So I've been waiting for this thing for....., well since I first heard it was coming, so to my fellow scouts:what uses have we?
Keep in mind what you can't do while cloaked:
No sniping
No equipment
Supposedly makes a sound while deactivating so knifing and shotty is out.
So what can we use it for, go.

Really pro scouts are already good at not being seen until they stick a knife in your neck. The cloak will allow them to move around more freely without being shot by someone. Normally the only time I see a scout is when they are stalking another player.
The cloak will help them stalk more effectively. |

I seriously hope that sprint is possible while cloaked.
Anyway: - Sprinting up to an HAV and planting remotes while they feel safe - Sprinting into a group of people and planting remotes - Flanking enemies. Shotgunning heavies, for example. - Sneaking up to an LAV and headshotting the driver - Hiding in a corner of an objective and using my superior passive scanning. Maybe even with range amplifiers - Tracking enemies on open terrain, running into their predicted path and laying REs around corners to really **** them off. - Tracking down snipers and shooting them in the head. I don't even need to care about flanking anymore - Secretly installing REs on LAVs while the driver is hacking something - Shooting plasma cannons at point blank into a room of people. Let's see if it's any use. - Spawn camping with shotgun. It's pretty much guaranteed that spawn killed players will respawn at the same point and try to take revenge. Revenge against an invisible guy. Crysis players might be dangerous in that situation, though, considering that they'll be used to spotting subtle ripples.
I really feel that "deactives when switching weapons" actually makes the cloak far more useful. Because now you can *very* quickly deactive the thing and instantly react. Press R2 and headshot a guy. |

The main reasons I can think of for using cloaks can be broken to three categories, in my opinion:
1. Travel With cloaks, you can safely traverse wide open areas with little concern about being spotted, especially by those pesky snipers. It also allows you to sneak up through places where otherwise you would be easily spotted and kill high-value targets
2. Escape Cloaks let you to escape a hairy situation a lot easier, letting you live another day to knife/shotgun/RE people
3. Confusion Sneak up on a group, kill a guy, cloak up and retreat, watch the panic rise. Rinse and repeat. Seriously, the amount of paranoia these cloaks will instill is going to be massive

Does the commando have an eq slot, by the way? Because C4 is the soul of a commando.
I wonder if there would be some way to give them additional strength for running solo, without making it a silly artificial bonus. |

For this I don't need a cloak at all, the only real use or cloaks is croosing an open space something no real scout should regulary do.
Sure beeing able to shoot a whle clip while beeing cloaked would be stupid but gettin the initial shot would ot be that op at all. With a dampened suit this is already easily possible. The same ist true for knifing even if we are allowed to charge our knife and hit once (the initial blow) that would barely be OP.
Now the funny part the cpm did not intevene by the introductin of the clearly highly OP new rifles or tanks but for cloaks they threw everything in they could to get this stuff in prenerfed...
Whats left is a piece of equipment with horrendous fiting requirements that only give a marginally bonus as it seems.
Well I guess we have to see how usefull cloaking will be but I fear i you could easily ake better use from that equipment slot |

Oh I admitt there wil be some situational uses for cloaks but thats a bit unsatisfiying as cloaks were meant to be the saviour of the scout suit. Currently I beleive the changes to the suit and it slot layou will save the scout way more than the cloak. IMHO the cloak will just be a terrible expensive piece of equipment for quite limited usages.
But I don't want to complain too much the suit changes are well worth waiting for 1.8 |

Here's the thing though. We have no clue or frame of reference on how the decloak noise is going to be if any. We'll just have to assume that the decloak noise is the same as the respawn noise which is audible but subtle enough to not notice it.

I'd rather hold my breath and judgement on the usefulness and viability of the cloaking device until we can actually use it, as there are still plenty of things that are not explained to us about its finer points.
But decloak sound or not, I would still be running it and figuring out ways to make it work with my fits.

Crysis 3 gave us slower movement with cloak, separate energy bars and unlimited sprint. Moving around the levels, grabbing ledges and shooting people was pure fun. I don't care about anything else.
I do agree about the cloak, though. The speed nerf was enough, the visibility thing was just ********. And the Jackal was pretty broken at the beginning, especially in Hunter mode. I ******* loved Hunter mode. Dust needs such creative modes. Maybe one where a bunch of pure proto players plays against a much larger horde of mlt/std players. |

I still want DUST cloaks changed to follow EVE cloaks.
A DUST equivalent of EVE's prototype cloak which could be (relatively) easily fit by any suit, but severally penalize speed, (run slower, no sprint, no jump), no equipment switching, no weapons fire, etc. Deactivation if someone comes to close. Basically nothing but slow movement.
A DUST equivalent of EVE's improved cloak, which would be the same as the proto but slightly less restrictive.
A DUST equivalent of EVE's CovOps clock, only fittable to a certain class of suits (Scouts or some new CovOps role) which would not penalize movement, allow sprinting, jumping, climbing ladders, etc. Potentially switch out to different equipment, closer to others without breaking cloak, etc. I like the idea of firing while cloaked and feel it could be done well with proper counters and a squishy CovOps role.
Here's my initial thread in F&I with my thoughts on the cloak. The cloak is just another way that DUST should be like EVE.

Hands down, flanks. I don't know the map name but the one where the point is underground with the Supply depot. So often it is people on the outside moving in as an assault wave to take the point. Imagine a Scout attacking from behind as the Assault force pushes in. Hell, even taking out Logistics to stop repairs and taking out spawn uplinks will utterly destroy that defensive position.
Sneaking into a position and causing huge panic is something I can see being very effective. The loudness of the decloak is hugely important. If it is easy enough to miss, like if someone is shooting or listening to their comms, shotguns and nova knives still work well. If nothing else, it is an excellent tool for getting outta Dodge. Kill a few enemies from where they don't notice you rather than charging at them. When they realize you are there and start running at you with vile intent, cloak and GTFO. |
