variety and the ability to change to any and every situation is what wins fights, or at the very least makes the specialised pay heavily.
even though i'm a logi i still skill into as much alternate roles as possible to allow me to switch out when i'm not needed.at this point in time there is not a single role i'm unable to do at, atleast adv level.
so when you snipe me expect to be sniped back, if you kill me in a tank expect a forge gunner or RE's. kill my buddies and i will logi the **** out of them. lone wolf my logi and i will come back in one of my many assaults/heavies for revenge and much much more. there is nothing you can throw at me that i can't throw back.

Other than officer weapons, there is not a single weapon in this game that I haven't used yet...

Specializing is for people who play PC where your side doesn't want someone who is a half assed sniper, logi, whatever they want someone who is fully skilled into the role.
Having a little skill in many things may be better for pub matches, but I would hardly say that "specializing is for losers" its for people more concerned about end game rather than ISK grinding pub matches or FW.
Most tankers are like sand people. They frighten easily, but will quickly return...and in greater numbers.

Hell yeah! I had a fit for every situation, then I got bored and deleted all of them to make pure minmatar ones for a while.
Starting to move back to the "jack of all trades" thing, but I'm going to wait until next build.

Yep, have 5 proto level weapons. It's a shame CCP is so intent on forcing you in specific roles with the new bonus's. This is war adaptability should be the name of the game. Not I have to do this because that's what some arbitrary bonus says I have to do.

Sorry,but I have a real world job and just don't have the time to cap out every single week,and that's not a knock on anyone that's unemployed and does have the time to do that,but I'm just saying.
Also,as far as I'm concerned,CCP has failed at the MMO aspects of this game for exactly the reason of this thread.This is currently the only MMO,albeit the only MMO that's also a shooter,that doesn't lock you into a specific role per character.Unfortunately,due to the dismal player count,per match and in total,it would be a total deathwish if CCP had lock you into specific roles.
If there were say 20k~30k players online at any given time and we had at the very least 32v32,then I think the dynamics of this game would be totally different from anything we've ever seen from this game. |

And I believe that the Minmatar Commando will move as fast as an Amarr Assault frame.
We all know they will be FoTM.
But I'll have all of the Matari Frames to lvl. 5 anyways. A Commando FoTM being nerfed won't hit me nearly as hard.

i agree... to a certain extent, you need to be on the same playing field as those people though. the thing is, if the battle field is already filled with orginized rolls that know how to support each other and vary in their support then its hard to beat them no matter what. especially if all of them are efficient skill and sp wise, its better to have ten dif rolls with higl exp rather then ten guys who can do anything just not that well....
tactics>skill points any day.
For the most part i totally agree, the first things i did was skill into my assault for the overall and my sniper for the long distance, eventually i realised that i needed heavy a.v. and a light speed suit also. This gave me a lot of versitility on the battlefield but left me wishing the things i had were better. Now i find that i need to skill into 4 different areas then one, needing more sp to be better in an all around fight....
At the end i decided to be a Logi to fit my "all around" desires and i realised that im pretty good at it. But i ALWAYS do my best when i stick to my roll, the more i branch out in a fight the less i get accomplished by the end of the match.
It is kinda fun to play what i'm best at but still be able counter snipe, tank, scout, and fly all in one game though 
(not so much scout lol spent a few hours making a mess o that)

Being a logi is all about battlefield facilitation, you need to be able to perform many roles all at the drop of a hat. This is how I have viewed it from the start.

If the player count ever increases drastically in the future then specialization would be more important, but I agree that right now with only 15 other people on your team it is important to fill multiple roles.

I've been running this for some time. In my current Callogi suit I can fill basically every role except long distance sniping (although I really could do that if I had to with my gunlogi) and a stealth/infiltration approach. This person is tired of it and all the SP sink to go along with it.

I'm not specialized but the only suits I will be specializing in is my Minmatar Scout and Minmatar Assault. My Assault is Lvl 4 and my Scout is Lvl 3. Right now I'm more focused on my scout and core. After Engineering/Electronics and Core is at 5 I'll focus on precision(lvl 3), damp(lvl 3) and range(lvl 4). Then the inside of shield and armor. Just 2 more lvls and 1 more for shield reg. |

After I get me proto knives, cause overkill is underrated. :D

Its a progressive process.
You start the game, unsure what to do, spec into stuff unknowingly
you start to get a feel for the game so specialise in what works for you to get competitive quicker
Once you start holding your own you branch out into new roles/skills

I specced into Proto Minja, ADV Gallinja, proto Scram Rifle (as someone described it, a shotgun, TAR, and Sniper Rifle rolled into one), and ADV of every other weapon in game. Oh yeah, Proto Combat Rifle.
The biggest threat to my scout is everything.

I rather be damn good at something for a specific purporse (scout).
I do have 10 diff. scout suits to choose from, all doing diff. roles.
