^ This is solid advice above.
My recommendation would also include skilling things such as electronics and engineering up to L3 or L4. Even though scout suits are getting a bit more CPU/PG overhead in 1.8, they still will have less than other suits and running equivalent mods could put you at a disadvantage. At the moment having these skills to 4 or even 5, especially if you are using the CPU/PG starved Minmatar suit is a requirement.
Also, I'd say to try the militia variant weapons first before you decide to skill too heavily into AR, shotgun, pistols or SMGs. For the more exotic weapons without militia variants (rail rifle, combat rifle, etc...) you can obtain standard versions in the Faction warfare store. Having the right weapon for your playstyle makes a big difference and given you lack of slots as a scout, finding you weapon than skilling it to the max is extremely helpful, especially with new changes coming in 1.8 which will make heavies much more beastly.
Other advice includes becoming comfortable with death, so use cheap suits as much as you can. Not many people run PRO scout suits and make a profit match to match. ADV seems to be the standard and lots of scouts run STD gear.
You'll figure out what playstyle you like, whether it's focused on speed, flanking, tanking (some of the best known scouts HP tank; Marauder, Appia, Roner), or electronic awareness....
Try it all and come join us in the barbershop.... we talk scout **** all day and all night, and we thrown in a bunch of other random topics as well to keep it fun. And we'll revisit any questions as needed from new scouts. A lot of the dudes there have been dedicated scouts since beta.
Barbershop
My favorite fit (I prefer ewar scouting with my Gallente, but speed assassination with the Minmatar is pretty fun as well)
Dragonfly Scout (STD gallente scout) HS: ADV precision enhancer
LS: ADV range extender LS: armor repair
Grenade: basic locus grenade
Light Weapon: Militia scrambler pistol (AR fits here as well and I've used it in the past with good results) Sidearm: Militia scramber pistol (SMG used in the past)
EQ: uplinks or remotes as needed
Strategy. Use passive scanning to flank 1-2 opponents max and catch them off guard. I need to be close to use the pistols so I get plenty of practice strafing with this build. Try to catch people hacking and go for head-shots. |
