I'm personally going to go Minmatar and go half and half on speed/damage tanking. What route do you think will be the best?
As far as effectiveness, I see the armor tanked Galsentinel with a damage mod in the high slot being pretty beastly. With a 25% resistance to splash (grenades, MD's, Flaylocks, etc.), 15% resistance to rails (sniper, RR, forge, etc.), and a 10% resistance to projectiles (HMG, CR, SMG, etc.), the Galsentinel's armor takes reduced damage from every single damage source in the game.
The same can be said for the Calsentinel's shields, however the splash from a flux, even after the splash damage reduction, will still be significant enough to reduce even the sturdiest of shield defenses to almost 0. A basic flux (1200 base shield damage) will have it's damage reduced by 25% (300 is 25% of 1200), but it will still do 900 shield damage if the flux is right on top of the heavy (I am assuming there is damage drop-off towards the edges of the splash radius, as I have fluxed heavies NOW and not taken off all of their shields).
Therefore, I predict that the armor tanked Galsentinel with a damage mod in the high slot (1 high, 4 low) will be the best possible choice in 1.8 unless damage mods get overnerfed, in which case a brick tanked Galsentinel will be the way to go.

It really depends on how AA and bullet magnetism is changed in 1.8(if at all)
If we see reduced AA and bullet magnetism dropped completely, then speed ranking will actually be viable as it was in pre 1.4 days.
If it stays the same, Amarr heavy will be best followed by Gallente, Caldari and Minmatar in that order.

I think teamwork will be OP in 1.8.
With the TTK increasing, and cloaking, and dmg mods possibly being split into shields or armor. We, as infantry, will have to make choices on who we think we can kill and which engagements are in our favor to win. Having a minmatar assault with a CR (assuming prof affects armor only) and 2x dmg mods that burn armor, and you see a Cal heavy coming your way, either pray you have fluxes or turn around, run, and find the nearest Gal heavy to burn.
I dunno, maybe I'm being too optimistic, but I am picturing a game where picking and choosing favorable match-ups will be much more important come 1.8. That the increased TTK will affect weapon dmg profiles to the point that using the guy's strengths next to you will matter significantly and squad composition will become a determing factor for winning. |

Depends on the weapon.
Caldari #1 for FG. Dat 3rd dmg mod doe
Or a speed tanked minmatar heavy? Could be very troublesome. |

Caldari will be the best FGer though. No question.

AA is too good for speed tanks to really come into their own.
as for shield/armor I don't really see much change.

I'm going stealth tanking usually backed by shield and sometimes with a touch of armor. Caldari Scout and Gallente Logistics will be priority on my hit list as they'll ruin it for me. In which case I'll resort to dirty street tactics and as much damage as I can dish out or just switch to my Python and burn you all until the redline rail tanks shoot me down.
In other words, business as usual plus cloaking when possible.

Personally going for Armor and Reps for a mobile armor suit.
I do think that speed/damage will make the major come back because people will want TTK to be low despite everyone QQing about raising it.

I haven't crunched the numbers, but if the heavies mirror the other classes, the minmatar should still be able to shield/speed tank most effectively. I dunno though, on paper it looks pretty underwhelming. Will be interesting as you stated, to see what the 'ninja' buffs are to AA, hit detection, strafing speeds, etc.... |

You forgot scan/dampening tanked.
Ehp values hardly make a difference between suits thanks to the low ttk (bar heavy suit due to their massive hp pools). Usually whoever gets the first shots off win or at least have a strong advantage. I think, at least in CQB, scouts will have a massive advantage thanks to the dampening buffs, scanner nerfs, and the new Cal scan precision bonus.

I too yearn for the removal of the stupid AA mechanic and its ridiculous bullet magnetism.
The Caldari heavy may be great with a forge and able to operate pretty well solo, but with no shield rep tools it wont last worth crap VS logi supported Gall and Amarr heavies.
Why can we not have a shield repair tool?
Or CCP give us the Caldari logi LAV back and then I can use the cars built in shield repair to good use on a Caldari Sent. |

I'm thinking mega low HP on my two scouts , ewar mods, an cloaks, although it all depends on if we get suit respecs, full respecs, or w/e they do either way I have both proto scouts now an a adv min LOGI , so if it's just suits than I might just get the gal, an min an save the rest, but if it's full respec I'm running bpo df scout untill is see that the super nerfs stop then I ll spend.
I predict a lot of sent heavies with RR tbh.

Gallente Sentinel will be susceptible to the Shotgun (Hybrid-Blaster) damage, so watch out for Shotgun Scouts. But yes, I think Gallente will probably be the best Brick tank.
Caldari Heavy shield regeneration delay is reduced to only 1 second if the shield is fully depleted. I expect this is designed to compensate for Flux Grenades.
Amarr will be fairly good as a Brick tank as well, but I will be running Amarr as a speed tank due to Amarr having the best stamina and a good number of Low Slots.
I have my doubts about the Minmatar Standard suit with only 1 Low slot, but I think Minmatar will be good at Advanced and Proto.

Speed + Damage was viable in the past but TTK ruined it.
That Gallente Sentinel will only have a 5% bonus because of the 10% bonus to armour, the rail rifle will still chew it to shreds from medium distance anyway.
