Knives - always SG or CR Remote explosives Dampners to below 36db if skills don't get u there Precission to below 34 to see all but the heaviest dampened scouts Fill any remaining high slots with shield ext Kin cat or stamina in any remainig lows Don Don't try to tank ehp Think stealth or speed and adjust to suit playstyle
Do not engage from in front of enemy Do not engage multiple enemies Target hackers, snipers, loners and newbs or hack in empty areaas of the map

^ This is solid advice above.
My recommendation would also include skilling things such as electronics and engineering up to L3 or L4. Even though scout suits are getting a bit more CPU/PG overhead in 1.8, they still will have less than other suits and running equivalent mods could put you at a disadvantage. At the moment having these skills to 4 or even 5, especially if you are using the CPU/PG starved Minmatar suit is a requirement.
Also, I'd say to try the militia variant weapons first before you decide to skill too heavily into AR, shotgun, pistols or SMGs. For the more exotic weapons without militia variants (rail rifle, combat rifle, etc...) you can obtain standard versions in the Faction warfare store. Having the right weapon for your playstyle makes a big difference and given you lack of slots as a scout, finding you weapon than skilling it to the max is extremely helpful, especially with new changes coming in 1.8 which will make heavies much more beastly.
Other advice includes becoming comfortable with death, so use cheap suits as much as you can. Not many people run PRO scout suits and make a profit match to match. ADV seems to be the standard and lots of scouts run STD gear.
You'll figure out what playstyle you like, whether it's focused on speed, flanking, tanking (some of the best known scouts HP tank; Marauder, Appia, Roner), or electronic awareness....
Try it all and come join us in the barbershop.... we talk scout **** all day and all night, and we thrown in a bunch of other random topics as well to keep it fun. And we'll revisit any questions as needed from new scouts. A lot of the dudes there have been dedicated scouts since beta.
Barbershop
My favorite fit (I prefer ewar scouting with my Gallente, but speed assassination with the Minmatar is pretty fun as well)
Dragonfly Scout (STD gallente scout) HS: ADV precision enhancer
LS: ADV range extender LS: armor repair
Grenade: basic locus grenade
Light Weapon: Militia scrambler pistol (AR fits here as well and I've used it in the past with good results) Sidearm: Militia scramber pistol (SMG used in the past)
EQ: uplinks or remotes as needed
Strategy. Use passive scanning to flank 1-2 opponents max and catch them off guard. I need to be close to use the pistols so I get plenty of practice strafing with this build. Try to catch people hacking and go for head-shots. |

Solid advice from the guys above me. The only thing I would recommend is making sure your primary weapon and sidearm compliment each other. Example: don't run nova knives with a shotgun as you will have no chance against enemies outside of 5ish meters. Another thing to consider when pairing your weapons is damage type. This is very important for a scout as we need to optimize our damage dealt to overcome our low HP. My fits usually have shields in the highs and then a cardiac reg and either a reactive plate or a kin cat in the lows. My weapon combos are as follows: shotgun/scrambler pistol or SMG, combat rifle/nova knives, combat rifle/scrambler pistol, and scrambler pistol/nova knives. The pistol is a skill weapon and I am very confident with it, which is why I can run it as a main weapon. It is difficult to use at first, but as you get more comfortable with it and start lading headshots it is incredibly beadly. The SMG is a great weapon as well and takes a little less skill yo use as it doesn't require the precision the pistol does. |

Sound advice thus far, what I would add is most of your sp is going to go into skills to increase CPU/PG The Min scout is very hard to fit out with gear, skills the increase your CPU or PG will be essential to building fittings that do what you want.
Also invest in scanning range early it makes a huge difference. (unless you run an active scanner, but that eats your fitting space, and let's enemies know you are around through the "you have been scanned" message)

If you're looking as to how to build one quick. The best advice IMO would be to get your adv suit and then start working on getting profile dampening to 5. With that you can get under everything but proto scanners and not too many people run those. Then work on precision and range as that is what makes a scout a scout, being able to see the enemy well before they see you.
As for weapons use anything high damage you have less hit points than everyone else so you need to kill fast. I personally don't like the shotgun because it requires you to get real close. I use a combination of Assault Rifles and Scrambler Pistol. This works wonders, using the SP as my main and the AR to finish off what's left of their armor. The CR works great in CQC as well, but when doing this the AR feels like it switches to and fires quicker.
Some people have told you to go knives but honestly I think it's something you should do after you can go unnoticed and have a gun. Knife kills are awesome and fun but are hard to pull off. You'll find yourself going negative a lot.
The main thing with a scout is to realize you're not a medium or heavy frame. You need to make your engagements mainly one on one and make even greater use of cover. Invest in remotes and bait people in. When done right it's very effective and is a OHK on proto bears. Hell, I smile every time it happens to me. |

There is obviously no correct way to fit or use a min scout, all I can do is explain what works for me.
My favorite fitting: (cpu and engineering skill max btw)
Flanker/hacker
Adv minscout 2 x shield extenders (complex) Adv shotgun Smg cpu upgrade Complex kinetic catalyser Adv quantum scanner
Tactics: I use the scanner to locate enemies, flank them and move into shotgun range without being seen. The advanced scanner allows me to track the direction my targets are facing so that I can approach undetected. Nothing is more satisfying than flanking a group of enemies engaged in a long ranged firefight with my teammates and shotgunning them all in the back one after another. Near objectives use the scanner to check if anyone is around, if the coast is clear proceed with the hack, beware of enemy scouts.
Shields are good as you have very good passive regen. Also the suit relies on speed for positioning and hit and run attacks so you don't really need armor. I don't use damage mods as I tend to give myself enough of a tactical advantage to win without them. If you get into a straight fight you will tend to lose. Also the shield makes a huge difference to such a low hp suit.
Main weapon: I like the shotgun as it has very high alpha damage and gives a (slight) advantage over common weapons at close range. The scout's movement and stealth abilities allow me to maneuver into close range to make use of this advantage. These abilities are also very helpful for taking objectives. These are often located in cramped environments ideal for the shotgun. Alpha damage is useful as I am always the person to initiate a fight. I you are attacked you should run and hide. Knives work very similarly to the shotgun however I find them more difficult to use and slightly less effective. As has been previously stated, there is no point in using knives and shotguns. My experience of rifles is that I tend to fail to kill my opponents quickly enough before either they turn and kill me or some one else sees me and kills me.
Sidearm: I like the smg for various reasons. The bonus to armor works well with the shotgun's bonus to shields. The main way I use the smg is when I attack an enemy with the shotgun but am unable to kill them before they move away outside my optimal range, often this will be towards their friends making following very difficult. I quickly switch to the longer range smg and finish off their armor.
Low slots: The most important thing here is to reduce your profile to below 36db (adv scanner precision). This is by far the most common scanner and will completely shut you down if is gets you. The scout registry in general discussion has a great guide (link on page 1 or 2) for how to do this. I have enough passive skill to do this without dampeners but if you don't, use a dampener. Cpu ugrades are pretty good for min scout as you severely lack suit cpu, especially if you have access to complex modules. Dampeners don't use pg so a dampener and cpu upgrade will leave a lot of useful spare fitting room. Other low slot modules seem to be a bit of a contentious issue amongst min scouts. I highly recommend kinetic catalysers but you could also go with armor, scan range (if you don't have an active scanner) or cardiac regulators. Personally I find speed extremely useful for flanking and hit and run, as well as general battlefield movement. Armor is popular, however I am not a fan as you need regen, but with such low base armor it feels like a waste, not to mention the limits to mobility. I believe catalysers are nearly always better than regulators unless you are moving long distances in which case you would be better off with an LAV. Bare in mind though that catalysers have very high cpu/pg requirements and high skill requirements. Range amplifiers might be useful if you don't want to use a scanner but i'm not blown away by them.
Equipment: The quantum scanner is pretty essential to my play-style. It is all about seeing without being seen and allows me to plan attacks and escape routes. The scan alert the enemy gets doesn't seem to help them much in my experience, however I sometimes don't use the scanner if I have got some one with my passive scan and don't want to give them any warning I may be around. There are alternatives to the scanner though. Remote explosives are very popular and work well with scouts. You have to be a lot more careful though without the knowledge of the enemy's position. Use your team mates to locate enemies. Look around in more open areas. Pay attention to your passive scans. You have a 16m base passive scan which is very useful in corridors ect. Use it to watch as enemies come round corners so you have your gun aimed and ready to surprise them.
Alternative fit:
Uplink runner
Scouts are great for placing uplinks in good positions. Focus on biotic modules. I find rifles more useful than the shotgun if I lack a scanner as the longer engagement range makes it easier to retreat if the odds aren't in my favor, for me it's the combat rifle. I like to use this suit to lay uplinks then switch to the shotgun fit once they are in place. Adv uplinks are awsome.
Sorry for the massive post, hope it helps.
