End game: EVE gate reopens, hostile Earth race invades New Eden, the four factions reluctantly bind together to repel the threat, resulting in Minmatar-Caldari space bomber-jet hybrids.

I've seen this picture come up at least once before and I've just thought about this. What if the title isn't referring to the endgame in dust, but instead it's the 'endgame' of that battle. That base in the distance looks pretty done for with all those jets and those explosions.
Just a thought.

I imagine that CCP wants the battlefield to be chaotic. That any number of oppositions are on the field. This is why mercs need to breathe and relax when it comes to certain things. The tanks are a problem now, but they won't be later on. Folks complain about the RR but the RR won't be the only thing they have to worry about. It's also why I don't fret too much about things because I know building blocks are just that. Building blocks. You can't see one layer of cake and say it isn't desirable because the cake isn't finished.
Even the video "Way of the Mercenary" shows their desired end game. Same as the test vids. Both of them show numerous tanks, Dropships, mercenaries running wild, explosions, on ground orbitals and such. I'm looking forward to when Dust get to that monumental plateau.
And the picture looks cool btw I believe in what you're saying. Though, I also believe that things should be balanced according to the way things are, not how they will be. DeadlyAztec11 is right. After all, everything's going to be rebalanced as new stuff comes out anyway and we can only get to the vision in the videos if enough players stick with it until it gets there. SoonTM only works for so long.

I'm not saying that they don't plan to add aerial support and large battlefields. I'm saying that dust's endgame is something beyond that. I hope to be assaulting stations or being able to spawn into a warzone that's been active for days someday for example.

Yea, he's got a point but I wasn't talking about balance or the state of the game. I was giving my perception of what is possibly what CCP want as a end game. That's two different things. If this thread was about balance, it would have been said. Let's have a conversation without always throwing "Dust is a broken mess" in every subject that has nothing to do with that.

Unlikely, too many players have seen dust as it is now and like things the way that they are where vehicles are a nuisance not an "of course there are things medium suits cant do" strategy (see "go play WoT if you want them!" threads).
I get the feeling that the player base is causing EVE and Dust to diverge, not converge, but this is possibly due to the only battles having meta narratives are now locked and have become a huge cash cow for 1% of players.
I remember when CCP were doing their talk circuit giving interviews they said things like "specialising into a specific role, like just being a transport pilot or vehicle gunner will be a very viable, fun and strategically useful role, it's not just about boots on the ground."
Now I laugh as once the uplinks are down a transport drop ship is a liability, not a benefit. I may be wrong but I heard with the current design we'll never have more than 16 a side, so huge sweeping battles where you are just one cog in a great machine and events will occur where you say "I was there" wont happen, the nearest thing will be "I was there when a bug meant Tanks could fly" which isn't without it's charm I must admit. |

Personally, I think they introduced vehicles too early. I think they should have got all the infantry gear in the game first, then worked on increasing the player count in matches, and only introduced vehicles when the battlfield was big enough for both infantry and vehicles to both play a meaningful role in the same match.
I'm all for tanks, lav's and dropships in game, but when I can run from one end of the battlefield to the other within a minute, they're not needed for transport, and when the only thing you can do when a tank's coming towards you is run away and hope you get into cover before they notice you, it just gets boring.
As to the original topic, I'm not sure Dust has an endgame, I think they'll find new ways to expand it for as long as the playerbase supports it.

As a 'we want to be here' endgame, that's exactly it. Vehicles. Vehicles bein main transportation, along with infantry needed when we hit the front door. As a 'this is what you'll be doing, vets.' I imagine a PC district that the Defenders built, setting up every defense, terraforming theterrain to be advantageous to them, an the offense spawning on an MCC, flying a fighter loaded with an uplink scout to break first defense, followed by a Mtac wielding some sort of Plasma Cannon Artillery, blasting away the Medium turret installations. Once inside the infantry must deal with Droideka-esque monstrosities, alongside the defending force. Meanwhile Mtac operator wipes the area so the Mav has a clear pickup point. Upon Core overload/data retrieval/whatever, they leave the complex to meet the Mav, only to be met by Gunships and Hav battalions(talking 30+ railtankers.)
Y'know, what we see in STAR WARS.

So vehicles go fight outside, while infrantry fights inside or get slaughetered by the awesome vehicle fights outside. I guess that's what they are testing now in ambush.

Caldari base (box-like architechture and notice those square cannons on the roof, railguns imo)
Bottom right corner explosion looks like a Gallente fighter(bottom row second from left) Flying ship in top right corner looks like a caracal
The smaller fighters on the top left corner look a lot like Mantis fighter bombers manufactured by the Caldari state
The coloring looks to be orange/ in general but they seem to be fighting in a volcanic planet so everything is going to look orange/red and let's not rule out the possibility of camouflage paint
The ship exploding in the background does not ring any bells but I say it looks Gallentean in design just for the smoothness of it's design
Also, the engine trails are red (like Minmatar ships) and not blue (like Caldari) but that might be just the artist keeping the coloring theme consistent
That's a damn nice picture regardless, reminds me about the fight for the Caldari Prime and the titan fall :)
I will show you fear in a handful of dust.
