly. This can be overlooked but is very useful because if you play with the same 5-10 people regularly, you can specialize in their deficiencies. That allows you to gain WP faster (meaning more SP) which will get you to a point where you are relatively equal (eventually) to those top tier equipment players
4) You will never catch the top players in overall SP, but that is OK if you have the patience, since nobody can use more than 1 suit at a time and each suit has limited space for attachments. I have said that it does matter that you can never catch up, but I meant it in terms of player retention. In actuality, assuming you want to give the game a legitimate shot, all you need to be equals with anyone is to max your passive bonuses (armor/shield/PG/CPU/etc) and skill into whatever suit is your best and attach your best weapon to it. You will be able to outfit a single proto-viable suit. You are now on even footing with anyone else. The only difference is they may have multiple proto variants to run, but you will have your best (which means you have effectively caught up to them) which means proto-on-proto violence. You are now an equal, just remember that alot of people(myself included) have proto suits but rarely use them, in pubs specifically, due to the ridiculous costs. PC cures that, but until you got Proto, you are basically "not gonna have a good time".
5) Because you are running with a corp/squad regularly, you will learn to work together better. You will know if certain people always drop uplinks, others may rep/resup, and other may kill anything that moves. But you will find a place. You will learn to excel at it. You and your squad will get better. Then you will get to do what every dust vet is forced to say on a daily basis....."These FUCKIN blueberries are FUCKIN morons! Can you believe that dipshit right there?"
This all takes awhile, which is why I said it matters when discussing before. But if you are willing to give it a serious shot, then patience is your fiend.....and don't forget to check your corners, scouts are sneaky bastards and only gonna get sneakier w/1.8. |
