Thanks to the booster bug you won't even reliably beat a blaster tank. (Assuming competence on the part of the blaster, of course)
Happily printing ISK with permahardeners and MLT blasters.
Just let me get a couple mil more before nerf, CCP!

Problem here is that you really CAN'T tank a tank properly.
The Hardeners are just so much better. And if you're only going against AV, you don't need to tank up really.
The interesting thing about actually being a tanker is that if you have the SP, you can make diff fits for diff reasons.
Example, my dual damage mode, shield hardner gunnlogi does run a repper and a an armor hardner. It has one task. Kill other tanks. If I catch you flat footed with the particle cannon, you're done. However, it does have a bit of a "glass cannon" feel to it because I can't take on more than one guy at a time. And if I get caught flat footed, it's redline or respawn.
Now on the other hand, if I want to tool around town without any fear whatso ever of getting killed, there's the "beast".
Imagine a Gunnlogi with a particle cannon, hardner, heavy booster, and extended shields. I'm running 5100 EHP and lemme tell ya, DO NOT DISCOUNT the shield booster. The Enhanced heavy reps shields at 1950 per pulse. As far as I'm concerned, it's actually better in a short fight than armor reppers. But you HAVE to be on target with your shots. Also, it has almost half the cool down time of a hardner on the same level. Don't get me wrong, if I have to choose I go hardner over booster, but the booster has some definite advantages.
The drawback to this rig is that I have to run CPU/PG mods so no love on my armor....but it's a Gunnlogi, way I figure it is if I'm down to armor I'm just running anyways (and my dropsuit has a militia repair tool for this reason).
It took me a while to figure out what CCP did with this tank build. They went the opposite way of the infantry game. Instead of lowering the TTK of MLT vs actual tankers, they buffed the tankers with real SP sink to the point where they don't die.
Occasionally I screw up and get my tank ganked, but its usually against a squad with multiple tanks...other than that...I keep dying to orbitals more than anything (Enemy tank gets into position, gets me to stop, we salvo, and while I'm hurt they drop the orbi on me).
But I will end with this. If you aren't doing something with that extra slot on the actual tanks to "tank them" I think you're missing out. I know everyone loves the dual reps on the Maddy, but I have had far better experiences throwing a complex plate on there instead of the second repper.
They'd ban me, but I'm too funny and more importantly, I'm right.

Have you ever driven around the rail tank in CQC? Or do you just sit in front of them like a duck and fire back?
Railgun turrets cannot turn as fast as blasters can, so driving around them is a huge advantage.

Turning the tank and turret at the same time compensate for the lower turret rotation speed decently. And the advantage of blasters hitting on the move means very little with the railgun's rapid fire mode.

I've seen Bob maybe twice since Red Star was doing PC. Does he mostly do ambush?

I had a gunny fitout with triple complex shield extenders, 7k base shield, 2.5k armor.
It was pretty cool, just that it doesn't survive against a blaster tank or dedicated AV.
