Lets look beyond the fame and consider RadarGÇÖs qualifications and track record. Lets also stop getting hung up on stuff he did not say in his original post. There have been a number of candidates who I did not really have a feel for until at least the second page of their candidacy thread.
The fact that Radar is the CEO of a top PC Corp says a lot more than just making him a celebrity. It says that he has the social skills for people to want to follow his lead. It says he has the organizational skills to keep his corp functioning. It says that he can handle a position of responsibility. There are several CEOGÇÖs of large Corps who have announced their intention to run for CPM, so these strengths are not unique to Radar, but they should not be discounted either.
I think it is important to have the perspective of the competitive Planetary Conquest players represented on the CPM by at least one candidate, as they are an important segment of the DUST Community. The ability to represent that segment of the community is an important point in favour of each of the candidates who have run competitive PC Corps, or at least have the skills to play at that level.
What starts to make Radar stand out is his experience as a successful Field Commander, as well as his experience with such a wide variety of weapons and play styles. To be a good Field Commander you need to be able to see the big picture. You also need to have a good understanding of most if not all the roles on the battlefield and how they work together. Need I go into how important it is for a member of the CPM to able to see the big picture, and understanding a wide range of play styles?
RadarGÇÖs platform of being able to provide a truly balanced perspective on balance may not be as sexy as some of the other issues, but balance is going to be something that will remain an issue to one degree or anther as long at this game exists. Having a CPM who can see both sides of a balance debate is important!
Radar has also stated that player retention is an important issue for him. He has had friends leave the game and he wants to make the game unique and interesting enough to lure them back. While he relates to the issue on a personal level, it is one of the great issues that DUST faces. What does CCP need to do to make this game attract and retain the interest of a larger player base? The New Player experience is part of that, but making sure there are aspects of the game that keep more hard core players is part of it too.
We donGÇÖt want people voting for Radar just because he is a celebrity, but we should not be dismissing him as a celebrity either. We need to take a serious look at what he brings to the table and treat him just like any other candidate.
