So I always find it boring as hell reading or hearing people talk about where they want to put their SP and why and all of that nonsense.
That being said, I am actually at a crossroads at 7.6mil SP. I have 3 in pretty much every important core skill book except for the one that breeds the KinKat which is only 2 and rep is only 1.
Basically, Do I continue to go into things like system hack, electronics, engineering, profile dampening, etc. for the % bonus to base stats? Or do I pursue things like heavy suits or scout suits or new weapons?
In your experience, where did you wish you put points in at some point? I hear a mix of "get 5 proficiency with your best weapon" (which I'm at 3 in proficiency for RR for the 9% damage bonus), "Go heavy so you can you use forge", and "Get your CPU, PG, and Dampening at 5 first.
Appreciate the feedback. |

ill say to start speccing into the suit you want. but just know that if speccing scout, youll need all those biotics or if speccing heavy, youll obviously need armor. (or kincats, because speed heavies are pretty badass.)
think about what you want to spec into, then base your build around that suit.

Appreciate the feedback. With only 7.6 mil SP I would definitely advise you don't take any skill to level 5 except it if is to unlock something. The reason being is Level 4 to Level 5 is the same amount of SP as Level 0 to Level 4, so you are doubling your SP investment for only marginal gains.
Also I would have to ask what suit you really want to specialize first. You mention both heavy and scouts suits, but if you go heavy suit for example skills like profile dampening, scan amplification, and precision enhancement don't really do anything for you and kinetic catalyzation is near pointless since the skill itself only provides a bonus to kin cat modules which you really shoudn't use on a heavy unless you're just trying to be super unique and niche.
As for Electronics and Engineering, only level those up as you need them, for many fits you may realize you don't need them all the way to 5 each.
So here's what I say, if you're not to level 3 in your suit specialization yet do that. Then make sure your armor upgrades and shield upgrades are at 4. Then work on getting some proto level modules and upgrading Electronics/Engineering as needed. Then take your weapon proficiency from 3 to 4. Then grab a few levels in Systems Hacking. Then get your proto suit.

Just focus on getting a weapon to a decent level (if you havent already) then a dropsuit, get that to adv or pro level. once this is done focus on the rest of the core skills, engineering, electronics, shield and armour upgrades skill etc etc. should be done by 16 million if you just focus on those skills. |

No matter your build or suit, shield upgrades and armor upgrades to lvl 5 is the best investment you can make. Deciding on your suit can wait if you are unsure, but these 2 skills will increase your base HP by 5% per level regardless of what you eventually choose. So at lvl 5 in both, you have 25% more base shields and base armor. The higher the base stat is on your suit, the higher this skill will bump it. Even for scouts these skills are vital as every HP you can get without having to add a module means a LOT.

This is horrible advice. Dampening and Hacking is one of the skills you should level up once your basics are ok.
Choose your most used weapon, take it to advanced level if you haven't already and equip your dropsuit (advanced is good) with the best modules you have access to. If your CPU/PG doesn't exceed, good. If it does. Well -> Electronics/Engineering.
Also Shields and Armor plates. The corresponding skills give you bonuses to shield/armor even if you don't equip your best modules.

Training Dropsuit Electronics from 4 to 5 allowed me to upgrade one module from basic to enhanced on Minmatar Scout suits. I'm currently training Dropsuit Engineering to 5 because some fits I've been trying are short just 1 PG. New Eden has always been about compounding very small percentage increases to find that edge over your enemy. Considering I have a light weapon, a sidearm, grenades and explosives on my Scout I'm also going to train the three weapon skills that reduce CPU usage to 5. When I'm done I'll have enough additional CPU to raise one module or weapon to complex/prototype. I was also able to update each of my Logistics suits to squeeze on something just a little better.
I'd modify Fletcher's advice to be "DON'T waste it on Engineering and Electronics past 3 until you have a solid advanced level suit and fitting." Once you have all your core skills to 3 taking them to 4 or 5 is boring. But, you do gain an edge from them. Just be sure to bring all relevant skills up together in a balanced way.

Are you a competitive person? Do you hate being killed by people that you know are worse players than you? Skill those basic skills. You'll need them.
Do you easily get bored with things? Do you get enjoyment out of deploying 6 completely different fittings in the same match? Spec into ALL the things! Personally, I would've left the game while waiting to get to electronics, engineering, armor upgrades, shield recharging, hacking, etc. to lvl 5. Every couple of weeks I need to try a different style of play to stay entertained. But that's just me. |

Yep, I get bored and mix things up.
I'm at 33 mil SP and just finishing Electronics and Engineering to 5 because I trained into Logistics, Scout, Dropships with a side of sniper, AV and all light weapons and sidearms. I periodically rebuild all my fittings and throw in some that are very different just to keep things interesting.
The great thing about core skills is that they help all those different fits. I try to train one skill that unlocks something and then one that is boring but improves my core just to avoid going crazy while waiting on core skills.

I wouldn't put anything to 5, even the 5% Armor and 5% Shield Skills. It is same price to get a skill from 1-4 as it is to get it from 4 to 5. This means that by not getting a skill to 5, you can get another skill of the same multiplier to 4. In the case of the Armor and Shield Skills, that it 2 skills that you can get to advanced just by not having an extra 5% armor and shields. Only put as much points into Engineering and Electronics (PG and CPU skills) as you need. I say don't go Prototype anything. Getting something to Advanced is decent enough, though for weapons you will likely want more levels so you can grab Sharpshooting and the like.
The advantage with getting the basic skills (Armor, Shield, Dampening) is that regardless of what you decide to do, they will be useful. If you have not decided what you want to do, I say put them there but do it slowly and evenly.
Good luck and I hope you are happy with your final decisions! |

1 I emphasize leveling dampening and hacking because they make it so much bearable out there with the constant barrage of scans and feeling vulnerable as you hack the objective, or worse a CRU... Not having complex armor plates/shield extenders will make him wary not a wannabe rambo

I wouldn't say the SP would be wasted in fitting skills, but they should be skilled up as needed in order to fit items.

In a game of constant nerfs and buffs, the best advice is to spec into whatever you have fun doing. Don't chase whatever is OP right now, because a month from now, there's a good chance it won't be.
IE: You want to be a stealthy scout, batman-ing around the map hacking points? Then do that. Or if you'd rather be a heavy gunning people down on the front line? Then do that.

At 7.6 mil SP, don't even consider engineering/electronics to 5 (maybe not even 4) for another 5-10 mil or so.
Get shield extenders to 5, that's the only type of extender worth crap, you get 2x the HP for less than 2x the fitting costs.
Speed helps everyone, get that to 5, dampening and such to 5 only if you are a scout.
Weapon upgrades to 5 for complex dmg mods, the only ones that are worth it, just like shields.
Don't get ANYTHING else in that tree to 5 until you have at least triple your current SP, it's just not worth it to go past level 4.
Otherwise, get a couple weapons to proto for variety and nerf-hammer insurance. Prof 3 is fine on your core weapons, no need to go to 5 yet unless you use just the one weapon 95% of the time.

There's no clear cut thing to spec if you haven't decided on a role/suit yet. Otherwise you're aimlessly putting SP into places where it might be wasted.
1.) Pick a role/suit/race. 2.) Pick a weapon. (looks like you use the RR) 3.) Spec basic dropsuit to advanced level. (3) 4.) Spec weapon to advanced level. (4 for assault variant) 5.) Spec Hand Held Weapon upgrades to level 3. (level 5 when capable) 6.) Spec Shield/Armor to level 3 (level 5 when capable) 7.) Spec Armor Plates/Shield Extenders to level 3. (level 5 when capable) 8.) Spec Engineering/Electronics/Core to level 2-3. (level as needed) 9.) Spec Profile Dampening if needed/wanted. 10.)
10.a) If Logistics suit (support logi) A.) Level Logistic Suit to level 1-3. B.) Pick 3 main equipment and spec to level 3 ASAP. C.) Level Engineering/Electronics/Core as needed. D.) Level Shield/Armor to level 5. E.) Level Armor Plates/Shield Extenders to level 5. F.) Level 3 equipment to level 5. G.) Save SP for proto suit. H.) Level all equipment to level 5. I.) Level weapon to level 5.
10.b) If Assault suit A.) Level Assault Suit to level 1-3. B.) Level Engineering/Electronics/Core as needed. C.) Level Shield/Armor to level 5. D.) Level Armor Plates/Shield Extenders to level 5. E.) Level your weapon to level 5. F.) Level Hand Held Upgrades to level 5. G.) Save SP for proto suit. H.)Optional; Pick an equipment and level to 3.

10.d) If Scout... Seek advice elsewhere.
11.) Finish Electronic/Engineering/Core to level 5. 12.) Add Proficiency to weapon. 13.) Level Hacking. 14.) Level Biotics. 15.) Do whatever you want. I'm sure I missed something. |

Thanks, appreciate it. So I don't run scout so having 5 in dampening is likely useless although I have been "dabbling". I use LP for damage mods and complex shields often so I know what you mean there.
I didn't think about doing more weapons for nerf insurance. I do snipe, AR, RR, and Scrambler Pisol. Maybe investing in one more to 3 isn't a bad idea. |

Thanks for all of the advice so what I think I am going to do is:
1) Move to 3 with a new weapon for just a bit more variety and I'm thinking the mass driver right now.
2) stick it out with the logi path for now and not go into another suit
3) Get shields and armor to 4 as it is at 3 now
4) Although it wasn't mentioned, I am going to get rep tool to 3 as it is at 1
5) Although it wasn't mentioned I am at 2 with grenades so I'm going to move to 3
6) Move to 3 in RE as well, although this was not mentioned
7) Then start moving toward 4 in electronics and engineering
8) then 5 in dampening and hacking
After that much, I will begin looking into Heavy Suits and running with a forge for better AV. Followed by moving to scout fits and exploring that path more.
Not a vehicle person. So staying out of that path for a while.
I have no issue with grinding out LP for proto equivelents so being 3 is typically sufficient. Not to mention I got drunk one night and bought 200k of Aurum. I can afford my share of proto stuff.
I do have my two weapons of choice where I want them in that the RR (Mid/Long Range) is at 5 (proto) and 3 proficiency and 3 at reload (I think that will suffice). I also have AR (Short/Mid range) at 5 (proto) and 2 proficiency. I have sniper at 3, Scrambler pistol at 1, SMG at 1, combat rifle at 1, and Scrambler Rifle at 1. I have 3 for Min Logi. obviously I wanted to explore some weapons.
Again, I really appreciate everyones advice, it's definitely helped me prioritize and I didn't realize that level 5 costs as much as moving level 1 to 4. It makes more sense to goto 4 where base bonuses matter. |

Pretty much that. Anyone saying don't skill a core skill beyond x should be regarded as bad advice/ a troll post.
